To me it looks something like Cueball running over the sea.

I'm pretty sure the current custom is that any Knight Temporal can knight others, though nobody has actually asked to be knighted on a newpage since the mid-500s. I was the one to knight mathrec and Angelastic, and I think that StratPlayer did a knighting for someone at one point, too.

So, if any of y'all want to be Knights Temporal, just let me or one of the other Knights know. :)

I know I'm a good year too late, but could I be knighted?

Sure, I can go back into the pastposts and do a knighting closer to your present Time. Image

BlitzGirl wrote:For decree: I've never played DnD, so I'm not sure what their monsters are like. Right now I'm dealing with the Outside raptor of Procrastination, which seems quite monsterous.
Indeed it is.

Description:
Procrastination (monster)
Unreasonably large aggressive virus.
Note: infectious, may be easily transmitted from one character to another depending on comradery, specific point in the election cycle, compatibility, time of day, weather, phase of the moon, presence of preferred romantic partner, internet access, etc, etc, etc...
Appearance: none
Form: amorphous, tentacular; generous quantity of hooks on tentacles (See TV Tropes) (Wait, don't!)
Abilities: illusion, self-delusion, tenacity, regeneration, offensive and defensive psi
Occurrence: ubiquitous
Attack rate: nearly constant; the Procrastination uses its offensive psi to detect a victim's particular vulnerabilities and concentrate attacks there, although some things (i.e. cats, computers) are always very dangerous. Note that a single Procrastination can engage in multiple attacks at once.
Weaknesses: few. Defensive psi allows to Procrastination to counter a victim's defenses almost before they are attempted. The only thing that can actually kill a Procrastination is another Procrastination, but since the new Procrastination absorbs the old one in situ, this does not release the victim from the attack.
Defenses against Procrastination: many and varied, but the Procrastination has an extremely fast regeneration ability. Natural resistance, willpower, external assistance, lightning bolts, catastrophic power surges, power failure, interesting teachers, interesting subjects, involuntary coma, wire-cutters, persons of authority, etc. may contribute to defense, but not even a tinfoil hat will entirely prevent infection. Note that Procrastination can be interrupted or delayed but not destroyed (see Weaknesses, above) and that a successful defense will add 1d6 to the monster's charisma (cumulative); thus attacks will occur not only randomly but, in the event of a (temporarily) successful defense, also more strongly, and whenever activity changes or concentration is broken.
Treasure: (kill not required) almost always (99.9999999785999999%) slight but ranges from extraordinarily high to abysmally low. Averages slightly on the positive side.

(I like your use of ‘monsterous’ as opposed to ‘monstrous,’ was it intentional?)

For the record: Between Outside and Procrastion (I'm looking at you, Q04B) it took me 14 newpages to write this post

Okay, off to do a knighting... ```~~**~* !whirly time ripple! *~**~~``` There we go.
When monkeygentleman reaches newpage 1074, the knighthood will be bestowed!

BlueCrab wrote:(I like your use of ‘monsterous’ as opposed to ‘monstrous,’ was it intentional?)

Yes, I was originally going to write "monsterish" but then remembered "monstrous," but I liked the three-syllable sound so I split the difference with "monsterous." Awesomeful post! :D

See, that's why I didn't link it. This way, if you become the victim of a Procrastination I'm not responsible :P

Rule number one: don't break the rules.
Rule number two: if you do break the rules, don't get caught.
Rule number three: if you do get caught, exercise plausible deniability.
Remaining rules provided upon request. Subject to Procrastination, naturally ;)

Isn't defensive psi an armour type in SMAC?

Also, involuntary coma isn't a victory. It can be an even worse enemy than procrastination itself!

"Known" is a little strong, but my grandfather raised them, so I did have some in person encounters with them in my youth. As I recall, they were much more likely to be sleeping themselves than jumping over anything.

See? It's all related! (What's SMAC? I played DnD for a few yips and I have a GURPS manual for Discworld, but other than that I'm clueless.)

HES wrote:Also, involuntary coma isn't a victory. It can be an even worse enemy than procrastination itself!

I didn't say it was a victory, I said it was a defense ;) Actually, I often procrastinate when I should be sleeping, so I maintain that involuntary coma can indeed be a victory.

Time is a river, meandering along:
Often it flows, occasionally it ebbs.

This river has not reached the Sea yet.

I went to the beach todip. I noticed that part of the shoreline had a nice dark delineation where the sound had washed up debris that was still damp, so:

Good catch, thank you! I had been using Multi-Quote, which blocks access to the page you normally get when hitting the Quote button. I see that normally (i.e. for anyone without Multi-Quote) the Quote button sends you to something that Cueishly does not contain the thread ID 101043.
So it's been updated, and you can go to my scripts page to install the new version (after uninstalling the one you currently have).

BlitzGirl wrote: Looks like that squiggly thing is happening again on the left side of the SilentONG.

This was already discussed and explained, no? I believe it is electrostatic discharge resulting from the steady buildup of static charges in the environment, caused by ionizing radiation originating from whatever is causing the blue glow. (I just did a search, and found little, but here is someone else who had a similar idea).

Oh, I think I see what Ms. Frizzle is saying. The loopy, active beesnakes are YES, good. But the strange-flying crooked ones are WEIRD, bad.

Oh, beesnakes. Huh. Okay. Hmmm...

Interesting article :D The Perl program he rails on at the end is here, but does not work in modern Perl. I fixed it:

Code: Select all

open($Q,$0);while(<$Q>){if(/^# (.*)$/){for(split('-',$1)){$q=0;for(split){s/\|

Q04B Tidbits

I have added page describing all the tiles, which includes a synopsis of the Time story and the first few Otter TimeAfterTime series. It's a bit of a spoiler for the game but I think by now everyone who would care has already had a chance to learn what the tiles are. So, you can read it here: Q04B tile descriptions.

I've also been simulating Q04B in C. My simulator can simulate about 4000 games per minute, where each game plays until either it wins (gets a Rosetta tile) or loses (grid is filled up with no legal move). Since I have a big workstation with plenty of free cores, I ran this for about a newpix, simulating 500,000 games, and found that @NoMouse's simple pattern will win about 6% of the time. (Others here have played similar games, by manually hitting direction-keys in a pattern or using computer assistance).

I have spent the day ketchuping every newpix (uhhh old pix?) of the SilentONG and finally know whats going on :)

I then tried to read the OTT but i forgot my phrase book and got confused. I'll pick up the lingo as i go along.

BlitzGirl wrote:Oh, I think I see what Ms. Frizzle is saying. The loopy, active beesnakes are YES, good. But the strange-flying crooked ones are WEIRD, bad.

I go with the radiation theory and the cave is a natural nuclear reactor like Oklo. As people suggested beanie died of radiation poisoning and as Ms. Frizzle said there is water under/in the cave which could act as the coolant/neutron moderator. Running out into the fresh water lake making the beesnakes who have drunk the water sick.

As The Holy Geophysicist I say this is so (probably)

SMAC is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. SMAX is the same with the Alien Crossfire extension.

Seeing as the cave looked like it was made of concrete blocks in the enhancement I can't find now I would guess it is an artificial reactor that fell into disrepair.
Even in the non-enhanced version I feel that it is unlikely to be a natural hill:

I would conclude that the lake contains water that traveled through the reactor. Maybe rainwater that dripped through the reactor, mixed with the ground water and thus came into the lake.

Dammit. You're probably right. I thought the hill looked a little weird when i first saw it. Would explain why it was close to a water source though.

I know only a little about rocks. It pretty much stops at "they aren't tasty" :P .
What kind of rocks could be below the reactor to allow radioactive water to reach the ground water?

Brief blindpost, although I'm only a little bit behind, with regards to Q04B:

Firstly, mrob: you have created something that appears to be the bane of my life atm! Secondly, could I make a feature request? Specifically an undo button (it only needs to be single-step) - I just accidentally made a move whilst locking up my laptop for a bit whilst the window was active, which is likely to seriously mess up my game. Given the length of time a single game would run, making a single accidental move caused by leopard flailing can be somewhat upsetting :(

Undo has been described as a "literal game changer", so I'm not convinced mrob would include it. There is, of course, the export function. I recently exported prior to a seaish cascade that I then mustarded up, but that was Lucky. Auto-export at key milestones would be good.

If in doubt, or your strategy has gone out the window, try

Most of Cueball is made of rock, but his head is made of barnacles (appropriately).

Treeish! Though he rather looks like he's being bombarded by two meteors...

Certainly RELATED visually, but I don't get this one... a random comment on morse code and then a complete subject change to livejournal? Whaddimiss?

I came across this page today, and thought I'd post it here because the created language reminds me somewhat of OTTish:

It depends on your definition of "on". If it's a 2.5-d world, she could be in front of or behind it.

That's still closer than I would wish to stand to a rotting half-eaten mutant corpse.
