Interpret song lyrics!

It's only cool if no one's heard of it.

Interpret song lyrics!

Postby rigwarl » Tue Jul 26, 2011 5:09 am UTC

I've been trying really hard to figure out what this song is written about (of course, I know songs are open to interpretation). Anyone wanna take a shot? They are Christian artists- I assume "He does too" refers to God but not much else seems to be too relevant to religion.

Lyric interpretation is something I try to do all the time, so I figured maybe we can have a thread for it where anyone can post a song they are pondering if there is interest. If there already is one sorry for failing at search.

Nichole Nordeman & Amy Grant - I'm With You

Love is a hurricane in a blue sky,
I didn't see it coming, never knew why,
All the laughter and the dreams, all the memories in between, washed away in a steady stream.
Love is a hunger, A famine in your soul.
I thought I planted beauty, but it would never grow.
Now I'm on my hands and knees, trying to gather up my dreams, trying to hold on to anything.
We could shake our fists in times like this when we don't understand or we could just hold hands.

(Chorus)
You and me , Me and you, Where you go I'll go too, I'm with you, I'm with you,.
Till your heart finds a home, I won't let you feel alone, I'm with you , I'm with you, with you.

You do your best to build a higher wall.
To keep love safe from every wrecking ball.
Then the doctors clearly will see the house that love rebuilt, guarding beauty that lives here still.

(Chorus)
It's you and me , Me and you, Where you go I'll go too, I'm with you ,I'm with you.
Till your heart finds a home, I won't let you feel alone, I'm with you, I'm with you.

Who can say I'm left with nothing?
When I have all of you, all of you, yeah.
In the way you've always loved me.
I remember. He does too.

(Chorus)
It's you and me, Me and you, Where you go I'll go too, I'm with you, I'm with you.
Till your heart finds a home, I won't let you feel alone, I'm with you, I'm with you.
Me and you are gonna make it through me and you.
I'm with you, I'm with you, with you.

I'm With You: When our love goes wrong, I'll fight for us! Could be specifically referring to sisterly love since it's a duet with two ladies.

The only thing I'm not really sure about is the line in the bridge that says "In the way you've always loved me." I would have said "In A way"... Other than that, I think it's pretty straight forward...

Here's one I've been listening to a bunch lately. Something about a daughter? Or something? :D
Manchester Orchestra - Pensacola

Now I have a nagging flaw I never saw it sneaking up
it wrapped it's dirty arms around me
Pockets full of blood
After I had seen the sight I hardly had a choice to fight
A nail snuck out behind the van and it hit me through my sweater and my shirt
And when I looked at Michael he heard "I need to be alone"
But when he turned his head I soon corrected "Need to be at home"
It took me all this time to get where I said I would never be
I hope it's not even out there
I hope eventually you'll see what you've been turning me into
It's all for you

It feels like 37 years and I am nothing but a bank
If we could build our credit score "Incredible," they'll surely say
But I can credit only one to focus all the fame
It has the first and last even the middle of my very name
I am the greatest man that never lived and now i never sleep
I never lost a fight but never knew I started one the same
I never knew how capable I would become

I'm tired of talking to a wall when I could talk to someone else
It's got seven days without a word and you're with someone somewhere else

My daughter, she barely eats
She barely sleeps
She barely speaks
My daughter, she barely eats
She barely sleeps
She barely speaks to me

We spent the most of nights defending fights you fought in the past
But it was different now and I'm entirely too drunk to ask
You spend most every day enjoying the sun and hoping it lasts
I have a funny gut and feeling doubtful you'll get it back
I have a funny gut and feeling doubtful you'll get it back

Alcohol, dirty malls, Pensacola, Florida bars

Hi, guys.
I couldn't find that particular song on a shallow search, but for reference the site http://www.songmeanings.net is my favourite and usually very useful for lyric interpretation. Try it.

Hey. Could someone interpret this song, The Siren of the Woods by Therion?

Enuma ilu aviluma
ardu shamash apkallu baru
Nergal ina ramanisu
annu ki-utu-kam ilu

Parak simati
muballit mitte
Nergal allatu mellamu mesaru
la tapallah Annuaki
kettu puluthu qillatu

Erset la tari eimmu
ina ramanisu melammu
baru dinau
allatu Nergal
sar kissati

Nergal allatua
allatu Adapa
ina ramaniusue

A translation (from songmeanings.net) is given as follows:

When God's human being
Shamash's slave, wise men, saw
Nergal in himself
This Earth-stomped land became God's.

At a decent throne
Of life and death
Nergal comes glowing,
Not stopping at Senior Gods
As he was fear's bride.

In the land with no return
In it's glory
The look upon judgement
Gave birth to Nergal
The king of underground.

Nergal was born,
Adapa suffered,
of what was in himself

Therion's music is often infused with mythology, esoteric theology and philosophy, and it strikes me as having much more than meets the eyes. Any wisdom is appreciated.
I love this song.
