Funny Farm [solutions discussion]

Postby Drostie » Tue Jun 19, 2007 12:30 pm UTC

Some space to post words that you've gotten already!

First off, we need a way to label screens. So, I'm going to propose that we go from (1,1) to (5,5). The starting screen is then (3,3). The numbering is normal matrix numbering, so the first coordinate is north-south, the second is east-west. the distance down; the second is the distance across. Post names in such a way that you could enter them sequentially into the present discussion.

I'll post the starting core:

We start, given "On the farm" in (3,3):
: : : Ox, Bull, Cow,
: : : Chicken, Hen, Rooster, Egg
: : : Barn, Silo
: : : Sheep, Goat, Milk
: : : Pig

"Pig" opens up (3,2):
: : : Judaism, (religions), Christianity, Islam,
: : : Buddhism, Hinduism, karma
: : : Torah, Qur'an, Bible, book, Jesus
: : : Scientology, Tom Cruise

"Tom Cruise" and "book" both open up (3,1):
: : : book club, Oprah Winfrey

"Jesus" (from (3,2)) opened up (4,2):
: : : Chris Ferguson, poker stars,
: : : Greg Raymer, Fossilman
: : : Chris Moneymaker, money

"money" opened up (4,3):
: : : time, magazines, mad
: : : People, Fortune, Forbes
: : : Playboy, Cosmopolitan, sex, prostitution

At this point, I'm tired enough for a break, so others can take over. I'm particularly curious to see how they relate the farm in (3,3) to the magazines in (4,3) -- because you can see the link now on (3,3).

(3,3)
on the farm - farmer - humans
(4,3)
humans - people - magazines

Rock on! Thanks for that.

I didn't see this earlier, but skep posted it in the other thread: here's a link to the progress done so far.

Awesome!

Science and archaeology are in (4,1). Currently expanding on that.

Edit: Center element is "Earth Sciences," includes meteorology, weather, geology, rocks, and rock & roll. I'm going to play a little more with this before I post a link.

Progress

Bull connects to BS connects to Penn and Teller connects to a new category: Magicians.

Magicians connects to Harry Houdini connects to straitjacket connects to ??? connects to British Bands. Bewilderingly, ??? is not Iron Maiden.

Edit: Never mind, apparently it's dire straits. Here's the merged version.

I'm looking forward to the day when the SNES emulator on my computer works by emulating the elementary particles in an actual, physical box with Nintendo stamped on the side.

The key to 2,3 is "BS" and "Rodeo".

Also use: rodeo clowns, clowns, magicians, david blaine, penn & teller, david copperfield, harry houdini.

Money connects "time" to the poker page.

Merged last three, added "war on drugs" and "colombia" to (2,1):

Like I said, matrix notation:

(1,1) (1,2) (1,3) ...
(2,1) (2,2) (2,3) ...
(3,1) (3,2) (3,3) ...
... ... ... ...

The way that you would naturally number the grid in base 5 arithmetic and English grammar, if you had to start from 1 instead of 0.

Progress

I have a lot in the top left, including a yellow one (X-Files) which gives us part of the solution. I'm not sure it is fully merged with everyones.

The thing linked to by all the games that aren't Snakes & Ladders, Backgammon, Scrabble, or Monopoly is "strategies."

I lol'ed.

Edit: also, the 3-letter drug is LSD.
