Here's Travis' myspace url. I quite love that band. One of my favorites is "big chair", from "the boy with no name".

Christine Fellows is a woman from Winnipeg who I've included on maybe 7-10 mixtapes over the past few years, and not once has the recipient not then gone and sought out more of her music. For what it's worth.

I recommend Al Stewart. Some of you might know him for Year of the cat, nice pop song from the late seventies.

I recommend him because he's not famous enough. I mean, a folk singer whose primary interrest is history, and who write songs about the past american presidents such as Warren Gamaliel Harding or WIlliam McKinley, definitively deserves more recognition.

I'm going to agree that everyone should listen to 65daysofstatic and Fugazi, but my own suggestion is that everyone gets the Refused album The Shape Of Punk To Come. Musical excellence.

Haven't read through all 11 pages (on threads w/ 5 or more pages I read the first and last, then post), but I have to recommend E.S. Posthumous. You may recognize their work from the NFL on CBS theme, also known as "Posthumous Zone".

All of the tracks on their first album stream freely on their website.

Nevermore, a progressive thrash metal band with some death, groove, and speed metal thrown in. Their songs range from thrashing shred-fests to very somber songs with heavy acoustic use. The lyrics are deep and intelligent, and the vocalist, while he takes getting used to for some, is arguably the best in the genre.

Latch Key Kid

It's very uplifting music, with a hint of "California Sun/Surf", so to say. It's hard to listen to everyday, but once in a while it hits the spot perfectly.

Highly unknown, so the best thing I can link to is the iTunes Store.

Anyway, if you have a time, listen to Fountain of Youth, Coming Home Soon, and I Gotta Move.

Rademacher, Fresno indie rock band. If you're in the Fresno area, they're constantly playing, I could not suggest them more highly. I've only seen them twice, though, as I live in Salt Lake and they are rarely playing here.
I have nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.

this album was very influential to me when i was a tad younger, and it still stomps through some points about free art movements that i wholeheartedly believe in. i recommend this album as well. it's sort of hardcore/progressive/numetal but it's done correctly. gets very jazzy in spots.

I would have to recommend The Minutemen. They are an obscure old punk band and are best known for performing the Jackass theme song. It's called "Corona".

A bassist on youtube got me into them, and I think watching some of his covers would let y'all enjoy the band more.

Hmm...going to have to recommend Johnny Flynn. He's fairly new, but his music is unlike anything I've heard before. It's really...refreshing. Definitely loving his new CD, "A Larum."

Philip Glass is also pretty amazing :) He's a minimalist composer, and his songs are just...mesmerizing. I recommend listening to "Floe" from the CD Glassworks. It's the song that got me hooked on his music. (Also, he composed the music for The Illusionist and Notes on a Scandal.)

I agree completely, the only reason I ever found out about him was because I was reading the Pitchfork review of Electriclarryland then listened to that song, then got the whole album.

Also The Butthole Surfers.

Sure it's a cover, but they make it their own.

I would second the recommendation of Modest Mouse, kind of. I don't like their two newest albums much, but The Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon and Antarctica are quite good, though fairly different.

Recommended artist: Pendulum.

If you like drum & bass at all you will probably have heard of them already. However they released an album recently called 'In Silico' which has been called a great 'crossover' album. I played it to one of my work colleagues - who is really into rock music - and he loved it and went out and bought a copy.

Probably the most well-known song on the new album is "Propane Nightmares".

They also have a previous album called "Hold your Colour" which is a bit more like traditional dnb, and they did an essential mix on BBC Radio 1 a couple of years ago which is a must listen if you're into dnb at all. One of the best dnb sets I've ever heard.

My Recommendation Du... Week: Dozer.

Dozer is a stoner rock band from Sweden. While trying to secure a record deal they sent a demo tape to Man's Ruin Records, a highly influential label in the stoner rock scene at the time. Frank Kozik, the owner of Man's Ruin, was thoroughly impressed and the band quickly recorded an album. In 2000 Dozer released their first album In The Tail of a Comet, which was recorded for only $500.

Dozer frequently tours and has played more than 300 live shows spanning several countries. They have toured with bands such as Mastodon, Rollins Band, Hellacopters, Spiritual Beggars, Clutch, Unida, Zeke, Nebula, Entombed, several of whom are good bands.

Dozer - Rising
