I should mention Dino Dimuro
here, and not only because I have so many of his songs on my site (with his permission.)
Y'see, he's sort of the Marcel Proust of the home-taping scene. He's done several dozen albums, and they all document his life. At first listen to him in his heyday, he sounds a lot like Frank Zappa (and I think that's a good thing.) More recently, he's been a lot more mainstream-ish rock.
If you can get your hands on his Gower Street
and Vermont Avenue
pair, do. They document the LA riots that were happening around him.
(And if you turn up your nose when you see he did a song Terri Schiavo
, know this: At the time that was going on, his wife was also in a coma.)
