depends who i'm with, but it's a sort of unwritten code with one group that we sing almost any beatles song. and american pie. i remember one time american pie was not even halfway done and we sat in the car idling outside my house (i was being dropped off) and sang it through to the end. man that is a really nice memory. also, carry on my wayward son, and depending on what individuals are there some weezer songs. weezer, i've learned, is surprisingly really good to sing along to.

all these are group phenomena though, and since i don't drive i don't know what songs would make me sing them in the car alone. any of you have a song that makes you want to sing it SO FRIGGING BAD you'd do it in a car full of people (they can be close friends if you want) even though none of them are singing it too? i'd probably sing some songs but only with really good friends.

I'm one of those people, too. There was even a commercial about that once. I think it was for Chevrolet.

I'll sing along to pretty much anything.

Whenever Freebird comes up on shuffle in a mate's car, it's almost imperative that we pull over so we can all air guitar the solo.

No matter where we are, or what the weather's like outside. Snow, Rain, Wind. Lynyrd Skynyrd prevails.

I'm not sure if that's the same thing, though.

Anything by the Beatles, Eagles, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, just to name a few. Pretty much anything I know the lyrics to.

One time I was helping a friend of mine bring some stuff back from Alabama. I knew that we'd lose radio reception for most Atlanta-based radio stations, so I decided to program a mix tape (before I got a PC with CD-burning capabilities) of a few CDs I had at the time. One of the songs I dubbed was "Sweet Home Alabama." I programmed it on the tape in hopes that right as we crossed the Georgia/Alabama state line, it would play. It did.

That's one that you cannot turn the car off for. Doesn't matter if it makes you five minutes late to an important appointment (doctor's appointment, job interview, XKCD meetup), you have to stay until American Pie is finished. If you are late for a job interview, explain to the interviewer (potential boss, HR person) why you were late. If you're lucky, they were listening to the song on their radio, and waited to come greet you until it was over. If that be the case, you've got a foot in the door.

This song will get you pulled over by the cops if you play it loud enough. Likewise, you have to sing it as loud as possible. Even if you end up with laryngitis for the next few days, or you need to drink a lot of water.

Yeah, basically anything Bon Jovi. Specially "You Give Love A Bad Name". You can't give up that "SHOT THROUGH THE HEART!"

Err Body in the Club Getting Tipsy, too! That song is damned fun to beat out to.

A lot of Rap, Classic Rock, and Metal gets me singing, lol.

Ocean Man by Ween or any old Weezer.

The "Wee-" prefix is entirely coincidental.

Great sing-along bands: The Aquabats, Faith No More, The Decemberists, Wilco. . .

Pretty much any oldie, ever. (It's the only thing I'll listen to on the radio anyway.)

In general, Beatles/Paul McCartney, Queen, Billy Joel, Styx, Eagles, Boston, Journey, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Yeah - Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's and Revolver (even Let It Be) are all so ingrained into my subconscious that I can't not sing along. I'm not a huge fan of older Beatles but Norwegian Wood is great driving music.

I hope that this doesn't reflect on me, but I learned the lyrics to Rammstein songs so that I could blast them in the car and sing along in a silly, sinister faux-Germanic voice.

I'm the worst person for this..I'll sing along to anything I even know the chorus to...(or think I know the chorus to, or possibly just that one line from the beginning..)

but I can't do it right, and I make anyone with any sense of tune cringe and possibly cry. This mostly encourages me to sing louder.

I can't help that I was never taught to sing!

I'm am not good at singing, but will sing along to anything. I can learn the words to a song by listening to it a few times, so I sing my way through the Top 20 on the way home from work. All songs are fun to sing. Except for Dizzee Rascal and Coco Solid. So damn fast.

Anything I know the words to, basically. and some things I don't. I've found that I'll sing along to songs I hate if I know the words, as if me singing it makes the song less painful.

I don't usually listen to the classics in the car. It's driving in the country with a jaunty tune on the CD player on a sunny day that gets me - nothing better.

I don't just mean the beginning. I mean the one towards the end of the song. Yes, THAT one.

Here, I'll demonstrate:

Phill Collins wrote:...Well I remember...
I remember don't worry...
How could I ever forget?
It's the first time...and the last time we ever met...
But I know the reason why you keep this silence up...
No you don't fool me...
For the hurt doesn't show...
But the pain still grows..
Some stranger to you and me...

(ba-BOOM-ba-BOOM-ba-BOOM-ba-BOOM-BA-BA-BOOM)

I can feel it coming in the air tonight...oh lord...
I've been waiting for this moment...for all my life...oh lord...
I can feel it coming in the air tonight...oh lord...

Fess up...who here beat that out on their desk just now? Bonus points if you got strang looks from others, and the song is not playing on the radio.

I love that drum beat at the beginning of In The Air Tonight. I definitely hit my steering wheel harder than necessary for that one.

I remember...
a bra commercial (I think) which featured a gorilla or something on a drum set. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

OH HO HO IT'S MAGIC! YOU KNOOOOOOW! NEVER BELIEVE IT'S NOT SOOOOOOOO!!!

It's a requirement in my circle to sing that both as loudly and as high as possible whenever possible. Eardrums (and vocal cords) wither and die. It's worth it.
