It's in the mail.

I went looking for an appropriate cake, but what I found was cakes for rent.

Oooh, I like this one. :D

The past page pope of 949 is...... MARSH'N!!!

EDIT: But I have decided to send a PM to @jjjdavidson because it keeps in theme with what SBN and BG just did. And because of the reasons below:

Valarya wrote:Current page pope has us going to the past and picking someone to PM. I chose you, because one of the most memorable things in all of Time for me were the Double Dactyls. On top of the actual changing comic, of course. ;) So, here's a Double Dactyl for you:

Oh, hello, I haven't been here since... page 2093.

I never had actual time to continue reading anything, and felt that if I didn't continue blitzing I'd betray everyone, so I just kind of gave up and abandoned the thread...

But SBN just sent me a message! Hi SBN!

Hi everyone else!

What did I miss? Do people keep blitzing? I can probably just wait till someone has ketched up the last 600 pages and see the highlights :mrgreen:

Blitzing, and even meeting for the lucky few that were able. I was not, alas, but I got to watch some of it online. For posterity, my post count was 1788 when I made my decree.
And, as was said, there are many ways to Time, it is not a betrayal at all.

Vytron!! Awesomeful to see you. :D

There are lots of us who disappeared for hundreds of newpages and did zero blitzing or ketchupping. I crawl out from the basement from time to time, so it's lovely to see you while my head is out of the dark! Image

I went back and edited my post to PM a past-person and occasional basementee. So @jjjdavidson, if you're seeing this: MOLPISH HELLOS TO YOU!

Did we ever get confirmation that it was davеan who did so? I can't remember. But he is the most likely candidate.

The links are in my paper! In particular, bibliography entry #14 links to this post from the Mod Madness 2013 announcement thread, which I will quote here:
gmalivuk wrote: [...] This year, the bulk of the discussion was in the "Time" thread, where two factors prevented our becoming as heavily into making filters:
1) davеan somehow arranged it so that posts themselves wouldn't be altered by filters (though filters were applied when quoting a post or reading things from the post-writing screen or preview).
2) The people in that thread had already created not only a bunch of their own vocabulary but their own religions all by themselves, so it didn't feel like we could do as much on top of that as we took joy in doing to the PUA thread last year. [...]

(emphasis added) Note part 1), which I have emphasized, for emphasis.

... and the reason I don't spell davеan's name fullyс is that I am trying to avoid summoning him. He sees posts that mention his name, viz.:
dav**an wrote: (OTT:663:33)

The only way then is fixing the phpBB BBCode parser. But I doubt the One True Webmaster davеan would let us do that. :D

That isn't even part of phpBB core, it is a quick hack I added ages ago for some subforum or other. Just a custom BBCode tag with some JS attached. It could easily be improved. Just send a patch or something.

Just summon me again, or better yet email it.

Treeish, an official citation and everything! :mrgreen:
Yeah, I tend to italicize a letter or change font size in davean's name for the same reason. Breaks up the word, makes it not appear in fora search (so probably not in the summoning routine either). Wouldn't want to be annoying.

Wee, in looking for the meaning of Lacuna I saw the wikipedia page for Lacuna Coil, an awesome metal band, and I saw that Cristina Scabbia sings for them and not for Stream of Passion. This is important to me because I absolutely love the song S.O.S. she did with Apocalyptica. Now I have to listen to both in order to adjust the threshold values of my voice recognition neuron network.

Did you notice ...

Postby balthasar_s » Thu Mar 05, 2015 8:27 am UTC

The bluet1i viewer now has links to the "Did you notice ..." posts.

They will be added automatically, every day, by this:

notice2.awk:

Code: Select all

#! /usr/bin/mawk -f
BEGIN{
   mawk="/usr/bin/mawk"
   wget="/usr/bin/wget"
   tempfile="/eizm/tmp/t1i/notice"
   postlist="\"http://forums.xkcd.com/search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&author_id=560926\""
   useragent="\"t1i - did you notice...(http://1190.bicyclesonthemoon.info/bluet1i/viewer)\""
   noticeawk="/eizm/pro/t1i/notice.awk"

   system(wget" -q -O "tempfile" -U "useragent" "postlist)
   system(mawk" -f "noticeawk" "tempfile)
}

notice.awk:

Code: Select all

{
   if($0 ~ /<h3><a .*>TimeAfterTime Revisited/)
   {
      post=substr($0, index($0,"#p")+2)
      post=substr(post, 1, index(post, "\"")-1)

      frame=substr($0, index($0, "t1i-")+4, 4)

      file="/eizm/mem/t1i/notice/"frame
      printf("%s",post) > file
      close(file)
   }
}

In crontab:

Code: Select all

33 4 * * * /eizm/pro/t1i/notice2.awk

This was added to viewer.c:

Code: Select all

sprintf(notice,"/eizm/mem/t1i/notice/%04hu",cgiFrame);
   file=fopen(notice,"rt");
   if(file!=NULL)
   {
      fgets(notice,255,file);
      fclose(file);
      printf("<tr align=\"center\"><td colspan=\"4\"><a href=\"/ott/view?p=%s#p%s\">Did you notice . . . </a></td></tr>\n",notice,notice);
   }

I never built a bluecave.

It links to the didyounotice posts on the mirror instead of the real OTT because both the mirror and the viewer are on the same server. Ant when one works the other will too.
But if you want I can change it.

I was going to say that "I cannot not be summoned". There's a possibility that "I can be summoned". I'm going to start saying "he who should not be summoned" to refer to you-know-who. Anyways, thanks. I sorta thought the PC=NP thing was for forgotten OTTers. I'm honored to be considered amongst them. ;)

Your google-fu is weak, young browncoat. Perhaps you should approach the problem from another angle: Find a few safe builders and search their site for stainless steel. For example Brown. No water bottles in sight!
This search can be used as a list of safe manufacturers.

For the LP: I hereby declare that I too do also agree with ab3OTTersar. Also, I can confirm I was the "StormAngel" who didn't post in the IRC on either dip of the conference. :(

I'm not too concerned with privacy; anymolpy can post pics or videos that contain me, either here or on FaceBug. My BTTF hat makes me easy to identify, except for when it doesn't - such as when I took it off, or when ED was wearing his identical one.
I'm especially looking forward to seeing a group pic with all the beanies ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
I haven't even started any editing of my conference videos yet. My FFS has been keeping me busy, especially this wip as my employer is literally overseas.

@addams Thanks for the neat socks‼ They were perfect for walking around in Berlin. I'm sure they'll get plenty more use next winter too :D

Edit to wonder: Why have my posts been right after ED the last several times? Its not at all intentional.

For decree: I dropped a digit and got 288. Lots of familiar names, and a few unfamiliar ones. Dropped a note to AionArap, who was starting his own lodge of [redacted]. Do give him a wave if you see him delurk! (But of course do it discreetly, as we wouldn't want to blow his cover.) No, nothing to see here. These are not the droids you're looking for.

* whistles nonchalantly *

If you are a member of [redacted], act as if you were not. If you are not, act as if you were. That'll keep 'em guessing.

Lacuna Coil was the first thing to come to my mind :P ...I've known the band for ages but never knew the meaning of the word. Yay for the OTT, always learning new things!

I'd go all CG (see above) but then there'd be two of us. I guess I have to stay. :(

Hiya Charlie_Salve! Great to see you again! :D

This is a steakish decree, SBN! I love it when decrees bring back Old Ones and Basementees! I have gone back to 272 (as my postcount was 2729) and PM'd Caswallon. *Waves in case he pops by*
