The Wheel of Time 3:
A Divided Sisterhood
Image
Setup & General rules:
Spoiler:
  • Speed: approx 5-7 day Days. Approx 48 hour nights. Days will not end on weekend, (i.e. a Friday start will see a Monday finish). Deadline extensions given when needed. Lurkers will be replaced after modprod.
  • Bastardry: May include alignment or win-condition changing roles. Some hidden mechanics may be present. The mod will speak no word that is not true. What conclusions you draw from that is up to you. Unlike Aes Sedai, the mod will not deliberately try to mislead you though!
  • There are no spoiler-reading or PM-listening type roles.
  • No role is guaranteed to be sane.
  • No role may self-target or target dead players unless otherwise specified.
  • Role reveals are made the morning following death.
  • Players may not discuss what Ajah or win condition they submitted (though they can of course discuss what they actually are).
  • Players were assigned their Ajahs before alignments were determined.
  • Most, but not necessarily all, abilities are based on the chosen Ajah.
  • Some players may not be Aes Sedai.
  • Although character names were selected after alignments were determined, names are NOT alignment indicative (e.g. Siuan Sanche may be scum or town, despite being a traditionally town-aligned character in-universe).
  • All players were randomly assigned a win condition from those submitted.
  • Some win conditions have been updated or completely replaced from those submitted.
  • Players may have been assigned their original submission.
  • Win conditions have not been modified based on the alignment of the receiver.
  • Some win conditions require choices pre-game. Such choices should be made by PM to the mods at the time of confirmation.
Win Conditions and Sample Role PM:
Spoiler:
  • Sample Vanilla Role PM:
    <flavour>
You are Bella Tarabor, Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah. You have no abilities except your vote.
Primary Win Condition: You are a member of Town. You win when all threats to the Town have been eliminated, and at least one Town aligned player remains alive.

    <flavour>
Secondary Win Condition: You must survive until the end of the game.

  • You cannot play directly against your Primary Win Condition.
  • You may play against your Secondary Win Condition.
  • Your secondary win condition is entirely optional.
Voting rules:
Spoiler:
  • Votes and questions must be posted in bold and on a new line, like this:
    Vote: jimbobmacdoodle
  • You must unvote to change votes, in bold and on a new line, like this:
    Unvote
    Vote: dimochka
  • When someone gains a majority of the votes, they are automatically lynched, and daytime automatically ends whether or not the mod or a co-mod is online to declare day-end. Posting after the hammer vote is not allowed, even if the hammer-vote was accidental. If you see that a hammer vote has been placed, please delete any post you were going to post. It is ok to post simply to indicate that a hammer vote was placed.
  • If deadline is reached and no player has a majority of the votes, then the person with the most votes is lynched. If the votals are tied, then the player with the most who reached that total first will be lynched, unless all players have voted and exactly 2 people have been voted for. In that special case, there will be no lynch. If you don't understand this, please ask for clarification.
  • You can vote "No Lynch". If "No Lynch" gets the majority of the votes (or wins a tied votal), no one will be lynched.
Posting rules:
Spoiler:
  • No posting in this thread unless you are playing in it.
  • No talking about this game except in this thread or in an appropriately titled spoiler in the discussion thread.
  • No editing your posts. For any reason, at any time unless explicitly told to do so by the mod or co-mod.
  • Do not lurk! Lurkers risk being replaced.
  • You may post in thread until a hammer vote is placed or the mod or co-mod declares the day over. The mod will not declare day over until after the deadline.
  • If all players explicit say they are happy to end the day early, e.g. because of an unbreakable tie, the mod may end the day before the deadline.
  • You may not quote directly from your role PM or anything else from the mod or co-mod. Paraphrasing is fine.
  • Only use bold text for voting, unvoting, asking the mod questions or stating important information (e.g. being away for 2-3 days). FoSses and similar may also be in bold.
  • No reading spoilered posts for this game in the discussion thread.
  • Mod statements (apart from these rules) will be posted in bold.
Death rules:
Spoiler:
  • You’re alive until the mod tells you that you're dead, by PM or in thread.
  • Once you die, you may no longer post in this thread, but you may read spoilers in the discussion thread. That is your consolation prize.
  • Any exceptions to these rules will be explicitly stated in a player's role PM.
Private Message rules:
Spoiler:
  • You can ask the mod questions by PM if you'd rather not ask in thread.
  • All communications and questions to the mods should be sent to both jimbobmacdoodle and dimochka.
  • No PMing other players concerning this game unless your role specifically allows it and you CC the mod and co-mod in every communication.
  • Any chats may be either via PM or Quick Topics.
Flavour:
Spoiler:
  • Flavour will be posted in italics.
  • As lynching wasn't a particularly common thing in the Wheel of Time universe, a lynched or otherwise killed player may for purposes of flavour not be killed, but may be thrown into a dark cell, exiled, or otherwise removed from the scene of action. In any case, the mod will refer to them as being "dead" for clarity in bold.
  • Characters mentioned in flavour may not be present in the game.
  • The mod may include hints as to night actions in the flavour text, but then again may not.
  • The game is set around the time of the 6th book, and possibly onwards, depending on what happens in the game. Apologies for any unexpected spoilers!
  • All characters are real characters from the books. However, their in-game alignment may not match their in-book alignment.
  • The Wheel of Time wiki is a good source for flavour information, should you want any.
  • Feel free to ask the mods flavour-related questions about your character.

Role PMs will not be sent out until tomorrow. In the meantime, feel free to ask any rules-related questions.

Will it always be possible to tell what vote is the hammer?

Can any powers influence vote counts?

Can secondary win conditions be changed?

Night-chat or day-chat?

Does "No Lynch" have to 'win' ties by reaching the total first? Usually if NL is tied it automatically wins.

Vicarin wrote:Will it always be possible to tell what vote is the hammer?
Yes.

Vicarin wrote:Can any powers influence vote counts?
It is within the scope of the rules. No comment on whether this will actually happen.
Sabrar wrote:Can secondary win conditions be changed?
No. The mods reserve the right to make them easier, if outside circumstances make it unreasonable to achieve them, but the core goal will not change and in-game events will not change them.

Sabrar wrote:Night-chat or day-chat?

Sabrar wrote:Does "No Lynch" have to 'win' ties by reaching the total first? Usually if NL is tied it automatically wins.
No Lynch only wins ties if it reaches the tied number first, unless all players are voting in the tie.

If vote total changing powers are allowed, how can we be sure if a particular vote is the hammer or not? (In order to comply with the no posting after hammer rule)

All votes will count as normal, until a mod (or player authorised by mod) explicitly states otherwise. No further comment.

Role PMs are going to be sent out in the next 20 minutes or so.

(Except for Sabrar who has to wait an extra 12 hours... :P)

Please confirm when you have received yours. Also please remember to PM the mods any pre-game actions/choices you need to make.

Day 1: The Amyrlin Summons
Image

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

The wind blew southwards along the line of the snow-capped peaks, rustling through the tops of hardy pine trees, and ruffling the feathers of birds of prey perched in the upper branches.

Onwards it went until it reached the gleaming domes of a great city, filled with people, many of them clad in white cloaks, over the tops of suits of armour. The flowing water of a river drew the wind downstream, ruffling the sails of barges and other watercraft.

The lowlands drew the wind away back northwards once more, into a thick forest. The few remaining leaves on the trees rustled, and more fell to the ground as the cold season took further hold.

The cloaks of men hidden in the bushes were whipped up, and quickly gathered back in, as the wind entered an overgrown village. The outer buildings were all but collapsed, and the wind whistled in through holes in roofs and out through cracks in walls. As it blew further into town though, the clothing of a whole range of people was whipped up and the figures standing or walking around held firmly onto shawls and cloaks.

Egwene al’Vere, Amyrlin Seat of the White Tower in Salidar, sat at her makeshift desk of a plank of wood and two barrels, reading reports from those sent out to gather information and recruits to their cause. She looked up as a knock came at her door, and called in the visitor. Sheriam, her Keeper of the Chronicles, hurried in clutching her blue stole firmly to herself, to keep out the chill, and quickly shut the door.

Sitting down across from her leader, the Aes Sedai produced a bundle of papers. “More reports have just arrived from the Travelling parties. We’ve had another 4 recruits join, not to mention a dozen or so soldiers. And our contacts have gathered reports on Elaida’s sisters seeking to gather tribute in a number of provinces we thought were under our control already.”

“That’s nothing out of the ordinary, we’ll just have to leave them to it for now, until we have won rulers over to our side. Any report from any of our embassies yet?” replied the younger woman.

“None yet, though knowing how royal courts can get sometimes, it may take a few days to even get an initial message to the kings. And the chaos in the West makes it unlikely we’ll find out anything from there any time soon either.” Sheriam paused for a moment. “There’s something else you should be aware of. A few of our allies have mentioned that there are quiet whispers of an attempt to depose you. I don’t know where it is coming from. I was under the impression that you were controlling Romanda and Lelaine quite effectively, and I don’t see them trying anything drastic just yet.”

“Hmm… This is not particularly a surprise, but disturbing nonetheless.” Egwene thought for a moment. “It’s clear that there are likely Black Sisters among us. I’d hoped that they’d settle for calm for long enough so that we could gather our strength, but perhaps we need to make a more determined effort to root out whatever is the cause of these rumours.”

Egwene grabbed a quill from in front of her, and hurriedly noted down a series of messages, before handing them to the woman sat across from her. “Go and give these messages to the named recipients. I want them to begin work on identifying and isolating the culprits. Report back once you have news for me.”

“Yes Mother,” came the reply, as the Blue Sister stood up and placed the pieces of paper in a satchel.

Before long, a small group of figures had gathered in one of the unoccupied buildings…

Day 1 begins now. Deadline will be in approximately 5 days.

Votals:

Not voting: Everybody

With 11 alive, it takes 6 to lynch.

D1 here we go!!!!

Okay, first things first, my secondary win-con is to be targeted by many abilities on multiple nights, so please hit me with whatever you got (hopefully that will include a Doc as well :) ). Obligatory shout-out to dimochka, not PGO.

Back in the previous WoT games there weren't too many indies, so normally I would guess 8-3 or 8-2-1, however jimbob is liable to introduce a gimmick to shake things up plus he warned us about possibly alignment-changes, soooo... maybe 7-2-1-1 or some crazy 7-1-1-1? Likely not similar to WoT2 though. Eager to hear bessie's opinion on the matter.

Boring setup spec would be a coin flip between 8-3 and 7-3-1, but with the assurance of power roles a-go-go I think some of the more exotic suggestions by Sabrar are more likely (except the 7-1-1-1, that just sounds whack).

And to no-one's surprise, Sabrar manages to get the first post.

With regards to the flavour, I'm completely helpless, but the colour summaries in the signup do help for role speculation. Not sure if there's anything else helpful to say about that...

For the secondary win conditions, I don't see any great harm in sharing at least some of the information in them (though if people don't want to, whatever). Mine mostly makes me interested in one other person in particular.

Given the crazy setup that was WoT2 I'm not entirely sure what the numbers could be, but Sabrar's numbers seem not too crazy?

Sabrar sounds a little more eager than usual, which is impressive, but I could believe it being due to how long this game has taken to start :P

Vote: Madge

to spice up her normally boring D1, as compensation for drawing the short byte.

Bessie's town (as if that surprises anyone?)

More later.

Spoiler:
to spice up my boring D1, I'm roleplaying SDK this time (and without the hours of research that went into my Bessie roleplay, so think of me as a bad stand up comedian who spouts off shallow SDK stereotypes)

@Madge- If you really were RPing SDK, you'd have put a vote based off someone's confirm post at the end of that one.

bessie’s confirmation post analysis:

Madge – Borderline suspicious. Her post is an early reminder of her aversion to D1, and gives me the feeling that she is already setting up an excuse for poor D1 content (see also unspoilered Gojoe post).

Mark_Canigla – acceptable, his post is informational and contains no game content, and is lacking the emotional appeal of Madge’s post.

Everyone else – :(

Initial setup guess is 8-2-1. I will think about it and perhaps speculate on roles later.

Re Sabrar’s claim, I will need to think about this too. I would be suspicious, except that Sabrar has shown in the past that he is not particularly good at intentionally trying to get votes to activate a power. He would most likely be equally unsuccessful in intentionally trying to be targeted by night actions, so his direct appeal is perhaps somewhat understandable.

Sabrar wrote:Obligatory shout-out to dimochka, not PGO.
IIRC this is a reference to another game?

Vicarin wrote:Sabrar sounds a little more eager than usual, which is impressive, but I could believe it being due to how long this game has taken to start :P
It has been 51 days. :P But Vicarin, how is Sabrar's single short post more eager than his usual multiple P1 early posting?

Madge wrote:Bessie's town (as if that surprises anyone?)
Hmm. Yes, I remember this gambit very well. SDK in Shakespeare III mafia. And to this day I still have more unresolved annoyance and rage issues over that game, and SDK’s role in particular, than over any other game including WoT2.

I don’t participate in RSV, but I don’t like to deprive others of the early fun. Early FoS candidates: Madge, Vicarin.

I have a certain suspicion that I may be playing a miller here. My PM doesn't say this explicitly, but there is at least reason to suspect that this is so.

I have some doubts about my ability to pull off my secondary win condition. But I will try to do so…

I have a certain suspicion that there are more than one groups of anti-town in the game, but that depends on exact parsing of my PM, which could also be consistent with one group, if read a little differently than I automatically read it.

My secondary desires would do ill to the good among us.
No house divided can stand.
Only through great fortune will I achieve all my goals. But, perhaps, that is always true.

Recent thoughts turn to the strength of three.
The hand of fate must consider their design.
We seek a team of three with ill intent.
United, they are a grave threat.
But we will be afforded many.boons on our quest.

A happy dog plays, a nervous dog barks.
How unfortunate for us all that Bessie is scum.

Vote: Madge for no real reason whatsoever.

So in case Sabrar's request has something to do with his ability, I'd recommend not targeting him tonight. Unless he is using reverse psychology on us....

Irl got called in as backup at work when I initially had it off today, and I'm busy tonight too, so dont expect much from me today.

I’ve been thinking about this comment. Which of the setup spec numbers were you referring to? All of the following had been suggested at the time of your post:

8-3
8-2-1
7-2-1-1
7-1-1-1
7-3-1

Are there any other “reasonable” setups? The suggestions cover a pretty wide range of everything that would traditionally be considered reasonable. Your post makes me think that it was just something to post.

mpolo wrote:I have some doubts about my ability to pull off my secondary win condition. But I will try to do so…
Secondary win conditions are entirely optional (see second spoiler in OP).

Ninja'd.

See above. And I'm going to be suspicious of anyone with questionable content that hides behind the excuse that they are just trying to fulfill their secondary win condition.

Do you even have a dog? Hoku barks all the frickin time, and it is non indicative of his current level of happiness or nervousness.
