Heehee! So it's just some moving pixels then, as opposed to an identified type of molpy? :P

This molpy is defined however, and is molpying down.

I do!

Code: Select all

Molpy={};
Molpy.Up=function()
{
   Molpy.molpish=0;

   Molpy.Wake=function()
   {
      Molpy.molpish=1;
...

Except that if there's an error, that fails so the other javascript file tries to go Molpy.HardcodedData=function()... and fails :P

Nearly got all of the mustard out of the redacted :D

Heh, I've inherited plenty of sloppy coding from Orteil (the c**kie guy).
Hmm, only about 4 errors with strict on, and most of those were loop variables :P
Looks like the redacted is working except it has to actually DO something...

yay bags!
ETA using strict makes mustard detection far easier!
ETA except for when I manage to mess things up so badly that even it can't help, such as writing
Molpy.SandToolsOwnedMolpy+Molpy.CastleToolsOwned
instead of
Molpy.SandToolsOwned+Molpy.CastleToolsOwned

This turned my castles into mustard. (And my new mustard detection system mean that it showed up as "Mustard Castles" instead of "NaN Castles" :D :D :D

I'm unsure how erosion works in game. It appears to be that if you have slightly less than the number of castles you need to meet your wave requirements, then the waves destroy 20% fewer. Does that mean that if I have 20 sandcastles left after accounting for the needs of all my castle tools and four of my five waves, then those 20 castles would be "wasted", but that each of the other four waves would destroy 4 fewer castles when they operate? Would that mean that the optimum strategy is to have one less castle than needed to meet the requirements at each ong?

You are right about how castles are wasted. However, the total number of castles wasted by each tool can be seen via Stats. A fifth of the total wasted by all waves is subtracted from the number waves try to destroy when Erosion is owned. As you waste more and more, you'll see the number each wave sweeps becomes less.

Ah! So it's cumulative! I'm assuming that there is a zero floor, so that once waves destroy 0 castles each time that is the limit? Thanks for the explanation, I just bought a river. :)

ggh wrote:Congratulations on your 1000th! I can't wait to see what you do for 1024.

Well, nothing. Since as I'm one of the few OTTers who isn't a mathsy computer/video game geek in the slightest, powers of 2 (I actually had to look up why it was significant) aren't as exciting to me :P

FTFY

I really wanted to do that, but didn't. :mrgreen:
Huh? Explain?

The significance of the number 1024 is mostly a computer thing. While it is related to binary, that doesn't make it a mathsy thing... hence azule's "FTFY" comment. See, there are actually 1,024 bytes in a kilobyte. Not 1,000. (1024KB in 1 MB. 1024MBs in 1 GB, etc etc) So hard drives and memory are measured in powers of 2 thus making 1024 a computery number. I probably did a terrible job at explaining that but there you go. :P

Just to be pedantic: that's not true. There are 1000 bytes in a kilobyte. SI prefixes aren't to be messed with. However there are 1024 B in a KiB (with the silly name kibibyte). Harddisk manufacturers use the correct numbers. Microsoft (used to?) count in KiB and display KB (incorrectly). That's why a 1 TB harddisk (used to?) show up as 931 GB. This was actually 931 GiB but the units were messed up.

The core of the matter is: Computers can't count beyond 1. They only know 0 and 1. For all the others mathematical "tricks" are used. This means each digit has 2 possibilities (something is 0 or 1). Due to the mathematical "tricks" it's easy to do everything in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 264, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096 and so forth).
However: we human beings don't like big numbers. They're difficult to remember. We don't want to know a file is 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. So we started shortening it. We changed that to 1 [approximately a billion] bytes. For exactly 1 billion bytes there was already a system: the SI prefixes. They became custom to use the SI prefixes. It's not exact, but usually precise enough because we don't usually need the precision that's mustarded up by the difference. In 1999 the IEC came up with a solution. The silent and mostly irrelevant war has been raging ever since.

Twice in a row I've pulled my phone out of my pocket in time to redacted! ETA and a third, is the rate too high?
ETA and again, must be some side effect of having my phone screen off, like all the autosave notifications that appear together after being away from the tab.

Argh. Forgot that waves proc before Trebuchets and Scaffolds! I had precisely enough castles for one less than I needed to do everything, when I should have had one less than the number needed for the waves ...

Oh and do rivers proc before or after waves? Because if they proc before then I will have to sell two ...

It's biggest to smallest, all the destruction then all the building.

Thank you. I should have found that out with experimentation, really, but I appreciate the helping hand.

I should check how the wiki says it. I give examples but I don't think I have a concise statement like the above.
ETA ok now I can really get a river. ETA redacted seem not to be vanishing when they should, dunno if it's my phone or something is mustard.

The wiki says that "The second will destroy 23 castles and NOT become active. (these 23 are added to the total castles wasted by trebuchets). " I'm assuming that should read "wasted by waves"?

Speaking of castles

Postby cellocgw » Wed Sep 11, 2013 11:43 am UTC

It occurred to me that all you folks who are working out how to build and destroy castles might enjoy taking a break from OTT-specific games and playing a few rounds of Medieval Madness. It's a great pinball game, with computer versions available from VisualPinball/PinMame and the new PinballArcade (iOS & Android as well as desktop). And it's got lots of exploding castles, as well as a catapult (y'know, almost like a trebuchet), a dragon, trolls (semi-molpyish), and more.

Also v0.912: I added a little blitz-related thing. Coincidentally.

Yeah. Odd. It seems to be only on that machine. It froze/crashed and this is how it appears now, even with refreshing and closing and re-opening the browser. I shut the machine down. Maybe it will be back to normal on a reboot.
What browser is this?
Does Export work?

Chrome on Windows 8. It still didn't work after a reboot. So I cleared the cache and cookies and that did the trick.
