Ohhhh! I finally understand the meaning of the comic!

It's GLR's tribute to the American TV series "How I Met Your Mother". Marshal and Lily's baby's middle name is... wait for it:
Spoiler:
wait for it.
What's the baby's name?
Wait for it.
Wait for it?
Yes
Yes what?
Wait for it
Wait for what?
Not wait for what, wait for it.
Wait for it?
Yep...

(tomato pasting the series, I guess...)

Almost done ketchupping...

Just thought I'd chime in one this:

Zorin_75 wrote:

40q, if you consider the stitching a valid representation (two very incomplete trees in the last frames, definitely not neat).
pano.png

I don't know how the q were measured in this picture, but if it is 40q from the lowest point of elevation in this panorama, then it is <40q since leaving the river, because things like the Baobabs and the vineyard are still alongside the river. They don't depart from being next to (or at least very close to) the river until the campsite when they decide to leave it to pursue the mountains (at least that's what the comic implies from the end of the Third River Period until Questioning the Quest at the Abandoned Habitation, and further supported that it takes less time for Cueball to get water from the river than for Megan to walk 2 frames back to the vineyard for food--suggesting a very small distance from the abandoned residence to the river). So, the real elevation gain since leaving the river will be whatever is from the vineyard/abandoned residence area to their current elevation, whatever that is.
In Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high and 100 miles wide. Once every 1000 years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. One time, I changed just the last sentence of this signature, and lots of you noticed. Image

As promised on the previous page, here is The Last Time Waiter, chapter 4: The Engineer, part 2:

Spoiler:
The Engineer wrote:I've called all of you here because, effective immediately, we are going to redirect all our efforts to a new project, dubbed Mar Mojot. Mar Mojot's objective is to develop a fully autonomous, human-like intelligence, capable of self-diagnostic and self-repair, as well as a equally maintainable support body. The expected lifetime for project Mar Mojot is, well… as long as we can make it.

a young, red haired female human wrote:This will require research on areas we never ventured into, and we have so many good projects going on already… I don't know if it's worth the risk.

The Engineer wrote:You will never see the light if you refuse to leave shade, Khayla. We could, yes, refuse this proposal, but I'm not called the Engineer of Eternity without reason. They need me. They need us.

Khayla lowered her head, disappointment and sadness irradiating from her eyes.
The Engineer wrote:I know how important your projects are to you. And I promise you, we'll find a way to keep them going. Together.

She looked to the Engineer. Her smile was everything he needed.
Khayla wrote:Thank you.

O'Connor wrote:With this solved, does anyone have any other objections?

The silence was terrifying.
The Engineer wrote:I'll take that as a no. Khayla, Theresa, James, you'll stay. All the others are dismissed.

O'Connor gave BlitzGirl an affirmative glance, after which she turned to her peers. She was smiling as never before.

Question: why does a dragonnot yet machine supposed to observe and understand a phenomena (i.e. Time) need a hyper-velocity plasma-firing cannon? What did you have in mind, BlitzGirl?

Sweet sassy molassy! I'm finally caught up! It feels good to be present in the present again. :P

To BlitzGirl, ucim, k.bookbinder, and vvn (via private message) [hope I didn't miss anyone!]: Thanks for the wonderful encouragement, reassurance, and the official appointment. :) It dawned on me after posting that partingLance might have been talking about eras for the THREAD instead, as y'all have now confirmed for me. I must apologize for that rather mopey, whiny post to begin with. I'm afraid the last 2 dix, while I've been gone from the OTT, have been particularly stressful on the Outside, and I was in kind of a grumpy mood. Y'all have helped cheer me back up, and for that I am grateful. :)

Oh, and BlitzGirl: Absolutely agree on the name "Wowterfall Period." :) Will be doing some updating and maintenance tonight.

Btw, and I kid you not, I was eating pizza while I read the parts about pizza when ketching-up. (IAR!)

Now, as per our PagePope's request, some poetry for y'all--a limmerick:

There once was a Thread, One and True
Each dayH checked by me and by you
It followed Megball
Up the Mountains so tall
And I'm not very good at writing limmericks...

HHeretical

So, uh, to make up for the bad poetry... Have some pizza and a wowterfall cake (sorry, the pics are rather seaish!):

Poetry? It doesn't have to be original, does it?
Because I've got some favorites from ages ago:

A thousand hairy savages
Sitting down to lunch
Gobble, gobble,
Glup, glup,
Munch, munch, munch

and:
There were three ghostesses
Sitting on postesses
Eating buttered toastesses
And greasing their wristesses
Right up to their fistesses.

also:
Apatosaurus, hadrodaurus, stegosaurus too
All went out to dinner at the dinosaur zoo
Along came the waiter named Tyrannosaurus rex -
Gobbled up the table 'cause they wouldn't pay their checks

Hope I'm still on the right page...

Edited to add: fhorn requested ‘Beer! Cupcakes’ as well; I don't have a recipe for that, but I've got a good one for champagne cake, would that do?

There was an odd spot on a tree
That some thought was a sneaky molpy.
I made sure to keep track,
But since Cuegan came back
It has not moved from what I can see.

There was a cute beagle named Snoopy
White with black ears that were droopy
Laid on the ground flat
But I gave him a hat
And now he's not feeling so loopy

Glad you're with us still, kenmelken, reassured and encouraged; and perhaps I too should apologize, for failure to credit you before. I was inspired by your work on the OTC, though daunted by the idea of doing the same for the OTT, and so have preferred to stick to discrete events and turning points (whether the OTT has actually turned at all, or any of them is not for me to judge).

For the moment, though, I have to say I've found great significance in NP 61. "Newpix" had already been coined, but in that one page, we99 had the beginnings of a discussion of whether "newpix" should be the plural and "newpic" the singular; consideration of whether "newpix" should be subdivided according to SI; a dismissal, as impractical, of "days" as a unit of time (at that point in Time, a "day" would last approximately 46 2/3 newpix); the rejoinder that "days" were a throwback to the "godless" people of ancient Mesopotamia, who "existed in the days before Randall and importantly, the rise of the great Time"; and finally, what I believe to be the first use of "Outside," capitalized like that, to refer to... well, to the Outside.

In short: NP 61 saw, in my opinion, the foundations of what became the OTR. Truly, a pagina novus mirabilis, was old sixty-one.

99 I'm being presumptuous there in saying "we," as I myself didn't even discover the OTT for another 100 NP, exactly.

There's no newpage as newpage-y
As Newpage Sixty-One
We One-dered 'bout a "newpix"
How should one refer to one?
We parried for a fewpix
But when all was said and done
In the debate for how we view pix
"Newpix" has surely one

I am very much interested in seeing the results of your labor, and to witness who coined what and how. Not for the sake of bragging credit, but to witness the progression of our unique OTT dialect, and how these terms sorted themselves out (often quite naturally) from first use (such as the "proper" use of newpix - which seems to have standardized itself as it was used). Perhaps, such dialectical studies might even get my wife interested. She shall see, then, that we are not all nuts. Well, OK, perhaps we are. But you all know what I mean, I'm sure.

Before I coma, it occurs to me, that, whilst we have posted pizza, and cake, and ketchup, and even several pizza cakes, not one of us has yet to post pizza (or cake) with ketchup on it. Surely, somewhere, there must be pizza with ketchup on it.

Wow. BlitzGirl is taking the poetry commandment for the page to an epic level. In commemoration, I am going to be the latest bandwagon-joiner of all time and present my first double dactyl:

Sweet sassy MO-lassy
BlitzGirl's great poetry
Made us amazed with its
Wit many times.

f-horn the PagePope with
Meg'lomaniacal
Papal authority
Ordered the rhymes

(and @k.bookbinder: you're one of the coolest. :) )

EDIT: @fhorn: I don't actually think you are megalomanical, but it worked so well in the double dactyl...
In Svithjod, there stands a rock. It is 100 miles high and 100 miles wide. Once every 1000 years a little bird comes to this rock to sharpen its beak. One time, I changed just the last sentence of this signature, and lots of you noticed. Image

ttscp, what about the golden mean/golden ratio? It's been found in art, achitecture, music and literature.... why not the OTC?

Well, that 'learned discussion' has just proved so much BS, since Cuegan is talking about going further up the mountain. This is what happens when you try to write your Master's ThesisE before the OTC ends. I'll see if I can save the analysis, wish me luck.

But, to answer your question, you'd think, me being a math-major and all, that I'd use the golden mean, but it never occurred to me. As far as I know, the golden mean is primarily visual. I did a quick search (not exhaustive) and came up with many examples of visual works, a few examples of musical works, but nothing literary. The ratio of the horizontal to vertical sides of the OTC is 1.4 (553 by 395 pixels), which is close to the golden 1.618..., but not quite.

I like the answers above better than my own prosaic one. I get the phrase from drama. Wikipedia says it's due to an analysis by Freytag. I'm not that deep. I was thinking of the triangle (the Wikipedia article calls it a pyramid) and how it rises to a midpoint where the story turns. I got carried away by idea that the mountains Cuegan are climbing could represent that.

E Master's Thesis is an overinflated description for what I'm doing. On the other hand, maybe we should establish a College of the One True Thread. We can have degree programs in geology, geography, poetry, data crunching, pixel analysis, molpy biology, and lots of others. I hereby nominate charlie_grumbles for Dean.

If with a Thu'um his enemies, defeated
Three words're all it takes
A powerful blast it makes
And with an Amulet of Talos, oft repeated

Blind posting. Been away for the wipend and missed the OTC/OTT greatly. [weepy moment inc:] You are all a part of my life and have been for almost 3 months. I love you all! [/end weepy stuff] I did ketchup about 5 NPs that I'd missed before I went away, but didn't reply.

I was able to see a few things, such as Megan facing the camera then disappearing. Her excitedly (and rather quickly as far as the OTC goes) telling Cue to get his ass up and come look. Several fora members "calling it" that there would be a waterfall. And indeed another wow moment with the waterfall reveal. That zoom-out was the last image of the OTC I've seen and I've been dying to see more, but alas - only had this one moment to say hi.

Guess the first half of [heresy] work [/heresy] tomorrow will be spent condimenting.

Off to coma. <3

(add: hit reply and saw a bunch of poetry pop up! can't wait to get to the presenttttttt!!!! *wiggle*)

ETA: A cupcake. Since the popey pope popish pope fhorn also declared that as something to see on NP814.
Spoiler:
Since I'm still in the past, here's a waterfall cupcake:

Now I'm suddenly getting the urge to filk "Highway Sixty-One Revisited". Hmmm...

While working on the updated first instalment (to NP 50), I was listening to a radio interview with Temple Grandin, who insists that there's no particular bright line between autism and "normality" -- that "many people who program computers, and who keep the power stations running," and so forth, who can concentrate intensely on detailed and repetitive work, have something in common with those diagnosed with Asperger's.

Later, I heard a linguist and author talk about the effect the Internet has had on language. What struck me in particular was his discussion of how, nowadays, made-up words can gain a currency they never could have previously.

Sigh. What can I say? Verily, it IS all related.

It is absurd to remark that there is something that you can't imagine being the cause of something you aren't aware has happened.

If you think that's bad, just wait until some OtherPersonInThe OTC explains to them how the giant canyons in the Western USA were pretty much carved in a couple days after a humungous ice-dam broke and spilled a great-lake-sized volume of water all at once. None of this "little river wears a spec of rock each day" stuff for us cowboys!

Some of my favorite pizza combos:
-- spinach and eggplant
-- sausage and mushroom
-- white sauce and cheese and popcorn shrimp
-- buffalo chicken

Something never to have on a pizza:
Beef

Really? I have had hamburger (meaning ground beef) on a pizza before. And just last night, one of the pizzas my family ordered had sliced meatballs.

I've been tempted by many beef toppings and the result has always been a very boring pizza - minced beef (possibly could become bearable with chillies in it) , viande de grison, tagliata di manzo, ... nothing works.

=( The maintenance and organization of such eras and such has largely felt like my only real contribution here. Perhaps if those services are not actually in demand, I should forfeit my own WikiQuest? I knew it was not the most exciting stuff, and certainly was never hailed or trumpeted as is partingLance's new quest, but I guess I hoped it in some way contributed value to the preservation and maintenance of the wiki's recording of the OTC's history and overall story arc and divisions.

*sigh* Perhaps this has been discussed at greater length in the 7 NPs since that post. I guess I shall soon know as I blitz through them to ketchup again.

Keep on with it Kenmel. You should consider the initial enthusiasm which greeted your project as a perpetual indication of its worth. What would the Tread be without obsessive attention to detail?
