Router Troubles

Postby mitch1423 » Mon Dec 10, 2012 11:24 pm UTC

I continually lose connection on things, have high packet loss, sometimes web pages don't load, ect. I think the reason is that we're using 5+ devices (3 computers, 2 ipads, ect.), and the router can't handle the load. What should I look for if I want a router that can handle lots of data?

If you disconnect all but one device, do the connection issues persist? If yes, then it's not the router.

If you connect directly into the modem, do the connection issues persist? If yes, then it's not the router.

Rule out issues first before spending money you don't need to.

Agreed. And when you say "lose connection", I'm assuming this is all over wireless? Do you get the same symptoms with a wired connection? Are there specific times of day when this is a problem? Is there a microwave oven nearby? Also, what model of router do you have?
