i always thought a viking funeral would be sweet.

i've thought that Flogging Molly's If I Ever Leave This World Alive would be cool. maybe the Beatles Across the Universe (pretty video!) too, as it's a beautiful song. more of a contemporary funeral.

don't really know past that. i am only 15, after all.

and there needs to be some weird music, too, like Weird Al, or a Rickroll.

I'm leaning towards King Crimson's Epitaph. It's an utterly beautiful song with a fitting title, I think.
This, or Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Ah, this is a tough one....

I'm going to say...

Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb

But in reality, nothing. I don't want a funeral; I'll be dead, so I won't care- not that I would have a choice in the first place.

Not that it matters to much cause I'll be dead but I think it would definitely have to be Eclipse by Pink Floyd

Great song.

I've had this conversation several times over the years with different people. My selections change each time. Personally, at the moment, I'd want "Down in a Hole" by Alice in Chains if buried and "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash if cremated.

Before I die (I have awhile, only a teenager at the moment) I'm going to record my own eulogy and make a funeral soundtrack. Yes, my funeral is going to have a soundtrack. It might be unconventional (seriously, is it? I've never been to a funeral), but if you're at my funeral I assume you'd have the common courtesy to not complain about my funeral AT my funeral.

In no particular order;

Let It Be - The Beatles
No Longer There - Cat Empire
Vincent - Don McLean
Listen to the Music - Doobie Brothers
Give Me Love - George Harrison
Imagine - John Lennon
Lights - Journey
The Great Gig in the Sky - Pink Floyd
Don't You Forget About Me - Simple Minds
See Me, Feel Me/Listening to You - The Who

Then, my loved ones would pick a song to be played last. The only requirement being something I would want to be played there. Any disagreement would be met by playing both songs.
I don't like Haikus
I think that they're all stupid
Is this ironic?

Random thought: Composing like a mass or a requiem for your own funeral would be hella cool.

Definately Hallowed be thy Name by Iron Maiden, probably one of the most epic songs ever, and very appropriate for a funeral. I'm going to gallows pole!! Or I would rick-roll them. Or BOTH!

First I was thinking RE: You're Brains, but then, Rickrolling everyone is tempting.

Then I realized it all depends on how I die. If I die fighting something like Valhalla - Blind Guardian would be cool. If I'm killed by Dracula's minions, the classic Castlevania song Vampire Killer would be my choice. If I'm struck by lightning, Thunderstruck - AC/DC. Etc.

My father has actually explicitly told me that when he dies, the funeral should be small and not too grand, but he requires live music, if possible a jazz quartet, and they must play: a) Dave Brubeck's "Take 5"
b) "Song for Suzy"

At my funeral, I'll have them play Take 5 as well, for a bit of family tradition, and "Lord of the Dance". Maybe a hymn as well.
This signature still in committee.

Umm... "Lord of the Dance" IS a hymn. Unless there's another song I don't know about with that title.

Would it be too geeky to have Annie Lennox's Into the West? In all seriousness, though (well, I was kind of serious about Into the West...), I have a soft spot for the spiritual "Deep River". I sang an arrangement of it by Tippett in choir, and it was so beautiful and mysteriously moving, it could almost bring tears to my eyes. So yeah, Deep River.

Well, I could go with the person taking the service quoting David Bowie: instead of the traditional "Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust", I'd have to go with something along the lines of "Ashes to Ashes, Funk to Funky"...

Or maybe just a bit of upbeat funk, just to confuse everyone...

Well, if I wanted to screw up the mood of my funeral (and create some irony), I'd go with Indestructible by Disturbed. Otherwise, I would go with Time of Your Life by Green Day, since 1) I'm a huge fan of theirs, and 2) it fits in perfectly.

Seconded. It would have to be something like that, or maybe "Comfortably Numb." Then again, I have peripheral neuropathy so maybe people might read a bit too much into that...

Jeff Buckley is amazing. I'd have them play his cover of Satisfied Mind at my funeral, if I could.

Lyrics:
Spoiler:
How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money, I would do things my way
But little they know, that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind

Money can't buy back your youth when you're old
Friend when you're lonely, oh peace to your soul
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to the man with a satisfied mind

My life is over and my time has run out
My friends and my loved ones, i'll leave these no doubt
One things for certain, when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
My life is over and my time has run out

My friends and my loved ones, i'll leave these no doubt
But one things for certain, when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind
One things for certain, when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind

For the irony factor I'd quite like to have "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi.

But as for songs which I'd actually quite like to have at my funeral, I think Agnus Dei from John Rutter's Requiem. Also The Lord is My Shepherd, also from John Rutter's requiem, would be a good choice,

Random thought: Composing like a mass or a requiem for your own funeral would be hella cool.

Ooooh, I've had this one picked out for a while now.

"So Long Universe" by the Pillows. Besides the obvious implication of the title, the song is totally what I would want. It's not rediculously sentimental, it's just right. It'd be nice if I could understand the lyrics (they're in Japanese), but it's kind of a blessing as well as a curse - as far as anyne knows, the song has the most beautiful lyrics ever penned by humans.

Depeche Mode - A Pain That I'm Used To (Goldfrapp Remix)

I decided on this a while ago. It's a good theme song for my life, and this particular remix fits the mood of a funeral perfectly.

Hm, well first off, at my funeral i want Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake to stab each other at the same time to pay for ruining the Super Bowl halftime show for the next twenty years because of a damn nipple. Then I want Janet Jackson to be held up by wires and to sing every Paula Abdul song she ever made. Just so my family will get a good laugh, and finally realize that everything past the audition rounds in American Idol, is bullshit.

Thank you and goodnight.
