Well, that answers an early question - Megan has never actually seen a life-sized castle before to base the Sandcastle on.

Third layer may be the city wall they went through earlier. If you expand it out and assume that it runs outside of the little town and fields we saw, it could fit.

When is the OTC set?

The castle seems to be under construction. The highest level tech Cuegan has shown is a trebuchet. This suggests the medieval period. OTOH, the beanie's theodolites weren't invented until the late 16thC, and perfected (along with the surveying technique shown) in the late 18th. On the gripping had, the language Cuegan uses, and their behaviour towards each other are thoroughly modern.

Why do people apparently living in tents, in an area they are unfamiliar with, drag around a 20 foot ladder?

These things bug me.

We weren't talking about the overall size but about the size of those - I finally found the correct term - battlements. They seem too big. Well those on the tower and in the left corner are fine, just those two between look oversized. But who knows, it's hard to tell what's human size in this zoom-out.
ETA: Well, the last picture on the wiki features also quite big battlements. So maybe it's just me, I'm more used to the smaller ones.

Not scaffolding, Gurters, structural lattice. They have built it and are going to put up the facade. It's a 20th century building technique, so these folks are pretty "advanced"

I think there IS an island, or at least more land, which is the squiggle in the very lowest right. I don't see any sign of coastline, or island shape around the spot that has been pinpointed by the survey lines, though. It seems to be something small, that's fixed in the water.

I think we established that we're in the solar system, but not necessarily on Earth. The square thing in the sea could be the other end of GLR's ocean portal from the "what-if" page...

Did the beanies spotted the sandcastle at the beach, and because they liked it, they started building it full scale?

it would be interesting to see the other end of that "what-if" I call 1000's of yix of snow on Mars (the water that gets to Mars will vaporize instantly in the low pressure atmosphere), and a marginal increase in surface temperatures due to the greenhouse effect of the water vapor, so that liquid water is quite rare, but possible near the equator. If the core of mars is still warm enough, it will melt the snow from the bottom making a Europa like planet with some land poking through. (Half of the Earth's ocean on Mars will be twice as deep as Earth's ocean)

But my first impression is that it won't look like the planet shown here. (Also, I've heard tell that you can change what planet you are on in Stellerium. Has anyone tried it?)

Perhaps there's an unspoken "anymore" at the end of Cueball's sentence, or perhaps an unspoken "in this area." It's pretty clear (by their ability to construct sandcastles) that M&C know of castles, but maybe hadn't heard or seen of any even remotely near their home.

Google Translate on my phone couldn't do anything with it either.

Probably a made up alphabet and/or language. The question is, is it just random scribbling, or did the GLR actually create a new language (Beanon)?
Not that it matters, I'm sure we'll spend newpix upon newpix unsuccessfully trying to decode it. Image

Isn't this the spiralling morse code which Angelastic predicted? But smoothed out over the centuries.

It's too soon for LaPetite to return. I said before, this is an epic, delivered one frame at a time. We've had wow, but we haven't yet had epic. Epic takes time. There hasn't yet been enough time. You have to [ spoiler ].

The scaffolding actually reminds me of books... those gold gilt leather sets of equal-sized volumes of classics that they sometimes sell by subscription.

I think Beardo is not (just) "the translator". He simply knows several languages, among other things. This may be a university or somesuch. Or what's left of google.

And YAY! to Pelrig on the new job. :)

NoMouse wrote:Now the obvious question is, how do they even know there is such a thing as "castle"?
From copying other sandcastles from other people when they were children, of course. The fact that eleven thousand years of such reproduction yields pretty much the same thing shows that sandcastles are a stable biological niche. They are the trilobites of the architectural world. :)

Building sandcastles might be cultural - maybe a traditional kids' beach game. I can see it easily catching on with people who live near the seashore. (Edit: and, ninja'd!)

The castle itself isn't a preposterous distance away, either, and Cuegan are probably not the only ones from their hometown to go exploring. Stories of castles would be enough.

Castle has stopped sounding like a real word.

Latent22 wrote:Thanks for posting that Val! Good job with the voice acting and getting the tone and mood right. It's a little hard with just sleepy val but it seems you have a nice soft sweet voice. Sweet may not be what everyone thinks of when they hear Megan in their heads though. You might be able to add more grit when needed though. But yeah would be great if we can get some more submissions to compare with.

Thanks! I also really liked your submission for Cueball. :) I really wanted to say Megans latest line about the castles, and made a few version, but was unable to continue edits/versions due to the fact 'castle' doesn't sound like a real word to me right now. So I'm not uploading it. :? :P

Perhaps there's an unspoken "anymore" at the end of Cueball's sentence, or perhaps an unspoken "in this area." It's pretty clear (by their ability to construct sandcastles) that M&C know of castles, but maybe hadn't heard or seen of any even remotely near their home.

love your username, by the way.

Or they might be a mythical thing, like dragons. Castles and dragons were about equally real to me when I was little; i.e. you found them in fairy tales but never in the real world. (Although that might have been different had I lived in Europe.)
