Becasue we all like to SMILE

I didnt find this topic on here, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

What song/s do you listen to that just make you happy. That no matter what, when you listen to that song your day brightens, even if only for a few minutes.

The 2 I can think of off the top of my head are

"are you in" - incubus

"float on" - modest mouse

I cant help but smile while sining these songs at the tops of my lungs while driving in my car.

If You Find Yourself Caught in Love by Belle & Sebastian. I know it's written by a christian, but the way it casually pokes fun at its subjects really does make me smile. Apart from the whole "say a prayer to the man above" business, there are a few amusing anti-military lines, things like "killing people's not my scene". It really does cheer me up, the same with a lot of B&S songs.

Carey by Joni Mitchell. Just listen to this. If you don't smile, well, you're the worst :P

Spike Jones always makes me smile, especially when I listen to his renditions of Holiday for Strings and Liebestraum.

Hall and Oates' "You Make My Dreams Come True" does this for me, but I won't link it, because it's dangerously catchy.

I need a dangerously catchy song. Ive had some acoustic version of "Jumper" stuck in my head for about a week. I keep walking around yelling "your a flash of LIGHT on the burial shroud"

Cuttin' Butter, by the "What Me Worry? Jug Band". I can't find a Youtube-style format for this song, but here's where I got it from, and where you can get it too.

You'll need to download the mp3. Sorry. It's worth it, though. Totally.

Not sure why, but The Killers - When You Were Young is for me pretty much insta-smile.

Just for sje.

That last one has some seriously happy memories, and if anyone knows where to get it on vinyl, I'll be forever endebted.

Wow, apparently people think it's unreasonable for someone to ask them to label their youtube links.

no need to be so down about it. this is a SMILE thread, just listening to these songs should make you happy enough to be ok with the lack of detail :)

Really? It doesn't look like anyone thinks that.

On a somewhat related note, at least four people think it's unreasonable for someone to command them to label their YouTube links.

I actually put that there because I find it impossible to judge how annoyed sje is through words. He always seems to be foaming at the mouth, but then says he's not pissed.

I thought I'd throw that at him, because I foolishly listened to midnight (Which is my new album name).

Doesn't matter how often I "foam at the mouth". You should still label your links.

For sje's convenience.

(There's a Firefox add-on that will display the title of a Youtube video in a tooltip when you hover the mouse over the link.)

According to the web security site McAfee, there has been a numerous outbreak of viruses spread on computers, due to people clicking on links promising to take them to a legit site, but instead they download viruses.

Just sayin'.

That's a potential problem for all links that aren't their urls, video title or not. It's not even a real problem because, as far as I'm aware, all browsers display the url of a link when you hover over it.

So I don't have to click on a song just to see what it is. If it's Mr Blue Sky, I can just look at it and say "I agree, that is a nice song" without actually having to click through.

I don't want to just let people know what a song is. I want them to listen to it. That's why I link to YouTube rather than just writing it down, and that's why I often don't put the song info in the link.

I took me all day, but I was finally able to watch most of these. The "Jumper" one made me smile the most I think. Also watching "fluffy pink unicorns jumping on rainbows" in my tent on full blast got some "What the F!@#"s out of people in other rooms.

I enjoyed pretty much all of these though.

Bowling for Soup: Pictures He Drew
The Dollyrots: Because I'm Awesome
Jonathan Coulton: Mr. Fancy Pants

These three songs always me quite happy.

Following up with PhillipC's suggestion, I'm going to just say most things by Jonathan Coulton.

"Code Monkey" and "Shop Vac" are my favorites. "Shop Vac" is actually really depressing, but it's fun to sing along to.

Pretty much everything on his "JoCo Looks Back" compilation, actually.

If someone is willing to watch a video, he will watch it whether it's labelled or not.

Is someone is not willing to watch a video, he won't watch it if it's labelled and will get annoyed if it's not.

So no, there's no advantage in not labelling the videos. Besides, labelling is polite.

What about the people who wouldn't click if they had an idea of what they were going to hear, but might give it a shot if they didn't know until it was already playing? There are more states of mind to be in than just two.

One song which always puts a smile on my face (I generally have to listen to it three or four times for that reason) is Mint Car by The Cure. Such a happy song :)

(Second time I've posted about the Cure in about five minutes, once in the sad songs thread and once in the happy songs thread. Just got them on the brain I guess!)
