Char Siu Bao, or bbq pork steamed buns. The shaping needs more practice but the bao are great.
Also a nice batch of granola with olive oil and a bit of salt. Plenty of dried fruits and nuts too. It's nice to have a recipe that doesn't start with a 50# bag of oats...

Lately I've been making couscous as a side dish and trying to sneak as many vegetables as possible into it. (I am not a big veggie eater.) My latest triumph was carrot, capsicum (red pepper), pumpkin, and leftover roasted garlic and Spanish onion all pulsed in my mini food processor until it was very finely diced, then fried it up for a few minutes with some tomato paste while I did the same to some mushrooms and zucchini (courgette). Added them in and stirred them for a while before I added the couscous, butter and stock. It actually turned out really well, and the veggies yielded so much once they were all chopped up that I have a couple of containers of them in the freezer ready for next time.

Last night, Roast Bone Marrow and Parsley Salad. The night before, lamb rib cutlets with nicola mash and asparagus. Tonight, if all goes to plan, liver and eggplant.

Today-3: chicken stew starter (sufficiently large pot for the full stew was already in use).
Today-2: chicken stew (onions, garlic, carrots, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes)
Today-1: chicken stew vegetables were no longer crunchy.
Today: bacon and eggs over a leftover waffle, smothered in hot sauce (I just think it's cool my favorite mild hot sauce has a wikipedia article--and FYI for good hotter sauces); then thinned stew, and added leftover corn.

It may seem odd, but try adding crumbled feta or gorgonzola to some (upon serving), when making it with somewhat sweet vegetables (carrots, squash, caramelized onion or garlic, etc.).

That sounds like a great idea, everyone in my family likes feta. Frying up some haloumi might also be a nice accompaniment so thanks for making me think of that too :D

I had another triumph tonight experimenting with things I had on hand. I made kind of a stir-fry using chicken, pumpkin and carrot sauteed together in my electric wok with soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, ginger and garlic and then finished off with basil, fresh coriander and preserved kaffir lime leaves, and served on rice. I added extra water to get the last of the chilli sauce out of the bottle and I think it was enough to break the pumpkin down a little. It was pretty awesome!

nice batch of pistachio korma. The only hassle is getting the skins off of the pistachios, but at least I can get them shelled! Also some mac and cheese, with extra cheese.

Yesterday (edit: 25th): coconut korma with basil, served over carrot rice. It's better as leftovers, surprisingly, and now smells like soap :shock:.
Today (edit: 27th): whipped up some whole wheat bao, filled with hash browns, chicken, and poached eggs. It's all PAstrychef's fault, giving me a hankering for steamed buns.

I'm not sorry to have spread the bao meme.
I made pork roast braised in milk with sage, garlic and lemon. Very easy, faster than I expected and damn fine. Whole wheat bulgar pilaf and broccoli to go with.
Also chicken soup because a roommate is under the weather. Chicken soup in the freezer is better than money in the bank.

A slightly modified version of this recipe I found for spicy turkey sloppy joes, using jalapeƱos from the garden and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. I like a bit of green on mine and we had only cabbage and sprouts in the fridge, so I made a very simple slaw with the cabbage, cider vinegar, juice of half an orange, bit of mayo, local honey, S&P. Because cabbage by itself is not really that great. It actually was pretty good.

And earlier, I made shortbread cookies with orange zest and nutmeg from this amazing book of cookie recipes that Sarah has, and never showed me until now! It's probably the absolute more bare-bones recipe in the book, and the flavoring is the same as my custard pie recipe, which happens to use a shortbread crust (and which I think is tastier overall than just some shortbread cookies). THERE WILL BE MORE COOKIES ON THE MORROW.

Using the same dough recipe as for the bao, except with 1/2c olive oil added (mmmm, green fat!), I mixed in finely chopped onion, celery, and finger hots into the dough, steamed them as small buns, and had them with miso soup. Good, but filled steamed buns are better.

I've got a batch of popovers about to come out of the oven and a yorkshire pudding baking in the crockpot. Both recipies come from Alton Brown.

EDIT1: Popovers just came out of the oven. given the fact that they're my first bath and using the wrong pan, I dare say they came out well.

Yesterday I made an Orange-Cranberry bundt cake for the folks at the internship. Alas, they only ate a few slices, but they were complaining about the number of people who were out of the office. They perked right up when I offered a pumpkin chocolate chip one for next week.
Feels like it might be a good day for baking.

A kind of clafouti, which is a kind of pancake with cooked fruits . I used some pears going soft-with the soft parts cut out-an apple and some cranberries, tossed in some sugar and spices and spread them in a pie plate. The batter was 2 eggs, some buttermilk left from a great batch of cornbread and some vanilla extract. baked until set, served warm with home made vanilla ice cream left from the summer. Very tasty.

Today I made:
Lasagna to eat at work (vegetarian, used cottage cheese sauce instead of bechamel to save calories)
Cookies (chocolate butter cookies with dulce de leche, because I had extra calories from the lasagna I guess)
For lunch, some pasta with olive oil, garlic, chili, pine nuts, dried tomatoes and coriander as well as tomato, mozzarella and basil salad.

My friend had a cooking party this weekend I went to because he had to make a lot of food for the week/to freeze.

We made:
Meatsauce for pasta--this involved cooking in the oven for several hours.
Bread (which I couldn't eat)
A Flemmish Stew thing--which involved beer, onions, beef and mustard coated bread on top.
A french stew like thing (which I was adamantly told was not a stew) that had white wine in it.
Brownies
Tomato Soup with mushrooms

Today I made butter chicken. Mmm.

It's a good thing I'm already heating up leftovers, 'cause that's a mouth-watering post, right there. And, thanks to Google, I now know what spanakopita are (I've had them, but had clue what they were called).

I haven't set foot in food, lately, so:
A couple days ago: somen noodle soup w/ a vegetable tomato broth. Noodles being an excuse to put forth the effort to start a decent broth, pretty much.
A day ago: turned the broth into a light soup gumbo (I usually go the dark sludge gravy variety, that takes awhile to cook), w/ a whole wheat roux, and rice mixed right in.
Today: bread--like foccaccia, except all whole wheat.

For dinner I cooked whole wheat pasta. For the sauce, I used (only fresh, no cooking at all) a fresh garlic clove, one chili pepper, diced tomatoes, pine cones, chickpeas, some lemon juice, some olive oil and tahini. It was awesome.

Did you make your own pasta or buy it? I haven't found a good brand of whole wheat pasta. There are some OK brands that are partly whole wheat, though.

But it was the feast day of overconsumption! If I had time to post, I wouldn't have had time to make:
Cornbread-apple-sausage stuffing (yes, I made the cornbread, no, I didn't make my own sausage this year)
barley-mushroom-lemon stuffing
turkey stock and gravy
bourbon-spiked pumpkin cheesecake
Sri Lankan style sweet potatoes
loads and loads of mashed spuds
the turkey
a big salad with peppers, sun dried tomatoes and green onions mixed in
cranberry-orange relish, which be came the obligatory dish-that-never-makes-it-to-the-table.
some nifty things from my new savory baking book for nibbles-pistachio rounds with a poppy seed border, lemon/thyme/sea salt shortbreads, 5-spice black and white sesame wafers, the end of the tomato cheesecake batter baked up as a dip.
This was spread over several days, so there was no last minute chaos.
Otherwise, I had lots of ramen noodles for breakfast last week, and sammies for lunch. Made from leftovers from a huge deli tray that went with a meeting. Nothing exciting there.

This past week has been busy because we've been moving, but it also meant I did a lot of cooking to use up ingredients. A rough timeline:
Day 0: preferment for...
Day 1: two huge loaves of whole wheat bread
Day 2: chicken and rice soup with lots of veggies
Day 3: whole wheat focaccia with rosemary; pasta with vodka sauce and chicken
Day 4: chicken and veggie stir fry; two meals' worth of fried rice to put in the fridge, so we'd have something to eat after the pots and pans were packed
Day 5: eating leftovers of the above, and whatever else was left in the fridge/pantry, before sitting down to a thanksgiving dinner I was thankful to have cooked none of.
