XIII - The Conspiracy

Postby Haistfu » Thu Feb 19, 2009 9:43 am UTC

The whole thing seemed... elementary, to me. The revelations brought little sensation of revelation to me. Nothing stunned or amazed me, which lead me to think the movie was more of an action flick. I liked how badass XIII was. Aside from that... I dunno. Just seemed lackluster.

A wikipedia page discussing the comic with links to the movie, TV, and video game based on the license.

Is it a TV series based on the XIII comics? The comics are good, I would say.

Edit: Minimal research pointed me to a tv series, so thank you for the link. I am generally skeptical about movie adaptations of books, anyway.

I'm referring to a movie. Minimal research does show it was based on a graphic novel, however.

If you see the movie you should post your review.

The video game was actually pretty good for its time. It was a mission-based FPS with some really cool cel shading and comic-book style storytelling--cut scenes were told in panels, and even during gameplay you'd see things like written-out special effects. Other than the presentation it wasn't terribly original but it was pretty fun, especially the multiplayer mode.

Probably. I mean, it's a bit dated now, since it's a PS2 game, but the nice thing about stylized graphics is that they age well. I'd say give it a shot.

Ack, PS2. I hocked my playstation a while back for new-fangled-system monies. If only it was on N64 -- I still have one of those

If you have an XBOX or XBOX 360, you can play it. If your local gamestop (or equivalent) has it in stock, it'll be very cheap; I bought it two years ago for $4. Definitely worth your time.

The TV version, not so much.

*sigh*

It's a XBox, PS2, PC game. Pick a system. If you have one of those, you can play it.

When it was originally mentioned it was stated to be for PS2. You dont need to baby-feed.

I played through XIII a few years ago - it was decent enough, but without its unique style (when you get a headshot, a three-panel comic close-up sequence of their death pops up at the top of the screen) it wouldn't have had anywhere near as much appeal. I played the PS2 version, and the auto-aim was very generous, so no doubt it would be better with the Xbox's superior analogue sticks or a PC mouse. As PS2 FPSs go, it was probably worse than the Timesplitters series and Cold Winter, but better than Killzone.

It's also fun to note that the FPSs XIII, Perfect Dark and No-One Lives Forever all feature characters called Carrington. In the case of XIII he's voiced by William Shatner.
