Frizzlebeanie's drawing depicts five people. I think you're right: Frizzle is the one second from the left, and Goatee is the one on the far right. Brokenbeanie is potentially the tall one second from the right. That's 3/5. We know that there is one (apparently dead) Beanie in the cave, so that leaves one final person unaccounted for.

Also, didn't one of the cairns seem, um, grave?

This just gave me an Idea. How about replacing I love BANANAS with lines from "We love the thread of Time" (Boom de Yada) based on the position on the Newpage, so that every next title is a next booomdeyada line?

Give me about a newpix, and I'll post it

I had a molpish dream last night that we all had a OTTer meetup in real life! We met at a seashore and walked inland to where we had a picnic. Tom Baker joined us because apparently he's an OTTer too. We were less chatty than other large groups of people I've been in because we actually listened to each other when we talked. Yappo wrote a march and we marched back to the beach singing it.

That's truly a molpish dream! I wonder what username is Tom Baker using in the OTT. Or is he just a lurker?
Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

We Love BANA-na-Yada

Postby mrob27 » Fri Mar 28, 2014 3:42 pm UTC

Recently, in a Moadneß-related event, the message "I love BANANÄS" has begun to appear under the avatars in the fora threads.

I present We Love BANA-na-Yada, a GreaseMonkey script that OTTifies the BANANÄS message in-place. When reading a page of the OTT, the first 24 avatars that would have otherwise featured the banana line now feature successive lines of @BlitzGirl's first Boom-de-Yada. (Then it loops, but maybe I'll add other lines later. With 40 posts per page, there are never enough to show the verses of both of BlitzGirl's Boom-de-Yadas)

The script is here. The source code is quoted below (If you are running another BANANÄS filter, you might not see the code as I intend it):

Code: Select all

// ==UserScript==
// @namespace mrob.com

You realize this means I'll be shooting for the 16th+/- post of each NP, right? (too bad I already missed this one...)

+/-Might be more if people that already have titles (like our friend SBN) post, or less if it changes ANY instance of "I love BANANAS" (placed partially for testing purposes).

ETA: It only changes the Titles text. Steakish!

In a comically tragic turn of events, Addams didn't die. You can help her here.

Does the basement ever end?

Good luck to all the Blitzers out there!

Or random.

The tool used to create the design is a called a pounce because it resembles a talon or claw, which is where our verb ‘pounce’ comes from. I had a meowlpy who would pounce on my first husband (in an unfortunately related area) about 2 minutes before his alarm would go off every morndip. Either she recognized the digital clock pattern or his body knew it was almost time to get up and twitched or something - I can't remember at this point if she did it on wipends as well. You're correct, it's NOT a good thing...

Been trolling OldPages along with the UNGS, and I came across a gem:
StratPlayer: NP88:6; Mar 28, 2013 wrote:...and yet another long-time reader/lurker who was finally drawn, nay compelled by this comic to create a user id just to leave my own brief, transient, and soon-to-be-swallowed message in the ever-growing and shifting sands of this thread...

And yes -- I read the rules AND all 83 pages of this uber-thread. Been following it since the very first frame of the comic, back when I wondered, "Huh.. kind of a weird comic... Wait for what?"

I love the detail and method that Randall's put into this one, just like the massive posters and the "Click and Drag" magnificence. I also really like that so much effort and input has been spent by y'all guys to discuss and follow a comic that is both present, future, and past all at once.

Well-player, Mister Randall. Well-played, indeed....

ergman wrote: You know, It's weird. There's no way it could happen, but I keep expecting the oldpix to diverge from the original plot. I guess its just that old loopiest mentality resurfacing.

What if the GLR is planning to pull a George Lucas on the OTC, and has new versions of the some of the hash-URL'ed TimeFrames we've all been UNGing — not mustard fixes, but deliberately planned-in-advance story changes? We won't know about them until they're put on the server, and as with @mscha's mustard detection it might require scanning all 3101 known frames.
Think about this: what is the least number of frames that might need to be modified, in order to produce a suitably valuable change to the story?
I too harbor expectations that the Comic might be different somehow. It's subtle, but it's there.
Similarly, I am consistently able to enjoy watching movies or reading books that I have totally spoiled for myself by reading a plot summary and/or looking at the ending. Regardless of the amount of spoilage, I keep worrying that the protagonists will fail in whatever way the narrative is designed to make you fear.

AluisioASG wrote: What do y'll think of custom ranks? Either an userscript or userscript+database would do it.

I suppose it would make nominations for the OTTscars a lot easier next yip :D On the other hand, the potential for awkwardness or sadmolpy feelings, resulting from OTTers comparing their ratings to that of otherOTTers (and treating that as a proxy for their popularity, belongingness, etc.) might outweigh any benefits.

macraw83 wrote: You realize this means I'll be shooting for the 16th+/- post of each NP, right? (too bad I already missed this one...)

I did indeed think of that. An optimal version for me would insert a line that is selected based on the username, so yours would always be saying Bboz dr yndn, bboz dr yndn. Users who did not happen to be in one of the wowterful Boom-de-Yadas would have a randomly chosen line. I already have lots of examples of code that traverses the DOM to find parents, uncles or cousins of existing nodes. In this case, the macraw83 part of the profile box is a nephew of the title I love BANANÄS. And after the Mœdneß, the script could traverse the nodes the way Newpix Converter does and find the place where the titles should be and insert it.
But and it's more fun to hear the wowterful ideas from all you molpies, plus it would have taken a wee bit more than the promised 1 newpix. (I was actually hoping to finish it in one shortpix, since that's when we are in the UNGs, but I forgot Hofstadter's_Law.)

+/-Might be more if people that already have titles (like our friend SBN) post, or less if it changes ANY instance of "I love BANANAS" (placed partially for testing purposes).

As you noticed, it seems to only change the titles. I'm doing an exact string match on the entire TEXT_NODE element, which seems to do the trick. I couldn't even get it to change the text in a Multi-Quote input box.

I guess I should mention that an anti-Mœdness filter has been proposed by one of the OTTers with whom I communicate by Chronotransponder during my Blitz. It's not perfect, because the coffee filters rarely form a bijection... we eventually began to contemplate a special hybrid breed of Mœdness that turns OTTish into Outsider speak within the OTT, and essentially OTTifies all the otherthreads by turning Outsider words into OTT/OTC-related words. A little of the former happened last yip, when newpix was changed to fortnight and sandcastle became magic kingdom, etc.
