Best Album Covers

Postby crazyjimbo » Thu Aug 23, 2007 9:11 pm UTC

Ok, just to add confusion with the threads Best Album Closers and Interesting Covers, what are you favourite album covers?

I'll open with Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. That cover has kept me entertained for hours (minutes) seeing how many people I recognise. I spot something new every time I look.

My favorites have always been King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King (as seen in my avatar <-- )and Ween's Chocolate and Cheese. A couple others are Meet the Beatles and the Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik.

It is by a tatoo artist named Tim Biedron

Funny story, I spent about 15 minutes trying to google his name, and then I realized I have the actual CD cover hanging in my cubicle. I felt kind of dumb.

I like classical music alot, but the covers are super-standardized, so I became very surprised when searching the classical-section at a store to see this:

Has been my favorite cover since then

Aren't there laws against that sort of thing?

Does anyone know where the cover art to hail to the thief comes from/is by? I saw a book in a shop window in London yesterday with a very similar cover and got curious.

I love collecting album art almost as much as listening to the music itself. Which I guess makes me lame. I adore the cover to Think Tank by Blur. To me Banksy is definitely the most accessible modern artist since Warhol.

Pink Floyd do have some great album covers, such as Echoes:

These aren't necessarily 'the best' as much as they are personal favourites...

I'm personally partial towards wordless covers - thus, Abbey Road, The Dark Side of the Moon, etc. Also, Born to Run has a minimalism that I love.
