People! Isn't it obvious? Who else would be qualified, nay, revered, as the leader of divided peoples? Who else could be so awesome as to know both english, beanish, and squaron? Who else could sport such an awe-inspiring beard?? There is only one answer:

Image

Abraham Lincoln: King of Mars.

The translator theory makes a lot of sense. How they forgot about speech bubbles is a mystery to me, though. Squarese better be easier to translate than Trianglican. I'm voting on the big guy being Black Hat. If it's a programming language, that'd be absolutely awesome. I've been waiting for there to be a connection to the current outside.

Beardo (nice name) as a translator makes sense to me. He lives at the wedding cake and can speak many languages.

I do wish that the Beanie had added a third triangle for the Beanie Bunch, because the lack of uniformity in the quantities of the little shapes makes me think there is something else to be deduced from them...

Sounds like a much more reasonable explanation than what I came up with.

HAL9000 wrote:Perhaps the newly drawn figure is revered by them as a god. The circle-lines by M&C signify them as "circle people," the triangles by Ted, Fred, and Ned signify them as "triangle people," and there are some other as yet unseen "square people," and the Beanies think of this person as worthy of rule over all three groups? I don't know. Probably wrong. The fact that the new guy is drawn larger and in full means something though.
ETA: I am a subscriber to the translator theory, it having popped up in the preview window when I hit "submit" on this post.

I had a thought/theory earlier today. As they seem to be explaining what WILL be happening, could they be from the future and know what's coming up?

Would also be a possible explanation for them knowing about the rising sea.

Ahhh scratch that, if they were from the future, they would have had future understanding of English and been able to converse with Smegball.

Rule110 wrote:A related question once came up on a science-and-religion forum I post on, when someone suggested that if Noah's Flood really covered the earth deep enough to submerge Mount Everest, then Noah's Ark would be floating so high off the ground that all the animals and people on it would suffocate! It's an interesting notion, but the consensus was that there would be near-normal sea level air pressure at the surface of the flood waters. (Where that much water could come from or drain away to remains a difficult problem though...)
The simple answer is that Mount Everest and its ilk were formed in the final stages of the flood (there was a LOT of tectonic activity going on) so the highest mountains at the time of submersion were not nearly so high.

I do like the translation idea; my first thought was "you go that way we go this way" because of the arrows, but not the circles. So, puzzlement. But that's what the OTA wanted, so His will be done. :)

I can't account for the exact numbers (two versus three), but showing a plurality of them for each side makes sense. One triangle and one circle would merely suggest different utterances. Multiples of each suggest that the shapes represent entire languages.

Of course, it would have been easier for us to understand if the stick figures in the comic had mouths (the lines could then be connected to the mouth specifically), and/or if the Beanies had used our familiar word balloons. But the conventions of word balloons are recent (look at newspaper editorial cartoons from a few hundred years ago) and unlikely to persist unchanged for thousands of years.

I'm a longtime lurker and rare poster from the early days of the OTC.
Anyway, I wrote a brief and rough analysis of "Time" for my blog, from the point of view of "Time" as an unconventional film. Is it appropriate/permissible to post a link to it here on the forum? Or more importantly, would anyone be interested in it?
