You need to get your eyes checked.

It is obviously ultramarine.

And can I subscribe to your newsletter?

Oh Cueball. :P I do suppose the rising Sea1 has skewed his notion of "sea level".

And yes, that's my Mopey Mome smiley, to avoid having to say it every time I land at the top of a newpage.

They are not scientists, nor are they Adam & Eve. I say they mean facebug as in the class of bugs that tend to land on ones face. So, a molpysquito and a beesnake are both facebugs. Beesnake is what we saw, though. :)

ucim wrote:Tropes are not cliches. Cliches are trite - that is their defining charactaristic. Tropes can become cliche, but not all tropes are. Think of them more as archtypes for story elements (of any kind).

No fight here, just noting that I said "like" them, not "are" them. As you say in sentence 3, they can become cliches, which puts them in a related family. Cliche is the overuse of a trope, sure. But the point was people know cliche and not trope (as was my knowledge base, long ago), and that was how it is best to explain the realm of tropes is through that comparison. Though, yeah, I was originally bringing up a wholly unrelated topic: vocab, lexicon, whatever it is. I probably should have tried looking it up to get a clearer definition.

I'm hoping to see STID tonight at the drive-in (if I can stay awake)! IM3 was okay, but I found it odd that it was Xmas in May/June! :(

Well, the oddly timed Christmas won't be weird to me, at least. Our TV seasons air in the middle of the year, with Christmas in the middle of the break between seasons, so it's kind of traditional for a US show to have Christmas at the wrong time of year.
I think it'd be more enjoyable knowing this ahead of time. I'm easily distracted by such inconsequential things. P.S. STID was pretty good, but felt a bit more cliched, less heart-pumping than the first one. Drive-in was pretty fun. So sleepy and sick today, though.

Where's your drive-in? (I mean just generally - I'm not stalking you). I'm a big fan of them, and it's been a long time. I just like to hear that they're still alive and kicking. Does it still project film or have drive-ins gone digital too?

Except instead of 50-100μm, the slices seem to be around 0.5-1q thick.

It's Time for my first non-Adventure Time Filk*!
The Wait (The Weight)

I logged in the OTT, I just felt like checking the thread.
I need to coma soon; let hallucinations fill my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and showed me sand, and "Ong", was all he said.

(Chorus:)
Take a reload Waiters, reload the page for me;
Take a Reload Waiters, And (and) (and) put the newpix on the OTT!
Spoiler:
They'd picked up their bags, And went walking 'long the (big) seaside
When I saw Megan and Cueball were walkin' side by side.
I said, "Hey, Megan, come on, leave this bald fool"
She said, "He's pretty lame, but his amoeba's pretty cool"

(Chorus)

Hush now, you heretic, or 'suffer' for your crime.
It's just ol' Charles, and He's waitin' on the End of Time.
"Well, Charles, my friend, what about young La Petite?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son: check if La Petite is Minim secretly!"

(Chorus)

A molpy hunter followed me, and he caught me in his net
He said, "Oh my Randall, you're the biggest one I've seen yet"
I said, "Wait a minute, M-Scha, on the Outside I'm a man"
He said, "you're in here now boy, I'm-a have to check you're wingspan."

(Chorus)

I gotta coma, now, so I don't lose my mind
I'll ketchup tomorrow morn, so I don't get left behind.
Send thanks to old Randall, I hope he doesn't quit,
He's kept me here so long with his words:
Wait for it.
I made my avatar, Buffygirl hatted it, Yappo smileyed it and ggh taroted it!

So, for Ace (and I suppose for some other people, sometimes for different reasons) sex is like chocolate, which means… semencoffeecancerbabiesonice is just iced mocha with cancerbabies.

Now I have 'By a Waterfall' in my head, which until now I thought was by Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, but turns out to be a 1933 song with music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Irving Kahal with a video featuring synchronised swimming. Filk would simply be a matter of replacing whippoorwill with molpychirp or similar.

Thank you, Megan, for correcting Cueball. If the River2 were all one level, it would have no reason to go anywhere, and would probably just act like a long, skinny Sea1.

I don't know when cake and chocolate entered the OTT lore, but can we please have an alternative? Some of us can't (or don't want to) eat that stuff. :)

However, everyone loves pizza.

Hey, I'm back! :D I had more quotes and comments prepared, but I can't figure out what I was going to say based on the notes I left behind. Well, here's what I do have.

Spoiler:
Cuegan passed a section of Time jumping on the dunes. We had a fall from Megan, but Cueball didn't see. After all that I saw something new and exiting. A birdflying dinosaur! Unfortunately it just flew by. :(

As are many IT pros. I wonder whether it is because the cost of backup hits our own hip pockets, or if it's the time factor (I spent 3 days fixing Bob's backups, now I really should do my own but I can't be bothered). Heck I tell my SO to backup _our_ data rather than take the action myself!

And this is extremely relevant to the OTT on the basis that we have already experienced irrecoverable data loss (e.g. frame #0).

I don't think there is a frame 0. What we lost was the hash of frame 1. Fortunately, someone had downloaded the image, so that's what we see in the Book of Auburn. Not long ago I saw these events with my own eyes when started my blitz.

ChronosDragon wrote:Outsider time units used to avoid confusion between Inside time and Outside time, both of which could be measured in newpix but generally reserved for Outside time.

The way I've thought of it is that there are three ways to measure time: outside time, inside time and newpix time. Outside time is the time that passes outside and is measured in outside units. Inside time is the that passes inside of Time. Newpix time is sort of in-between the two. It is what we are measuring when we use newpix.

Non-heretical chocolate for guessing the location

I'd say: Third Journey Period, covering the part of the river3 from np 1097 to np 1121.

See? It's ALL related. Not connected, as some heretics have been proclaiming. Related.

ETA: My art commission is done (I won't get it until Tuesday xkcdDay1.5 or Wednesday xkcdDay2, however) and it looks neater than I expected. To celebrate, expect a new chapter of The Last Time Waiter in a few hours.

@AluisioASG: Love the bumper sticker! Wouldn't it be wonderful if all red lights were replaced by a lighted sign like that?

What fun is that? (Although the best way to describe what "trope" means is to send them to... that website. Mwahahahaha!)

mscha wrote:-------- <- another double post preventor. (Still not sure why this is better than a double post.)

Well, we gotta have standards!

There are good arguments either way, and (IMHO) neither method is inherently worse. Similarly the question of whether a post should be editable could also easily go either way. However, once one method is chosen, this creates expectations in the reader, and reading is smoother if the agreed-upon standard is mostly adhered to. (I will also note that there are good arguments for not choosing, but that is not a choice we got to make.)

Posts here come with quite a bit of overhead: the header, the icons, the signature, the sidebar statistics, and they occupy space and slow down the reading. So, consider it a form of organic data compression. :)

Does Megan actually know this? I don't remember her taking any measurements. However, I do agree that it is likely, and probably supported by their own in-universe experience. So, Cueball has not been clever enough to make the inference, and Megan has.

No surprise here.

@ergman: Nice filk on The Weight! I like listening to it while reading the words; I know the tune (at least the refrain!), but not well enough to just do it in my head. I'm not sure I understand the words to the original, but I really like the words to the filk.

Me too. In fact, I do that when I see empty space too. On this thread, you never know - somebody might say boobies!

Fighting with the game to get detail sprites (little tufts of grass, etc) to show up, right now. I've done everything exactly how it's supposed to be, and they're not appearing on the ground in the map, it's quite infuriating. Trying to eliminate some of the variables to see if they work in portal 2 at all. If not, we might have to do this in portal 1 or perhaps half life 2.

If we ditch portal 2 (for this part, at least) it means it can be distributed free to people who don't own the game, as the core assets are free with Tf2

Okay, new development: it does work in portal 2, BUT...the sprites don't render if a portal is onscreen. Which, obviously, presents some issues. I think portal 1 didn't have that problem, but I'd have to check.
