maudlin of the Well

Postby TheAmazingRando » Mon Jul 28, 2008 11:02 pm UTC

If you couldn't tell by my avatar, I'm a huge fan on the short-lived astral metal band that was maudlin of the Well. While I quite like the direction they've taken as Kayo Dot, their original material holds a very special place to me in my music collection (I'm fortunate enough to own all three out-of-print albums). Are there any other fans here?

But the real reason I started this thread is because they're releasing a new album, for free no less, thanks to donations from fans. I just felt like I had to share the news, in the off chance that there might be someone here who actually cares.

They're an awesome band, no doubt.

I didn't even know they were doing this new album. I thought Kayo Dot was basically just a continuation. I had no idea they wanted to keep Maudlin going.

Kayo Dot was basically a continuation, but most of the members of maudlin of the Well were not involved (and those that were have left, excepting Toby Driver). I'm pretty sure this is just a one-shot thing, they're temporarily reforming for an album's worth of songs that were previously written but never recorded.

Ah, I see. Either way, that's pretty exciting. Is there any more news other than that such as an expected time of release?

Nothing other than that they're going into the studio in February.

Despite this thread being almost a year old, I would like to point out that their new albums rocks my socks off and then tickles my feet in oh, such a tender way, quietly smiling with my playful movements.

And also thank Rando for insisting so much with this band.

MOTW are definitely in my top 5 for bands, even though I don't listen to them that much. Bath/LYBM are both serious experiences, and not to be listened to particularly casually in my opinion.

I was mad excited when I heard of new material, and donated some money (though it's not under my name, due to my lack of a paypal account :P) but I haven't listened to it yet, considering I'm doing a big room reorganisation and the good speakers are currently out of action. Can't wait to get everything back into place and listen properly.

And damn you Rando. I want a copy of Bath. >_<
