Good mashups?

Postby ThanatosDrive » Sun Aug 26, 2007 4:45 pm UTC

Yeah, mashups. So far I've only found ONE person who makes mashups the way I like. And here he is: Norwegian Recycling.

http://youtube.com/profile_videos?user=cappapie
My favorites:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3JKKl95Ttrc
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FeYSkxQxcRM
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hgf0HOfUSGM
Actually they're all favorites.

So what are your favorite mashups?
Oh, and props for youtube links, simply because I'm lazy.

Danger Mouse's Grey Album really is awesome.

Girl Talk's Night Ripper is awesome too. I'm sure I'd like the rest of his stuff too, but I haven't heard any of it.

My friend has one that is The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony with some rap dude's Brush Your Shoulders Off (or something). It sounds really cool, but I have no idea what the official title is or anything.

Okay so that may or may not be useful. <.<

oh, it should also be noted:

a perfect circle - diary of a lovesong is one of the greatest songs, ever. they performed this live a few times a number of years ago. it's ozzy osbourne - diary of a madman mixed with the cure - love song.

no good official studio version eixts, just crappy bootlegs. the best version is about 9 minutes long, and was recorded on 7/10/2000, in amsterdam.

wow, the Eminem/FFVII one is awesome!

I came across one the other day by Jonathan Coulton that's a mahsup of Chicago's '25 or 6 to 4' and The Beatles' 'When I'm 64'. It is appropriately titled 'When I'm 25 or 64'

Franzie Boys Ep (Franz Ferdinand vs Beastie Boys) By Mcsleazy is very good.

I also rather like Team 9's stuff, Lionel Vinyl and Aggro 1 - Bloc Party vs Pussycat Dolls.

If your looking for that sort of thing Get Your Bootleg On is the place to go.

I never really liked Girl Talk. I think he's soulless and one of the horsemen of the apocalypse.

That being said, there are a lot of good mashup tracks out there --

party ben does a remix of tegan & sara walking with a ghost over a mylo track, it's on his website

go home productions does a lot of in-tune mashups, a lot of them are cringeworthy but he puts christina aguilera "what a girl wants" over vu's "rock & roll", also avail on their site

a lot of the early 2 many djs CDs are good

blu jemz & roger yamaha : second cousins rush CD

spankrock : voila CD

so many ppl love the first hollertronix cd that its annoying but there are inspired mixes on that one too

gray album in inarguably brilliant. There's also--well it's not quite a mashup artist, but ever heard of Girl Talk? Uses all kinds of samples from all kinds of songs and raps over it. Good stuff. Newest album used the beat on In Rainbows' 15 Step... And I know one of them used the guitar line from Pixies' Where is My Mind... that sort of thing.
uhhhh fuck.

I really haven't heard very many mashups. I've always wanted to hear the Grey Album, I keep hearing good things about it.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Linkin Park and Jay-Z's Collision Course, probably the most successful mashup album in the last couple of years, if not ever.

I don't mind this mash-up. It's a mix of Paramore's Crushcrushcrush and Linkin Park's Faint. I only listen to a few songs from each band, but this mix is definitely my favourite. The contrast in vocals just makes it great, and the riffs/drums complement each other really well.

The Kleptones make the best mashups I've ever heard, and do it with style. They perform live, fer chrissake. Seriously, that looks like a hell of fun show. The Underground Hand that Buttoned the Widow, in addition to being the happiest video to ever feature the vocal stylings of Trent Reznor, is featured on their 24 Hours album, which is free for download. Go listen. You will not be dissapointed. And remember that show from the first link? You can download that too. They also have an entire album of them rapping over Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. This is some classy shit, people.

There's a Jay-Z/Weezer mashup album (the Black & Blue Album) that has a really good "Surf Wax America"/"Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and, as a bonus track, my all-time favourite mashup "Yeah!"/"Island in the Sun."
I also enjoy Party Ben's "Every Breath You Take"/"Chasing Cars," as it takes two fairly bland, overplayed songs and makes them listenable again.
I have nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.
And some old pictures.
