Hey guys, this user likes The Wire! Let's disregard everything he ever posts on this forum, and track down his other forum identities so we can disregard what he posts on those too!

The Wire is basically the finest television show of the last decade, if not ever, and I will use a nail-gun to create and then hide the corpses of anybody who tries to give me shit for saying so.

You would have come in handy last night, I could've used a nailgun in my defense of this show.

Did you show them footage of Omar? Cause that's pretty much all that should be needed, imo.

Apparently it's too similar to other cop shows, and doesn't do anything original.

The Wire is awesome. That said, I must now admit that I've only seen 6 episodes. Because in the rare moments I get to watch telly, I use it for escapist relaxation. The Wire is just too damn smart to clear server upgrades and finance classes out of my brain, and so it waits for a day when I have the time and concentration to watch something intelligent for enjoyment's sake.

The Wire has the richest characterisation of any TV series I've ever seen. I currently have my closest friends tearing through all five seasons.

My dad, a cop here in the Netherlands, basically says this show is truth. From the banter through the idiocy (on both sides) to the stifling bureaucracy. Except for that last season maybe, that got a little outrageous.
That combined with the awesomely rich characters makes for a series that I will definately revisit in the future.

Remind me to write angry letters to dutch tv stations.... it's never been broadcast here... but there are dvd's available now.

I'm halfway through season 2 and I love this show. I've heard people say that it's depressing, but they are just wusses who can't handle the truth.

In the US this would be true. But for some unfathomable reason, many countries have not had The Wire shown on their channels. I'm still trying to push people into watching The Wire here.

Frustratingly, they are well into the 2nd series on BBC2 here - and I only noticed it in the TV guide yesterday.

That's right, folks. Critically acclaimed, Best Series Ever TM, and it was so poorly advertised they managed to show the entire first series and a half without it registering on my consciousness in the slightest.

(Side note: BBC2 also did this with the 2nd series of Heroes, by showing the first three episodes at 11:45pm on Tuesdays with absolutely no fanfare. I since completely lost interest due to missing a large chunk of plot, and am now something like 5 entire box sets behind the rest of the globe...Grr.)

They've been showing it since the end of March, so I think they're on the 5th and last series now (unless they're repeating).

I'm not watching/recording it since I have the box set. I have yet to start the third series, and I'm waiting for a weekend where I don't have anything else to do. I can't just watch one or two episodes a day, you see.

So, this show generates a bit of controversy?
I haven't read about it because I want to watch it: My english teacher recommended it because it's being played from the beginning on ABC2 in australia from tuesday on, he's a fan of detective fiction and noir, etc etc.

I too fail to understand why this would be a controversial topic, everyone who has ever watched the wire absolutely loves it. Yes it takes a few episodes to get into. It's worth it.

True fact: An alumnus of my high school (Dennis Lehane), who dedicated his first book to the Jesuit priest who baptized me (and basically taught him how to write) was on the writing staff from Season 3 on. He's the primary author for "Dead Soldiers" (Season 3 ep 3), "Refugees" (Season 4 ep 4), and "Clarifications" (Season 5 ep 8). The entire show is excellent, but I think his episodes in particular are gems (though I'm biased)

Huh, I feel sad that I have apparently missed out on a television phenomenon. 9.7/10 on IMDB with tons of ratings, and multiple sources saying it's the best television show of (basically) all time. In my defense, I never watch tv so I miss out on trailers. I rely on people with good taste and broader interests to refer things to me, and nobody I know has ever mentioned this show!

I'm going to get it now.

ok, I watched season 1 again. I think this show ruined every other court drama and crime procedual shows for me...

by wiki, it'll also ruin political drama, teen drama, and mafia drama in the subsequent seasons.

but i love those genres...

Craziness. Season 3 was great. My favorite season is probably a tie between 4 and 1, but all the rest were still fantastic.
