1. The National - Boxer. It's no Alligator, but it'll do.
2. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters. Mmm, Scottish.
3. Low - Drums and Guns. Even though I haven't heard the whole thing yet.
4. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha. From everyone's favorite whistling fiddler.

"Ongiara" - Great Lake Swimmers
"A Sparrow! A Sparrow!" - Nifty

"Tiny Mirrors" - Sandro Perri
"Welcome to the Night Sky" - Wintersleep

"Reunion Tour" - The Weakerthans
"Five Roses" - Miracle Fortress
"The Reminder" - Feist

These are my top ten--and yes, I've a Top Ten blog entry in the works (cliche, yeah, but!)

Others I enjoyed a lot, and which would probably have made top ten had I spent more time with them:
"Run From Safety" - Octoberman
"Young Galaxy" - Young Galaxy
"Population" - The Most Serene Republic
"Holy Fuck" - Holy Fuck
"Lighthouse for Stragglers' Eyes" - Orillia Opry
"Glory Hope Mountain" - The Acorn

Worthy mentions:
"Close to Paradise" - Patrick Watson
"The Flying Club Cup" - Beirut
"In Rainbows" - Radiohead
"Whore Luck" - Picastro
"A Good Enough Day" - Royal Wood
"Neon Bible" - Arcade Fire

I'm gonna have to say "The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust" from Saul Williams and probably Keep It Going by the Mad Caddies.

The only ones I've really heard.

Some of my favorites, in no particular order:

Yeasayer / All Hour Cymbals
Panda Bear / Person Pitch
Bon Iver / For Emma, Forever Ago
Woods / At Rear House
Jens Lekman / Night Falls Over Kortedala
The GO / Howl On the Haunted Beat You Ride
Mother Mother / Touch Up

I saw Patrick Wolf live this fall and it was absolutely awesome, but I have to say that "The Magic Position" isn't strong enough to warrant a spot in my "best of" lists. I still liked it, and I love a few of the songs, but it didn't blow me away. He's still probably my favorite musician, though, and I'm really looking forward to the next album. You know what really disappointed me, though? Devendra Banhart's latest. :/ It just pales in comparison to his earlier releases.

I have surprisingly little from this year. Most of the new stuff I've got is actually older albums discovered (Or re-discovered, a la Plans and Give Up). Here's what I have though:

In Our Bedroom After The War - Stars
Lon Gisland - Beirut (Technically an EP, but whatever)
Who We Are - Lifehouse
American Doll Posse - Tori Amos.

This man speaks truth.

As well, I really enjoyed:
Novembre - The Blue
Pain of Salvation - Scarsick
Persephone - Letters to a Stranger
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead
Winds - Prominence and Demise
Dial - Synchronized

This year was actually pretty disappointing for me though. Three bands I really like dropped the ball this year, and the rest of the new stuff I'd heard was kind of meh.

On top of my head:

120 days - 120 days (this album really owns and I hope we hear a lot more from these wonderful norwegian boys)
Amon Amarth - With Oden on our side
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli

2007 was a slow year for releases I really liked :\

I'm not into the Creed scene either. I don't see what that has to do with AB, except that most of AB is former members of Creed, now free to play music, especially when they went and sought out one of the most talented indie vocalists in the country.

let me rephrase it in a way that is more personal.

i heard it on the radio and i didn't find it to be worth my time.

Which is why I posted one of the songs that isn't on the radio, because I don't particularly like the songs that made it to the radio. You shouldn't judge a band based on which song the record labels think has the widest appeal...

i keep hearing that, and i keep finding it to be not true. most of the time, the pop and/or rock songs i like are the only good songs on the album.

also, i don't feel the need to buy/download an album from a genre i don't usually care for. i'm not trying to be judgmental here, so let's drop this please. you really don't need to convince me why you like it.

Cobra Skulls- Sitting Army
Of Montreal- Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
Dropkick Murphys- The Meanest of Times
Justice- Cross

Nothing else really got my attention but I didn't get many new albums this year.

Hasn't this already been done here? viewtopic.php?f=23&t=15490

Anyway, to echo my previous sentiments...
In no particular order:
*The National - Boxer
*Beirut – The Flying Club Cup
*Radiohead – In Rainbows
*PJ Harvey - White Chalk (actually, this was probably my favourite album of the year)
*UNKLE - War Stories
*Mice Parade - Mice Parade
*Marissa Nadler -Songs III - Bird On the Water
*Malajube - Trompe l'oeil
*Husky Rescue - Ghost Is Not Real
*El -P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead

Didn't quite make the cut:
The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters
Stars - In Our Bedroom After the War
Múm - Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy

Biggest Disappointment of the Year:
Interpol

This year wasn't as important to my musical development as others have been...I'm not sure if the music is at fault, or if I've just not been as proactive in discovering music as I usually am. Regardless, the new year looks very promising indeed.

I don't think I've checked many albums this year. But my favorites :

Dark Tranquillity - Fiction
Amorphis - Silent Waters
Candlemass - King of The Grey Islands
Symphony X - Paradise Lost

I also checked Dream Theater's but I didn't like it enough to be in that group.

In Rainbows - Radiohead
Places Like This - Architecture In Helsinki
Say No to Being Cool, Say Yes to Being Happy - The Softlightes
Hvarf-Heim - Sigur Ros

For whatever reason, all of these are fairly mellow records; indeed the main reason they're on the list is that they're some of the few albums released in 2007 that I've actually listened to. So, uh, take that as you will.

Boxer - The National
The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter - Josh Ritter
Night Falls Over Kortedala - Jens Lekman
Valentine Vacancy EP - Bedroom Eyes (maybe it doesn't count since it's an EP, but whatever, I love it.)
Neon Bible - Arcade Fire

Then my "second place" favorites..
In Rainbows - Radiohead
Singularity - Mae
In Our Bedroom After the War - Stars (I love the SONG "In Our Bedroom After the War" so much more than anything else on the album..)
The Fragile Army - Polyphonic Spree

I'm sure there are others, but the one I'm about to wear a hole in from playing so often:
The Cost of Living - Jason Webley

Radiohead - In Rainbows (still waiting for my discbox to arrive so I can say that the bonus CD of songs is one of my favourites as well)
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light
Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
Nine Black Alps - Love/Hate
Patrick Wolf - The Magic Position

I'm like Jesse though, in that most of the music I got into this year was either older-than-07 or rediscovered stuff.

Most of mine are Korean.

Dynamic Duo - "Enlightened"
Honey Family - "The Fourth Story"
Lee Ssang - "Black Sun"
Drunken Tiger - "Sky is the Limit" (more of a runner-up)

Then there are American albums:

Serj Tankian - "Elect the Dead"
Wu-Tang Clan - "8 Diagrams"
