Good website to host music?

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

Good website to host music?

Postby saxmaniac1987 » Tue May 18, 2010 3:49 am UTC

Anyone have any good/bad experiences with websites that host/stream audio? I'm looking to upload a couple recitals that I've performed online to share with my family/friends/people I'm auditioning for. I don't really know which ones are good and which suck, so anything you guys can do to help would rock. Thanks!

Uhm, well I know bandcamp... http://bandcamp.com/, dunno if it's what you're looking for.
I wouldn't know from an uploader's point of view, since I'm only good at listening to music, but I've found good bands in there and it seems to be a pretty effective platform (otherwise all I can think of is myspace's crappy flash-based player).

Do you want just streaming or is downloading okay? Tindeck does both.

If you just want the music streaming and you're just gonna show it to specific people with no other requirements myspace might be easiest, I know it's uncool to go for the big site but it's free and easy to do - just use a throwaway email and make a music account for yourself... easy :)

Grooveshark, maybe. Also, Myspace does cater to musicians.

I'm having a pretty good experience with Jamendo. I can recommend it.

For just small audio files for a few people, I generally just use supload.com

So I set up a bandcamp page http://arampiligian.bandcamp.com, but definitely use soundcloud to share things back and forth with friends. Thanks for all the suggestions!
