Indeed.
Popes didn't even get a mention, which is probably for the best :P
And yes I was fully of seaish amounts of glee as I read it (StormAngel watched).

I felt very molpish reading it because all the quotes of stuff that I'd written to the author sounded a lot smarter and deeper than I'd thought when I wrote them :D

Now I need to figure out how to make stuff equally amazing without the obvious flaws. That will be tricky since the same design principal caused both... well except the terrible UI, that was just me designing badly.

That's pretty treeish, but I think it's even cooler that Q04B is linked from Sandcastle Builder  which could very well be how the IGN writer discovered it.
@ED, do you have a way to discover how many new people are playing SB every wip? It'll be interesting to see how the article affects that. We already know there are tons, pretty much since Reddit's /r/incremental_games/ picked up on it.

I'll just comment on one little bit of the article itself:
Justin Davis wrote:But how can I recommend a game to someone where nothing will happen for days, everything is built on a foundation of bastardized in-jokes, and even when you know what you're doing, it's still hard to play?

My experience with Flappy Bird, and the negative feedback I got regarding my adjustable-speed version, made me realize that difficulty of all types is what makes games enjoyable... to their fans, anyway. It's that simple — without a degree in psychology I don't think there is much more to be understood. I was a little horrified at the central role addictiveness seems to play, but I had to accept it. Game designers, and creative artists in general, deliver something to the world that is inexplicably liked far more than the artist ximself appreciates, but the best they can do is not stand in the way.

ED wrote:Now I need to figure out how to make stuff equally amazing without the obvious flaws. [...]

I'd let some other game designers worry about that. See previous comment :D

Any questions? Image

Yesgeared, yesunmentioned and yescausation.
There's also a bias against people whose biological diurnal rhythm runs slower than 24 hours. Both are correlated with the bias that favours abmbitiousness/compulsiveness/assertiveness/"Type A-ness" or whatever you want to call it. But it's hard to prove any of it and it's probably all just culture.

I can give you sessions and %new sessions hourly for the past month if you like:

session data

And referrals from the past month:
sb-ign2.png

Looks like it's had no visible impact yet. Maybe it'll have a longer term impact but I think it's unlikely. The people who were going to play it probably already knew about it because of /r/incremental_games.

I've been learning a lot about game design lately, by listening to the Drive to Work podcast by Mark Rosewater. Lots of interesting stuff that's generally applicable, I think.

I guess so. I've known about the word for a long time. Probably because I liked to read a lot of medical-type books from the library. (And quantum physics and crime, but that's unrelated.) And I'm not 30. Yet. Don't remember whether I knew it before high school. Maybe.

I think it's getting more attention. The Myers-Briggs test and discussion of what the categories meant, including introvert/extrovert, became part of my high school curriculum shortly before I started attending in 2004. It was covered again in one of my university introductory classes. So my cohorts and I at least learned about it. I do tend to agree that much of the US seems to cater to extroverts, but hey, I'm an introvert too so I may be biased. Love the meowlpy version of the explanation, mrob.

@ED: Baobabs and steakish!

I can confirm that there is (yet) no very visible impact. As my organized sand delivers the heretically coloured versions of the ONGs (at least I think it does, unless ED has changed the logic), there should be also an increase of the load. There was such an event (from 12:25 UTC to 13:10 UTC) but it seems to bee too short to actually being caused by IGN-dotting.

Having said that, I can see in my logs continuing request for OTColerations from castle.chirpingsmustard.com, which is molpish!
