Homework Marathons

Postby Osha » Sat Sep 05, 2009 4:32 am UTC

Any procrastinators like me who put homework off as long as possible?
What's the longest amount of time you've spent continuously* on homework?
*Allowing for showers, food preparation, and short 10-ish minute breaks

I just did the past two weeks of anthropology homework in 3 hours.
The longest I've ever done was about 8 hours a day for two days in a row. I started and finished a book report (and read the book) that had been assigned 1+ months prior. Got an A+ on that assignment too :D

It's surprisingly fun to do it the other way around: rush everything on the first day you get it as if it's due tomorrow, and sit on it for a month.

Although I did a project two months in advance (had figured that I wouldn't have had time otherwise), turned it in, been told by the teacher it was very good and when he wished to discuss it further I didn't remember what I had written it about. Cue awkward moment.

8 hours? IS THAT IT? Longest I've gone through is 48 hours. It was for a maymester English class and the final paper was a subjective paper on something related to your major. Since I only had one week to do this paper and I'm in the highly objective field of CS, I spent 5 days writing a paper and an accompanying computer program to go with it.

Worse class for all nighters for me was data structures. It really sucks when you spend all night on a program and it doesn't work. It sucks even more when the prof sees all his bleary eyed students and gives you and your classmates an extension since that means you're going to take a 10 hour nap and spend yet another all nighter on the damn thing.
(11:20:42 PM) NapalmCornflak3s(Parkaboy): organizing porn is easy at my house. there are two folders: "tentacle" and "other"

Oh man, you just reminded me of my B-Tree assignment.
Didn't lose any sleep or anything, but almost all my free time for a week was consumed by that horrible assignment.
It wouldn't have been so bad but I had one of those stupid memory bug where I wanted to copy an object but instead I made both variables point to the same thing... which manifested in it working perfectly without a cache (writing and reading changes to and from disk) but breaking horribly (sometimes, and not always obviously) when the cache was turned on. I spent days debugging that, and felt so stupid after finally finding it <.< (If it had been in C or C++ I would have tracked it down much faster as I'm used to horrible pointer bugs in those languages)
