WHAT MOVIE IS THAT?!

Postby ChooChoo » Thu Aug 16, 2007 5:11 am UTC

So I went to go see Transformers today with a friend.

Pretty good movie, despite the excess of one-liners.

BUT.

I saw a preview for some movie.

It began with, like, a home-video-like scene of some goodbye party for some guy.

And then the ground shook, and everybody was like, what was that?

And they go outside and they're like, oh my god! Look at that!

And there's flaming stuff shooting everywhere from a point in the city.

So they go outside, and they're like, we're gonna die, etc.

And then the preview's over.

What movie is this?

My friend and I were thinking Godzilla, but we're not quite sure.

For the TENTH TIME...

Cloverfield

"Cloverfield" is the reported code name of an upcoming science fiction film produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard. First publicized in advance screenings of Transformers, the secret project is slated for a January 18, 2008 release. Paramount is carrying out a viral marketing campaign to promote the film.

Before details of the film were released, the media reported numerous possibilities about what the film would be about. USA Today reported the possibilities of the film being based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, a live-action adaptation of Voltron, a new film about Godzilla, or a spin-off of the TV show Lost.[6] The Star Ledger also reported the possibility of the film being based on Lovecraft lore or Godzilla.[7] The Guardian also reported the possibility of a Lost spin-off,[8] while Time Out reported that the film was about an alien called The Parasite.[9] IGN also backed the possibility of the same premise, with the film titled The Parasite.[10] However, Entertainment Weekly reported that the film would not be about a parasite or a colossal Asian robot such as Voltron.[2] One report asserts that the film will not be "a sequel or a remake" of any previous motion picture.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but it's not particularly easy to search for, considering the name is the thing I lack.

Thanks for the help though.

You are new, I apologize. We've had thread after thread every week, everytime someone sees Transformers. :)

Heh, I could understand that. Didn't know it was confined to just Transformers. Knowing that I could understand seeing multiple threads about this.

Well, like I said, I didn't know the trailer was limited to Transformers.

I got my answer, anyway, so there's really no need to be an asshole about it, eh?

Well, Cthulhu DOES smash, and a Cthulhu movie would probably be a smash. Viral campaigns worked and subsequently were stupid as of Serenity, and I have every intention to find out what this movie is an NOT see it, because I'm a protesting idiot.

Ok, "cloverfield" or "Slusho"(another working title) is gonna be about a brand new monster, JJ Abrams briefly discussed it at Comic Con, so lets all drop the whole Cthulhu thing(Even if it was about Cthulhu, the elder gods prefer to wait and drive people mad rather than go on smash happy fests)

Personally, i had been hoping it was a live action movie about the "Day of Lavos."
Continuity? None. Awesomeness? 1,000,000,000,000.4

Saw this thread earlier today... and my brother in law just happened to download the trailer for it when I got home from work (he's visiting a few days). Quite the coincidence. Anyway, I thought the trailer looked pretty cool. Looking forward to that.

There's a wiki on it - how cute. I just hope the Slusho history is deliberately dumbed down - because what I would infer from it sounds like a rather crappy movie. I want to be scared, goddamit!:D

On a side-note, the slusho-wiki seems to miss the bloop reference. I will be extremely pleased if the movie is somehow connected with the bloop, because it's one of the creepier things I came across recently:)

Pretty cool, xkcdish, when I was little (9?) I saw Office Space, and I loved it, and my family hated it,-no- well didn't like it as much as me, and I never knew the name so couldn't watch it again, then after joining xkcd I found it again, I was like holy shit is that that movie! I've watched it again, its so awesome 'specially when they smash that piece of machinery.

So that's what movie this is! I saw a preview of this at camp, over someone's shoulder. Where the Statue of Liberty's head falls off! Yeah!

EDIT: Wait a minute... I saw this at camp before transformers came out. And the guy was watching it in iMovie. He was a college student. Does this mean what I think it might mean?

I saw a movie as a kid on TV

A bunch of kids had to break into this compund to rescue their dog. I think there were lots of dogs being locked up, by some high powered, politically involved, evil people.

I really liked it, and it was my first experience with motion detection lasers, like your average diamond thieving movie has.

The Google or the IMDB do nothing.

The closest thing I could come up with is either Benji or Bingo.

I think the Voltron thing started because people mishead "It's alive, it's huge!" as "It's a lion, it's huge!"

Also, when watching it again, the party seems kinda cheesy. Like how they all say "he's like my main dude" and how all the girls at the party look like models. Unless that's what New York is actually like.

Well...

I'm not entirely sure about New York itself, but having had the misfortune to be involuntarily at a frat party at my school (more like the frat party moved onto my floor and made me very angry), I will say that rich, stupid prep boys tend to attract pretty but brain-dead girls.

Seriously, the party mentioned was exactly like the party in the movie, except all the people were a LOT more drunk and stupid. Also, they were on -my- hall, which was not where they were supposed to be, -my- hall was NOT THE GODDAMN FRAT HALL YOU JERKS [/rant]
