Favorite bands of the 90s

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

No love for Gin Blossoms?

Also:

Harvey Danger
Nada Surf
Stroke 9
Third Eye Blind

I'd say a lot of the pop-punk stuff...but it's hard to remember if they came out in the 2000s

Pavement
Neutral Milk Hotel
Belle and Sebastian

The 90s aren't my favorite decade in music, but those artists are some of my favorites, from that decade and any other.

Some excellent bands already mentioned, but no Sonic Youth? OK, their best albums were in the 80s, but they were still around and good! :P

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds? Murder Ballads and Let Love In are two of the best albums of the 90s, imho.

Pennywise were always a lot of fun live as well. Good times.

Ah, the music of my youth. Some of these bands originated before the 90's, and some are still active today, but they all were active in the decade.

  • U2
  • Barenaked Ladies
  • Third Eye Blind
  • Dream Theater
  • Pixies
  • Pearl Jam

From the 90's and I still enjoy:

Ben Folds Five
The Get Up Kids
Pearl Jam
They Might Be Giants
Sublime
The Meat Puppets (honestly, just Too High to Die)
Incubus (my favourite decade for them)
Pearl Jam
David Bowie (I quite enjoy his 90's output)
Counting Crows (first two albums)
Smashing Pumpkins
Nine Inch Nails
Weezer
Dr. Funke's 100% Natural Good Time Family Band Solution
Radiohead

From the 90's and I've shied away in varying degrees:
Less Than Jake
Matchbox20
Oasis
Barenaked Ladies
Foo Fighters

This is not a complete list. Also, I quite liked the Gin Blossoms, but I wouldn't say favourite.
I have nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.
And some old pictures.

Radiohead
Pearl Jam
Outkast(band?)
NIN
Faith No More
Beck
etc..

Then a handful of bands that have been fads for me (Weezer, Manic Street Preachers...)

I'm sure there're more that I just can't think of right now.

Most of the bands listed here are pretty much the only ones that I listen to nowadays .*sigh*

Though I'm shocked to see no one has mentioned MC Hammer!

I'm definitely not a nineties guy. I wasn't into the grunge and stuff like this.

My favourite band in the nineties was Mr Bungle. By far the best for me.

I'm new around here. I googled and found this forum. Signed up and just had to clear something up real quick.

Someone listed A Perfect Circle in this list.

APC didn't form until 2001.

Tool, on the other hand, was in the 90's. One of the most underrated bands ever. one of my favs. HUGE college following in the 90s. Might still have a huge college following.

While Keenan does the writing and singing for both bands, they are both totally different bands.

Sorry to interject on that! lol

Underrated? Most of the times I've heard people mention Tool, it has been in the context of "best band ever."

I'd say they are easily in my top 5 best bands ever. It's a shame they hardly ever got air time. But, I'm glad they had/have such a huge following.

Let me correct myself while I'm thinking of it.

APC did release their first album in '99. It contained the remake of 'Judith'

But, forming in 99 doesn't make you a band from the 90's in my book lol.

BTW...I love the stuff Green Day put out in the 90s. Not so much now though

Neutral Milk Hotel
The Olivia Tremor Control

Radiohead deserves a mention too I guess.

What did I listen to in the 90s?

Radiohead
Jeff Buckley
System of a Down
Tool
Queen's last albums
Pink Floyd's last albums
The Living End
Kyuss
and more I don't remember anymore. There must have been more.

SKASKASKAHOLYSHITSKA. I miss it :(

Weezer and Cake were good in the 90's.
Blink 182 (I don't have very high hopes for the new stuff).

I gotta say, The one album System of a Down did in the 90's...1998...is hands down, my favorite System album. They are my favorite band and that is my favorite album. Pure and Simple....they didn't care if they sold a million albums or a hundred albums!

I was more of an Alternative fan.
Collective Soul
Foo Fighters
Presidents of the United States of America
Creed
Orgy
Soundgarden.
Days Of The New
Offspring
Our Lady Peace
Soul Asylum
Marcy Playground

Many more......
