Unlikely Superheroes (Endgame)

Unlikely Superheroes and Improbable Supervillains

Super strength? No. Super speed? If only. Flight? Yeah, right. When it came to the superpower lottery, your ticket said "Please play again." But when the forces of evil rise up and all of the A-list superheroes are busy, who will stand against them? Will it be Flatulence Man? Hamster Woman? The Human Ham Sandwich? Heroes are needed: Who will answer the call?

Mod: LaserGuy
Speed: Day phase 6 days, 1 day night phase

Rules:

Standard Rules:
Spoiler:
1. Do not talk about the game outside of this thread, apart from a properly labeled spoiler in the discussion thread.
2. Please stay on topic at all times.
3. Lurking is frowned upon; if you need to drop out, please let me know as soon as possible. If someone feels that another player isn't contributing to game play, please make the mods aware. If replacements cannot be found, modkills will be handed out without regard to balance.
4. If you aren't part of this game, please do not post in the thread.
5. Once it is nighttime, do not post in the thread.
6. You may not quote the contents of any PM related to this game, but you can paraphrase.
7. If you have been killed in game, don't say anything for the rest of the game
8. You may not edit your posts unless explicitly told to do so by the mod (which is not in any way expected to happen).
9. You cannot ruin the game for other players.
10. You must play to achieve your current win condition.
11. Please make an effort to include the mods on all PMs. Mistakes happen but make me aware if they do.

Game specific rules (PLEASE READ):
Spoiler:
1. In general, game days will last for 6 days. Weekends will count as a single day. Extensions will only be granted in the event of a replacement if the mod deems it necessary.
2. The night phase will last for 1 day.
3. Do not lurk! One post per real-life day is the recommended minimum. Consideration will be given for weekends and holidays. If you are going to be away for an extended period, please let me know. Otherwise, you will be prodded after 48 hours of inactivity. Failure to respond to a prod within 48 hours will result in a replacement or modkill.
4. Mod posts in bold are game posts. Everything in bold you may take as true to the best of my knowledge. Posts in italics are flavor posts that tell a story. The flavor may or may not be in any way related to the current state of play.
5. This is a closed setup featuring many unusual powers.
6. No role has any hidden mechanics or abilities.
7. There are no spoiler-reading or listening roles. Once dead, players cannot be resurrected or interact with the thread in any way. Pretty much everything else is, in principle, fair game.
8. The mod will not lie or attempt to influence the game state. The mod may choose not to answer questions in order to maintain this.
9. Questions related to powers or abilities will only be answered in thread if they pertain exclusively to players whose role PMs have been revealed. I will try to answer questions of the nature “How does my role interact with a standard tracker?”; I will probably not answer questions of the nature “How does my role interact with obscure hypothetical power XYZ?” and will definitely not answer questions of the nature “How does my role interact with claimed power XYZ?”
10. MYLO and LYLO will not be announced.

Voting rules:

11. To vote for a player, please write Vote: player in bold on a separate line.
12. You may unvote a player using Unvote, but you are not required to do so to change your vote.
13. If a player secures more than 50% of the total votes, they will be hammered. The day phase will end immediately.
14. In the event of a tied vote, the result will be No Lynch. Players may choose to vote No Lynch instead of casting a normal vote. If there is a tied vote between a player and No Lynch, then it is a No Lynch.
15. The lynched player’s full role PM will be revealed at the start of the next day phase.
16. Some of the rules in this section may be modified due to certain abilities.

Spoiler:
1. Sabrar
2. bessie
3. Wam
4. moody7277
5. Peaceful Whale replaced by somitomiLynched D4

The city of Mohtag is in crisis. A crime wave has swept the city. Everything from theft to murder to parking violations is on the rise. Mayor Hossletop is at a loss.

"We need the Avengers!" he cries.

"Sorry sir, they're already on contract," replies his aide Jonah.

"The Justice League?"

"They're apparently doing a photoshoot in Bali and will be out of commission for several weeks."

"Well, get whoever you can find. We need help!"

Jonah spent the rest of the day working the phones. Eventually he assembled a team of specialists who were up to the task. The team gathered in the Mayor's office to discuss the state of the city.

"We need help," began the Mayor, "Crime is on the rise all across the city. The police can't keep up with it. We suspect that the city has been infiltrated by supervillains!"

"What can we do to help?" asked a man who looked suspiciously like a Starbucks barrista wearing a cape.

"Find the supervillains! Stop them! Put an end to their reign of terror!"

"What do they look like?" asked the woman who had walked into the room backwards and still faced the wall.

"Nobody has seen them! They could be anyone!"

"Even one of us?" asked the two-tailed Jack Russell Terrier.

Day 1 has started.

Deadline for D1 will be in just under 7 days since I don't want the day to end on a weekend. Deadline clock is here

I think posting suggestions are definitely in play for this game. As for Sabrar's RV, that's pretty much 1.e4..e5

Vote: Peaceful Whale

Emoji in his confirmation post? Almost as suspicious as an exclamation point.

There is a fine line between a Neighbourhood Watch and Vigilantism. And that is the point where you start wearing a cape.

It all started for me, decades ago, when my parents met in Vegas. It turns out they were both born directly opposite from each other on the Earth!
That mystical triangle encompassed a vast portion of the planet's energies, and it all focused down near me throughout my childhood.
I've been very fortunate that the physical deformities imposed by it are minimal (although of course primary school was rough), and off-color skin is well worth it for my triple-digit IQ.

If there is trouble in town, Mr Mayor, I'll be there!

Hey! Past results are not indicative of future performance. It is highly unlikely to be a murderhobo 100% of the time.

I'm town in exactly half the games I've played, so I suppose my meta is bad, but that's no reason to vote me unless you're scum yourself.

No concrete setup info for me to simulate makes me sad :(.

Setups that are most likely seem to be 8-3, 8-2-1, and 7-2-2, but hard to tell with sufficiently weird powers.

Night seems kind of short, might require daychat for scum to have time to co-ordinate.

Oh hoho! Look who comes crawling back. Now you see what it's like to play "normal" "non-BoomFrog" games. Well let that be a lesson to you. I should just not do a gambit just to spite you.

I'm just here to bulk out the number of players. Someone has to get mislynched D1, and this will let me get my analysis out of the way first thing.

I don’t disagree with your evaluation of wam. However, Madge had done absolutely nothing to justify a town read. She hasn’t even posted. FoS Sabrar.

Peaceful Whale’s confirmation post is acceptable (as is everyone else’s). It contains no game content. Peaceful Whale’s letting us know his RL time constraints is for information purposes, and not an pre-excuse for scummy content and an emotional appeal for special consideration. FoS moody.

SuicideJunkie wrote:It is highly unlikely to be a murderhobo 100% of the time.
freezeblade, you want to weigh in on this one?

See also: Laserguy’s first three games. Oh and his fifth. FoS SuicideJunkie.

You are going waaaay overboard in explaining the joke. I know you don't do the RVS thing, but you can let those of us who do enjoy our nasty little habit in peace

Who’s joking? I am totally serious about confirmation post analysis. wam’s confirmation post was the reason I suspected him in Brooklyn 99. More examples upon request, this was the first one that came to mind. FoS on moody remains.

Hi all, don't feel like doing the whole RVS. I also don't usually get anything out of confirmation posts, so I'll let bessie do her thing.

@vicarin - why not 7-2-1-1?

@sabrar - curious if that's an actual posting restriction/recommendation or you having fun. I guess TBD.

I think @moody might have an actual restriction, not that it really changes thing. And I just spent way too long reading about those chess moves (apparently that combination is a "Vienna Game"? it's been a while since I played)... mostly trying to figure out if the likelihood / perceived "smartness" of the move is correlated with something. Probably not. I also don't think his confirmation post tells me much, at least yet.

Other thoughts to be added soon but waiting for the rest of y'all to post. Missing wam, peaceful whale (post d1 start), and freezeblade.

SuicideJunkie's reaction to a random vote is too defensive, FoS there.
I don't like Vicarin preemptively asking BoomFrog to gambit, it takes away the reason for the whole thing by drawing attention to it and denying any legitimate reactions. IGMEOY
Consequently BoomFrog's reasoning is clearly false, he's not the type to just resign themselves to a mislynch D1. I'm not a fan of the self-vote though it's unlikely to cause harm.
bessie's stubornness for doing conf-post analysis is well known (though not alignment-indicative) but I think moody implied that he was the one joking and bessie just misunderstood it (as she's wont to do).
I'm still thinking about setup.

PS: 1.e4 c5 or just simply 1.d4 is way more common nowadays, 1.e4 e5 is a beginner's opening and I resent the comparison.

@Sabrar: maybe I just wanted to see BoomFrog's reaction to it myself? While self-voting is somewhat interesting in RVS, I'd be surprised if anyone was going to take what he said there too seriously.

Didn't know we were going to have elitism over Chess openings as well, 1.e4 e5 is perfectly fine.

It would have been more useful to let BoomFrog do a genuine gambit and look at the reactions and his conclusions from it later. Poking at BoomFrog might give you a read on him but at the expense of more information.

Totally on point with this interpretation of events, for my part anyway. It also lends a more townie slant on bessie's reactions as well. As for the King's pawn opening, it was the first thing I thought of in terms of standard first moves. It was no comment on Sabrar. With the group described in the flavor, I am by no means a Chess Master, more like a guy who is middling good, may have won a local tournament, but would still get his butt handed to him by Bobby Fischer while Bobby was playing 12 other people.

I think 7-3-1 is a very likely setup, 8-2-1 next most likely. I feel the game size means there is someone who is taking advatage of the conflict for their own selfish purposes.

Ok, I'm not the only one, then.

I presume everybody has some power, even if it is just "common sense", but I have some doubts that there is anybody vanilla enough to not have downsides.

Uck, well the second most interesting thing about this game are the weird powers, but talking about them is a very easy way to reveal too much about our roles. And we can only get so far talking about how great it is to be playing with BoomFrog again.

Everyone doing setup spec is being very vague and casual about it, which is useless. Put some real thought into it. If you were going to bet on one specific setup, what would it be and why? If there's an Indy what do you think the Indy will be?

Mine is 8-3 and I'll explain why after others.

I agree with 8-3.

Logic is that laser really wanted 11 players and this is the only setup that wouldn't be fixable for less.

Try not to leak hints at your power unless you have a specific reason in mind why it is useful to do so. And yes, based on just the example in the OP, everyone probably has at least a token power. But I expect there is variance ranging from actual useful to more hindrance then help.

This makes sense though I think 3 scum would be too powerful if our abilities have the same power-level as the example given by the mod.

Well, there is at least one situation where the power would actually be useful and you seem to be a good fit for that.

Miller... or scum with an ability that makes it so you can't be seen as scum

or even scum that can be seen as scum, but you want whoever has an investigating power to think that it would be wasted on you.

Can you clarify what one would get? Perhaps you are an independent role instead of a true Miller. Maybe your goal is to NKed, or be the last survivor. I think that (!scum && !town) != town. It more than likely == independent.

Something feels off about you coming straight out as a Miller like person. Are you town? Are you and indie? Why are you not going to say more at this stage?

BTW: I am vanilla town [*] with a twist [*].
