Summer is killing meee :(

Postby fenrir_darkwolf » Tue Jul 07, 2009 11:07 pm UTC

Oh god, I never thought time off school would be this painful, but REALLY I miss weekly assignments :'(. Anyone have challenging problems in mathematics (preferably applied) or physics I can work on (I'm going into my second year at uni if difficulty is a consideration).

Try the enigma puzzles from New Scientist... there's a new one each week and they're mostly math oriented.

You could order the books for your fall classes and get a head start on them. Or if you think this might leave you bored when you have to go over the material again in the fall, you can always do some of the more challenging problems from your books from earlier classes.

a quick search revealed http://mathschallenge.net/, or if you want to try a bit of programming you could try Project Euler

The Putnam is always a source of math problem, though they are usually not applied. They are a killer, though, and being able to do them pretty much means you are all set for your whole university career.

Working full time... there still exists spare time :P, and a lot of it! School killed a lot more time than I thought...

How about Professor Morin's undergraduate physics problem of the week?
Or a copy of 200 Puzzling Physics Problems?
