If they want to understand everything, then it's going to be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very long comic.

That was probably around the time of the Fading. That's when I finally de-lurked, and a lot of others did as well. With the comic (apparently) coming to an end, along with BlitzGirl catching up to the present and a few posters returning from long comas, it was an exciting Time.

So I went back to close the IMDb tab I had open (to check the quote in my last post) and the next two quotes were:

Caine: Is it good to seek the past, Master Po? Does it not rob the present?
Master Po: If a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present. But if a man ignores the past, he may rob the future.
The seeds of our destiny are nurtured by the roots of our past.

{and}

Caine: I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions.

Thank you. The spike loosely correlates with the end of the fading. Lots of people delurked, just in case Time would end.

For your second question, there is - of course, after all this IS the OTT - an answer. (I just can't find the link to the user charts anymore, thought it was at Kieryns site, but wasn't.)

It seems like they may be characters in a game.

Maybe they have to discover all the rules of the game environment before they can return to the castle to continue with that task, whatever it is.

I guess both of you are right, people feeling like it would end is a big trigger. I remember when we got exited for the first bit of dialog, or when le pettite appeared, but some how the feeling of it ending is different, Like we where part of something magical and something that is never going to repeat (may be that just me).
That is an interesting list, around half of the posters here only have 1 or 2 posts, I guess it should not surprise me, when i registered here I went years between posts, until this tread. Hopefully some of you will stick around to other parts of the fora.
My prediction.. this is going to go for a year... and even in the low days like around Christmas or other holidays we are going to see every newpix posted a few minutes after is published.

It also occurred to me, although I know it's been kinda-sorta brought up already, that the OTC is channeling Hunger Games just a bit. Book Two, I think, with the water-heavy environment? I don't know why M&C would build a sandcastle under such circumstances, but it's entirely possible (given Panem's level of technological advancement) that the material wasn't sand at all, but a sort of much stronger sand. The castle would be a lookout post. Must've been one heck of a silver parachute to provide all those building materials, though. That part I still don't get. But not knowing how anything works... having physics not work quite as expected (anyone remember the forcefield at the edge of the Games environment that decided a match?)... being short on supplies... all consistent with the Games.

Some kind of stronger version of sand would make sense. I know it's a comic, and in cartoon-land the laws of physics are flexible, but that rightmost tower stood up much longer than it should have, with the sea1 eating away at the bottom like that. And some of those sticky-out towers on the topmost castle would never have stayed on in an outside-world sandcastle.

So was the point of Time to generate longer thread? Are we just another subjects of Randall's experiment? Will the Time end when the OTT reaches page 547? (Just 31 pages remaining! And we didn't even start in 2004!) Is flow of Time considered as perpetual motion?

That must be it! Randall the Omniscient only created the OTC in order to spark the OTT, in an attempt to create a perpetual motion device! That is the true purpose!

Walking down the river (which is small), it only gets wider. Walking up the river, they may come to a place they can cross it and continue their exploration to the right, along the sea (which is big.)

Naah, the last thing we need is a Star Wars reference :P .

Also: I'm thrilled to see one of my posts got a direct response from you. I'm honored to be noticed by such select company!

We could always go Oedipal with it, I suppose...

Of course, the instant Cueball says, "I AM YOUR FATHER" then we're back to the Star Wars again...

Sorry, the debate is already settled. They found me.

And while we're on the subject of "Ford" being a fairly uncommon name, I just found out that there is another "Ford" at the company I work for. Except that is his first name. Too bad his last name isn't "Steven"; that would make it somewhat noteworthy.

Too bad his last name isn't Prefect.
EDIT: oh nevermind. Ninja'd.

How often does he update those counts? It still has me at 28.

Last update was 2013-05-01 02:00 UTC.

Any way we could get it to parse once every 24 newpix?

It ain't that easy. I've been filling my own database with scraped forum pages but there are two main obstacles:
  1. You have to test for the postings since the last update - which can be none or any arbitrary number. (Well not really any, but a rather large one.) This could be automated by passing login information, but that requires some programming effort or by brute forcing it and hammering the server. I don't think Kieryn has opted for one of both options and instead goes for a manual update. (I do this too.)
  2. There is always the problem with the moderated first posts. To catch them I deliberatly lag behind about 500 to 1000 posts to let the mods approve posts from new users instead of rescraping all pages.

When we have our union (rather than re-union, since it will be the first one), someone should rent a recording studio or something! I'm specifically thinking of creations that involve a group/crowd of speakers/singers, such as the Bohemian Rhapsody one and the Litany.

A poll has thusly been created!
http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5183e6c1e4b07663c9e7ef1b

Except such a poll would still not provide the incontrovertible proof jovialbard hopes for. I mean, with two options we either predict correctly or incorrectly. And Lord Randall, whether or not he reads/follows the thread, can choose as he pleases. It would just come down to chance, not anything with any power to prove.

However if the next frame has them looking at us and saying "What do you Think?", then we'll know.

Or alternatively, if Cueball turns to Megan and makes a dumb joke about perhaps finding a Chevy instead of a Ford. To which she responds "Or maybe a Mini-Cooper?"

That would be definitive proof.

If Cueball tried to make a joke, the poor lad's head would explode.
Is there anything else they could find which would prove something?

Install the TamperMonkey app, it will display a button. Then you just select "add script" and paste the script in there.
There may be easier solutions, but I'm not using Chrome so I don't know of them.

Just think how much work you do outside work time - the problem solved while in the shower, the letter composed on the bus. It'll be quite ok.

Oh right. Then I think starting from Monday I'll do nothing but read this thread and improve the script during my work Time, and administrate my servers by staying several hours in the shower at night. Sounds good!

Yeah, I wanted to say that this morning but I ran out of Time. Just add the seconds in your date format¹ and it will be more accurate. The script doesn't need to be changed.

Now this is fun, we can check if the ONG had a good timing with the NewPix translation :)

This usage can also benefit from the seconds in the date format. And you can twerk the script to show more decimals if you want to (line 14, with Firefox the script will be in your Mozilla folder: mozilla/firefox/<profile>/gm_scripts/Newpix_convertor/newpix-convertor.user.js).

I'd be more worried about whether it worries the Inquisition, if I were you. A second One True X sounds rather heretical. Unless you're one of those Paradox types, of course, in which case it is de rigueur, I'm sure.

I would not suggest this normally, but we are a quite nerdy lot here, so:
There are BBcode Plugins for vim (sorry no links, just google it, there are just too many) and Sublime Text 2.

Oh, another vim user! \o/ Hi! \o/
Another Firefox plugin that can be useful: "It's all text". With that one you can open a separate editor² to write into any <textarea>. So you can have to OTT and your editor displayed at the same time, use your editor's functions³, and when you save the file the text area is updated.

¹ on this page, change the format to "D M d, Y g:i:s a e" (adding the ":s").
² let's say vim
³ such as the awesome vim commands

Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

What browser do you use? I think that the forum itself has messed with some of my posts (resetting them to their original quote only). My browser (Firefox, yup) has recovered pretty gracefully from a shutdown, keeping my written post when I came back. Though, the last time it did get messed up, but I think that was a settings issue.
