Went to the market to stock upon meat and impulse bought some lambs kidneys. Fried them up with bacon and onion and ate them in a fresh roll. It was awesome, why hadn't anyone told me kidneys are awesome!?

I met some excellent fluffy tahini cookies yesterday. Getting praises from coworkers.

For a moment, I was thinking that sounds weird, but then I remember I like halva. Every time I think of tahini, I think of hummus and forget it can be used to make sweet things, too.

Next time, go and get some ice. You'll get more kidneys that way.

Harvesting fresh kidneys is actually kind of a PITA. The butchers is just fine.

Turkey meatballs with some more of my chipotle-garlic paste, brown basmati rice, and wilted chard with lime.

It looks so pretty in a bowl together.

If you ever want to try something really amazing, try making them with yeast rather than chemical leaveners sometime. You have to plan them ahead of time, but they're pretty fantastic. (I'm assuming you used baking powder/soda, of course. Cue line about assumptions.)

Iced lemon cream cheese cookies and plain old chocolate chip cookies. To be taken to Sacramento tomorrow as a thank you gift for our realtor.

Last few days:
Andouille, lentil, and rice soup
A salad of coarse bulgur, cabbage, tomato, onion, olives, and garlic, with a bit of olive oil and red wine vinegar

Got lots to get made today for a weekend of Ren Faire merchanting.
Breakfast sausage, then into sausage rolls, baked and frozen.
Chicken and dumplings; making the stew and freezing it, then making the dumpling dry mix so we can finish them on the stew on site; bulgur pilaf mix; chocolate cookies; two gallons on iced tea, also to freeze; probably one thing I've forgotten.
Having stuff frozen makes keeping the cooler cold much easier.
So much tastier than the crap R brings when he's selling by himself. He's silly that way.

Made naan bread to go with a curry made from jarred sauce.

We didn't have yoghurt, so I used more butter. It didn't turn out great, but it was decent-ish bread.

Expensive?
The kale cost 95p but I only used about a quarter of it in the recipe = 24p
Parsley 35p, again used about a quarter = 9p
quinoa is 56p per 100g = 28p
chickpeas are 44p can = 11p
flaxseed oil was about £6/bottle, but it's a big bottle = 20p max?

Total cost = 92p. I've had cheaper meals, but it's not bad.

Mayonnaise. Surprisingly easy and so much tastier than the jarred stuff.

And you can do so much with just an egg and oil. I'm thinking sweet mayo at some point. :x

I assume you're using GPB? If so, with Google converting the currency, I get quinoa costing around 120p per 100g.

Tuna casserole, from scratch except for the canned fish, with spaetzle instead of pasta.

On Friday I made a wheat casserole thing with cauliflower, onions, garlic, zucchinis and carrots. I then made German potato-dumplings for a friend's German-themed party. They turned out OK, not great.

Pate on toast with a salad of black russian tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil.
Roast chicken with pumpkin and shallots.
Tajine of lamb chops, chickpeas and apricots.
Vanilla rice pudding (modified from an Ainsley Harriot recipe).

Over a camp stove on Friday:
Grilled trout and bulgur pilaf. R doesn't get fish at home, so it's fun to cook it when we're away. The rest of the weekend was stuff made at home and frozen for travel, so it was just reheating-but still very nice. R will live on cheap ramen, canned chili, cheese and crackers if you let him, alas. Always nice to have an appreciative audience.

Cucumber-tomato-beet green-dill salad with oil & vinegar, with fresh-picked beet greens and dill. Now I just have to figure out how to use the rest of the beet greens - I thinned my beets today and since they sprouted well, have a TON of greens.

And skillet potatoes with more fresh dill, from fresh (home-grown?) potatoes. I was weeding the rest of the garden when my neighbour called me over to show me that I had egg-sized baby potatoes under some some of my potatoes that were planted in her field. I'm going to miss my garden and all the delicious fresh stuff next summer when I'm back home in NY.

@Amarantha: do you have a link to the rice pudding recipe?

Yesterday I made lamb mafe. I've been craving it for ages, but it seemed like my life got crazy busy right when okra came back into season. (Coincidence? I think not.) I suppose I could have used the frozen stuff to make it back when I had time to make stews, but I find that somewhat takes away from the "slimy but satisfying" quality of okra that makes it worth eating.

I'm working on emptying the pantry as I'm moving in a little more than a month.

I made mac and cheese (box), threw in some browned ground beef, added a heck of a lot of chili powder, and some canned corn. Was actually very decent and may become one of my standards for quick and easy not-so-healthy meals.

The leftovers are pretty good too.

On Wednesday night I made a biscuit cake (British biscuits). Basically layers of biscuits and custards, kinda common in Israel.
Yesterday I made a nice chocolate cake with a crunchy base made of nuts and a top layer very rich in chocolate.
Right now I'm making a fake pizza for lunch. Fake because I don't have any yeast so I'm using baking powder.

Sliced potatoes, red onions, bacon, jack cheese, and cilantro in tinfoil on the grill and chick thighs coated in paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, and a honey/cider vinegar glaze broiled. Was good.

Yesterday I made tapioca with dried blueberries, bananas and coconut milk. First time I've prepared it. Should have used less coconut and more regular milk, the coconut flavor is a bit strong. Also, turns out it becomes quite lumpy after a night in the fridge, but still tasty.

About to move into party prep mode:
Pastry shells and pastry cream
Chimichurri marinade
Sesame garlic marinade
Mango sorbet
Something chocolate
Bulgur pilaf
Feta stuffing for stuffed tomatoes
Then to marinate the skirt steak and skewer and marinate the shrimps
A fun evening, all in all.

A nice soupy, peanut-butter-roux gumbo (as opposed to my favorite, yet time-consuming, tar-like variety :)), with bacon, onion, mild green chilis of unknown breed, whole wheat and barley for carb fillers, and, of course, okra.
