Girl Scout Cookie Poll

by Amnesiasoft
Which is truly the best girl scout cookie? I say Thin Mints, because Thin Mints are minty, which is automatic victory in 99% of all things.
This is what happens when you make a poll about Girl Scout cookies and don't include Talon's favorite. Otter just doesn't cut it. - ST

Thin mints.
Although I prefer a Peppermint Patty any day.

Tagalongs. Mmmm...peanut butter.

Making me hungry just to think about the creamy deliciousness. I wish I was still a Girl Scout.

Otter. Never tasted either. I dislike mint chocolate, though.

Also, in Israel there is no seperation between girl and boy scouts...

what? samoas. or caramel de-lites or whatever those toasty coconut dreams are called where you live.

Hm, it sort of depends on the circumstance.

Generally, thin mints are the best. Simple, delicious, and a lot of them come in one box. Thin mints are also great with coffee/tea (particularly if you toss a thin mint in the grinds while you're brewing the coffee).

If I'm having them with tea, then All Abouts are the best (shortbread with fudge on one side).

Otherwise, generally, tagalongs are pretty good, but those take third place.

Ideally, I'll get something like 4 boxes of Thin Mints, 3 of All Abouts, and 2 of Tagalongs during the Girl Scout Cookie season. I had a hard time finding them last year, though, for some odd reason. KF

Between the two I picked Tagalongs. They're almost like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup but with a shortbread cookie. Almost.

I much prefer Samoas/Caramel Dee-Lites. They are full of coconut-chocolate-caramel win.

I usually get one box of each every year. Sometimes if I'm feeling greedy I'll buy two: one to eat now and the other to freeze for later.

Samoas by FAR. Nothing else compares. Stupid poll.

Thin Mints are just the best cookies ever. Period.

right now, ANY cookie would be awesome, so chose otter/duck. they both sound awesome, but if i had both here with me now the thin mints would take tasty priority.

There are two boxes of Lemon Chalet Cremes on my desk, and they're begging me to open a Girl Scout cookie thread. I figured I'd revive the poll instead in the interest of thread conservation. (Actually, the cookies are begging me to eat them; the cookie thread is just my attempt to delay the inevitable.)

I like both Tagalongs and Thin Mints (and even Samoas, even though I'm not a coconut fan!), but my favorite is "whichever otter/duck will be discontinued in a few years." At least, that's the way it usually works for me, including:
  • Lemon Pastry Cremes (which were better than Lemon Chalet Cremes because of the crispy pastry-like cookies)
  • Cafe Cookies (good for dunking in tea)
  • Ole Oles
  • Lemon Coolers

And since I like Lemon Chalet Cremes, you can probably expect them to be discontinued in a year or two :(

So, I finally got my Girl Scout cookies in. So far, I have:
- 2 boxes of Thin Mints
- 2 boxes of Tagalongs
- 1 box of Dulce de Leche (new)
- 1 box of Lemon Chalet (new)

I'm planning on getting another box of Thin Mints, and 3 boxes of Thanks-a-Lots (what used to be called All-Abouts, with fudge on one side of a shortbread cookie), once I find some folks selling them on the street.

...when one of my coworkers overheard me saying this, she pointed out that it sounded like I was talking about drugs.

jeffk wrote:Cafe shave and a haircut (two bits) (good for dunking in tea)

The Thanks-a-Lot ones are also great for dunking in tea (similar to the Cafe Cookies but with chocolate). I thought they were discontinued, but I think I may have just overlooked them on the order form. But yeah, if they haven't been canceled, then I'd keep an eye out for them. They've taken the place of Thin Mints as my favorite. KF

Thin Mints all the way. They're no good for dunking, but, hey, that's why Oreos were invented.

Also, Keebler Grasshoppers -- for when you want to crush a girl scout's dreams by not buying Thin Mints from her.

Thin mints v. samoas would be a worthy poll. Thin mints v. any other girl scouts cookie is just a selfish reaffirmation of the greatness of thin mints!

(yes, there's a partially eaten box of thin mints right of the monitor)

P.S quite the necromancy...

Well...long before I was gluten intolerant I ate about half a box of thin mints ( I was 8 ). And then I puked. From the top bunk---mostly on my sister's bed.

I'm not fond of girl guide cookies.

Here's a homemade Samoas recipe that I've been meaning to try and keep forgetting.
And Samoas definitely get my vote here, although Thin Mints come in a close second.

Edit: Wrong URL.

These (regional?) names are confusing. I was a Girl Scout and the only ones I recognize are thin mints and lemonades. My favorite kind is peanut butter patties which would be...tagalongs.

I am using my canadian-ness to skew your poll results.

In that we have "girl guides" and they only have two kinds of cookie.
But one of them strongly resembles the thin mints and i dream of them.... so i guess that's pretty fair.

I should go visit my parents.
Get them to buy me some damn cookies.

Yes, I was wondering what the deal with all those fancy names was.

I know some people strongly prefer the old-fashioned chocolate/vanilla Oreo-style cookies, but I never quite understood what the big deal was. Thin mints all the way.

I'd always wondered if the cookie thing had spread to Girl Scouts/Guides in other countries. Any other places in addition to Canada and the US?

Thin mints are awesome. I can eat an entire roll in about 15 minutes if Im not paying attention.

Im still pissed off that the animal treasure cookies aren't animal treasure cookies anymore. I mean WTF? How can you get rid of cookies? There should be a rule to only add new cookies and never take away the old ones.

Thin Mints all the way. I'm having a very hard time rationing them and I'm halfway through the second sleeve of Box 1. They make the day better.

Definitely going with Thin Mints. I also liked Tagalongs and the lemon cookies, but I haven't had either in about 15 years, so I don't know if I still like them. I would even eat Samoas, even though I've never liked coconut.

Anyone else look forward to the Edy's seasonal Girl Scout cookie ice cream? My family always buys a pint of Thin Mint. Last month, I made crisp chocolate chips cookies and made ice cream sandwiches with the Thin Mint ice cream. It was heavenly... and my friend and I managed to eat the entire batch of cookies between us.

Tagalongs are best, but only when frozen. Actually, almost all girl scout cookies are better frozen.

But, but, they're just so delicious! I MUST have them!

That's a rather dirty trick, since most people wouldn't have previous boxes to compare the sizes. I do feel better about the amount of them I eat now.

For a second I thought you were pointing out the slightly-increased fat content.

By the way, where do you folks get your cookies from? Last time I bought some, they were being sold from a table at the mall. My mother would have been appalled by the girls' lack of manners and professionalism.

In front of grocery stores. One creepy thing this last week: there has been a short red-headed girl with too much energy at every one I went to. Different girls, mind you. Do they get more attention (thus, sales) that way, I wonder?

Ah yes, they didn't count on some of us buying enough Thin Mints to last an entire year. Now I have to buy 22% more to last until next year!

Jorpho wrote:For a second I thought you were pointing out the slightly-increased fat content.

I hadn't even noticed that! I was too fixated on the drop in number of total cookies. KF

But I realized I don't need to eat the whole box so I gave them to my office mates to save me from myself :D
