Finally back homein Santa Cruz. Had a molpish late Cuegan-shipping Dip celebration in San Francisco last night. I was very glad i had that to look forward to, because saying goodbye to allthe OTTers in Bochum was really sad. I was tryibg to open a water bottle that had this really complicted lid, and I almost said, "I don't know what this water bottle is doing," but my bef wouldn't have known what i was talking about. It made me reflect on how wowterful it was to be with a whole group of people for whom that would mean something.

I heard "molpy"at least a couple more times before leaving Germany. Still not sure what that was about.

Anyway can share any of my contributions. I posted to the IRC as lmjb164 and lmjbRTA. Although I didn't post very much because my organized sand and the IRC were apparently not frienda.

Whoa, I have some fairly seaish ketchup to,ketchup! Treeish!

Just to be official: there was a NewOtherComic published at the other end of this dip.

Or did I miss the posting and case myself yet another HUMBle moment?

Of course it would be appropriate that this announcement got blown off course.

I only skimmed my ketchup, so I am a bit blind
@taixzo: I am hyped for that!

anyway, since it's my 222nd post, have this:
"Otters' True Community", An OTTification of "Zero Visibility" by Rise Against (couldn't think of a good name :/ 1138 to StormAngel for the title!)
Spoiler:

Was coming in here for the comic
can't lurk forever is what they say
We were surprised, to find some friends
Meanwhile a Pixel had changed

With just vague expectations
We came here at first
but by now we all know
There is no place like
The One True Thread Of Time

We were not brave,
We were not wise,
Had no idea of what we would find
But we waited all together

We always returned
Back from the Outside
To ketchup and read in the Thread of Time
And we waited on together

The moments of discontent here were shortlived
Noone was excluded from this place
There were no wars, no trolls in sight
Instead a whole lot of fun

Maybe not alway on topic
With hats and cardinals
but it's still RELATED
As part of the culture
Not too far!

We were not brave,
We were not wise,
Had no idea of what we would find
But we waited all together

We always returned
Back from the Outside
To ketchup and read in the Thread of Time
And we waited on together

And the outside sometimes gets the better
Of us and we
Slowly fall down with the ladder
Become basementees
But still we will then come back later
The rest Waits for it.
Just wait for it

We are not brave
We are not wise
We still don't know what more we will find
So we wait on all together

We will return
everytime
To ketchup and read in the Thread of Time
And will wait on all together
On forever

addams wrote:Is there a way to fix an invalid URL?

What is the url (or link) that you use to get there?

Does the following link take you to youtube?

https://www.youtube.com/

Does the following link take you to a video on youtube ("We love the thread of Time too!")?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG24SX4HEK8

A basic youtube URL has the following parts (I'll use the above one as an example):

https://www.youtube.com/
This part takes you to the site itself. It consists of:
https://
which states the protocol (communication method). It can also be http:// for an unencrypted connection.
www.youtube.com/
which states the domain where the page is located
watch
which states the actual page to be accessed, in this case the page with the viewer, and
?v=lG24SX4HEK8
which identifies the video itself. The question mark begins the list of variables; in this case there is only one, "v", and it equals "lG24SX4HEK8" (the identification code of that particular video). If there were more, they'd be separated by ampersands (not to be confused with organized sands)

Once you recognize these parts, you'll be able to fix some kinds of broken youtube URLs.

What URL or link did you use that landed you on the broken page?

Some servers will "redirect" you. This means that you type in one URL, the site reads it, and sends you to a different place. This is controlled by the server. For example, on youtube, if you use http:// and are capable of a secure connection, you will be redirected to the same site, using the https:// protocol. You'll see the address change in the address bar when that happens.

Steakish otty there, micdi! Happy redundatwo!

AluisioASG wrote:There are too many lines to follow. I'm going insane. ucim, what do I do?
You should join all the lines together so they are easier to handle. If you can gather an ininite number of them (or a finite number and a math trick) you have a plane. Get on the plane and fly to Bochum. Use a chronotransponder to arrive at the OTT convention.

Or become pope again. :)

Thanks @Sciscitor, I'll ask you (and maybe @benedikt_wi) about ffmpeg

ucim wrote:An edited, synchronized-wit-slides version would be treeish, but don't we want Blitzers to be able to experience, so much as possible, the flavor of the original too?

My experience was pretty synchronised. I was able to watch the slides, and both videos, and hear audio and read IRC all at the same time... but I needed two computers running two VLCs and a browser. The only real m*stard was that the audio kept going silent for a millinewpix or so every now and then.

MistyCat wrote:I was thinking of a general case, including multiple users quitting and joining with a new, unrelated alias. Bot-creation for that I would call hard.

I am only trying to reduce the amount of manual work. So if I start with 250 different nicks, the easy-trivial thing will reduce it to say 50. Then I have, at most, only 1/5 as many people to ask for permission. I can reduce that further because lots of OTTers have given an answer one way or another, either in a post or by PM. So I think we're actually pretty close to resolving the text IRC log thing.
I'm inclined to have a rebus/OTTification/puzzle-based URL and/or password as well, so that a reader of this thread (whether active or lurker) needs to be able to think reasonably OTTishly (i.e. not be a corporate bot) in order to figure out how to get to the log. This is similar to what has been proposed for getting to other media such as videos.

Marsh'n wrote:the first rule of OTTcon is how the m*stard do you talk about OTTcon

Thank you for your bravebean for decree, @jovialbard. I spoke with a couple OTTers on IRC about how the jargon is isolating lurkers and Blitzers from the aforewhen and the Present (respectively). Hopefully I can make things better with my more thorough and etymology/usage-oriented version of the OTTish glossary. For example, at @Marsh'n's request today I added an entry for "Zanclean" which lists 6 different meanings that word got (apart from Outsider and flood-related meanings). Though I'm not sure how Blitzers will find it. Maybe a signature change is in order...

Wow, @taixzo, a custom OTT interface in MacOSX! That's baumisch. I still use Newpixometer.

Marsh'n wrote: ,,, First, when I saw a group who had to be OTTers coming in the long-bill-molpy-castle door as I was checking in, but I couldn't get up the nerve to more than squeak out the river is small??? ...

Perhaps we could have a OTTer protocol for in-person meetups. We have Time to develop one, before the next meetup. But you know, we could come up with a few ideas now...

It would one OTTer's assessment of what was most notable, and might be perceived as a popularity vote. (Perhaps that is why the OTTscars never completed, but I digress...) Of course, my blitzreports are one person's assessment of what was most notable, but at least you know that. If we did a community signpost account thingy, it wouldn't have that obviousness.

Well, it finally happened tonight, the OTTside and the Outside collided for me and it was hilarious. Me, speaking to supervisor:
"That's really... um..." pause, think... um, how do you say "molpish" in English? "... um, good news."

@micdi - That's a treeish OTTification, not just of the song, but of the now-when in OTTcon and OTT itself, in how people are thinking about carrying this on, together.
@addams - What a beautiful video. I was captured already as soon as I saw the Fibonacci sequence of numbers at the beginning, something I'm very interested in, but the imagery was even flutterbeewingisher (rather literally in parts). Thanks for sharing!
@Eternal Density - I appreciate whatever one might learn about how people can learn to avoid steambottling the world and each other. So if you care to share, I care to listen.

And, if someone created an appropriate NON-redundant username in the OTT, would it be molpish to have the OTTernews republished to this username by bot?

To put together a few of the ideas floating around, a solution to basementee and lurker confusion:
A bot, that posts 3rd postposition of a NP, with a link to the wiki and glossary (mrob's?) and a summation of the latest newwords. Then, not every NPlimit, a roundup of blitz quality quotes or what have you from the recentwhen.
This bot could theoretically be a personplurality writing a post at goattimedef. Submitting through the bot is how we'd make sure it posted 3rd.

Eternal Density wrote: I have more to say about this.
But is it too unRELATED?
The flood is coming. The first rule of preventing the flood is to talk about the flood. (First, second...it's up there...)

position This avoids being both pope or blitzus annoyus personus, but can still be relevant for the pagepen.
limit Maybe based on time, or whatever minimum the bot collects.
plurality Or persons. Like, if a few people wrote something up, they could all be included (or edited). Or if none, then just a bot summary.
def End of the NP.
pen As opposed to it's usefulness as goat.

I'm not entirely sure I understand. But I do need to convert from HTML to BBCode so that I can make quotes. Going the other way is relatively easy.

Me too. (There could have been a lot of 'me too' posts that I never wrote/posted. Hopefully this one will be of some use to someone.)
The poem follows the same syllable pattern as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and I've bolded words they have in common in the same place. It also contains various words from Baa Baa Black Sheep, which are underlined.
The remaining parts are: A G P Q R U X and Now A B time me.
As pointed out below, these are from another song. Is there a secret in which words were chosen from which song? I'll leave that for someone else to determine. Molpy down...

The rest seems to be from "the ABC"

Now, I don't know if it has any meaning from which song each word comes.

ETA: And now that I think about it, all three song do have the same melody.

well, they all use the same tune, and syllable pattern thingy. I guess he could just be pointing out that they're interchangeable. But how is it RELATED?

I'M NOT A TREBUCHAT BUT I POST ONE IN THE MOONBASE

Postby lmjb1964 » Tue Feb 17, 2015 11:15 pm UTC

Because I'm so bad at ketchup on my MTA, and because my internet connectivity was unmolpish in Bochum, I only sort of skim-ketchupped while I was there. I'm now re-ketching up stuff that was posted during the conference, and it's causing me some very epsilon timey-wimeyness. I'm reading about OTTers arriving and meeting up, and I was there in the past when it happened, but I'm reading it in the now. Where am I? When am I? Maybe if I close my eyes and concentrate, I can be back in Bochum with all the wowterful OTTers, talking about organized sand and molpies instead of being here at my MFFS* trying to de-m*stard. (Note: that isn't where the footnote is directing to&)

I finally read the new AotC, and it was like unto the wowterfall. I also re-watched balthacinematographer's travelogue. It was awesomeful.

* This isn't a very interesting footnote marker thingy. Does the footnote marker thingy have a name?
&Another reason I should have use a different FMT.¢
¢Which of course stands for Footnote Marker Thingy.
Or whatever that's called.
Hm, good idea, I should trademark Footnote Market Thingyº
ºWhy did I start these footnotes in the first place?¡
¡Ah, right. Meowlpy Food Funding Source.§
§There is no eighth footnote.
