Out of sheer curiosity, who reads the Chronicles of Torgos?

What can I do to improve it? The updates are super lengthy, maybe they need to be shortened, less flavour text maybe?

I'd love some feedback and an idea of my audience size :P

Me, and the length is fine. Flavour helps it flow well, otherwise it might get dry and dull.

On that note, who's waiting for more Mage Stones? Any suggestions?

I do, but you already should know that as I've been commenting on them. I like them the way they are, and it sounds like you're having a ton of fun both playing and writing about it. One minor thing that might improve them somewhat might be navigation links edited into them, for an easier time to read through them all. I've been going through and re-Blitzing AotC, and those links are quite treeish.

Eternal Density wrote:On that note, who's waiting for more Mage Stones? Any suggestions?

Happy RNMs, ggh and ucim!

I read the Chronicles and think they're treeish, but agree that navigation links would help. I probably won't read this latest installment till I'm on vacation next wip, and will want to go back and refresh my memory. I also need to back and blitz ED's awesomeful story.

Yes, it has been slow this wip--I would imagine that others are traveling over the summer as well.

I got a new MTA! The GPS works on it. I haven't been able to use Maps pretty much the whole time because it kept telling me, "GPS signal lost." Or it would start giving me wrong directions because it suddenly decided I was somewhere that I wasn't...But what finally drove me to get a new phone? The fact that I would be standing right in front of a Pokestop and it would think it was too far away to access. Yes, I have my priorities! :D

So KXA made the STAFs on the Moon? Man, my chronology is all mixed up... the chips in BFTF are 74HC373s like the STAF chips... was BFTF before or after you announced the STAFs?

ggh wrote:So KXA made the STAFs on the Moon?
We don't know it. I can be a STAF or it can be something else. Using a 373 to drive a 7-segment display is one of the methods of doing it when the microcontroller doesn't have enough pins available. (The other, more common one involves unnoticeably fast blinking). But since I never made any other device with 373s, a STAF is more likely, I think.
the chips in BFTF are 74HC373s like the STAF chips
On the bftframe we see only "74HC3". However the 373 answer is very likely.
In the STAF a 74hc374 instead of 373 would work as well. You could take out the 373 and put a 374 in its place and it would still work the same way. The only difference between those chips that one is triggered by state and the other by slope. And since my code generates a short "1" pulse both will work.

Code: Select all

   void display(unsigned char *data)
   {
      //lsd
      P1OUT =data[0];
      P3OUT |=0x80; //74hc373 latch enable
      P3OUT &=0x0f;

      P1OUT =data[1];
      P3OUT |=0x40;
      P3OUT &=0x0f;

      P1OUT =data[2];
      P3OUT |=0x20;
      P3OUT &=0x0f;

      //msd
      P1OUT =data[3];
      P3OUT |=0x10;
      P3OUT &=0x0f;
   }

Actually, when designing the STAF I planned to use 374 but 373 was cheaper (0.80 instead of 1.10)/

Man, my chronology is all mixed up... ... was BFTF before or after you announced the STAFs?

Some chronology:

Also, remember that there will be many differences between the real world and the bftfworld.

I think NZ does, but as @taixzo said, that would be a charger thing.
My leopad didn't have that much of a problem when I went to Europe.

The fact that I would be standing right in front of a Pokestop and it would think it was too far away to access. Yes, I have my priorities! :D
I have had a bunch of MTA m*stard over the yips... spoilered for seaishness:

Spoiler:
My first phone (from 2007) was a flip phone... I'd call it an MTA, but the internet on it was painfully slow, and it was "pay-by-the-kilobyte" so essentially pointless as I never used it. Anyways, after about a yip, I had it sitting on the armrest in my parents' carcastle as I was charging it while sitting in the back seat, and at one point my mother braked really hard and it went flying forward straight into a cup of Diet Coke. Needless to say, it was toast.

My second phone (from 2008) was also a flip phone, and not even a RAZR or anything, one of the ones you'd get for free with the contract. It fell out of my pocket in class one day, and I made a mental note to pick it up after class since I needed to get up from my seat and crawl under it to get it. I promptly forgot, and about a minute after I left I realized I didn't have it. I returned to my seat, and it was already gone. About 15 minutes later I'd tracked down my roommate and called mom and told her to disable it, but by then someone had already charged over $200 by downloading of games and calling overseas, all in about 40 minutes (though thankfully we were fully refunded).

My third phone (from early 2009) was also a flip phone, and the charge port failed within about 6 mips.

Fortunately, that was about the time I was eligible for an upgrade, so this time I splurged and got a Moto Droid 2. It was a faithful little device, with its sliding keyboard and everything. It was also really nice to get the unlimited data (I think I got it about 6 mips before Verizon got rid of the option for new accounts to sign up for it), which I've made good use of ever since. However, by the time my 20-mip commitment was up, the battery would only last for about 2 nopix on a charge when using the MTA, or about 6 nopix if it was just sitting there asleep, and the right edge of the screen started becoming unresponsive to touch, and this zone started spreading slowly to the left until the rightmost quarter of the screen was affected. So, I upgraded, less than a wip before Verizon stopped allowing grandfathered plans to get the upgrade cost on a new phone and still keep the unlimited data, and got a Galaxy.

My Galaxy lasted me for over 2 yips, but along the way it started picking up strange quirks. First, the battery started going. When I got it, I could easily get through a full xip without needing to charge it. Within a yip, it was down to 3 nopix, 6 if I didn't use it, similar to my D2. I got a new battery, and experienced a similar decline over the next yip. Also, about a yip in, the GPS started acting like yours. I tried everything I could, but it was completely unreliable, so I started carrying my old D2 around on trips, connecting to Wi-Fi to set up a route and start the GPS Navigation just to be able to get places. About 2 yips in, though, the USB port failed, meaning I couldn't charge it or plug it into my computer, so I bought an external battery charger that came with 2 spares, and every time the battery needed to be replaced for the next 6 mips or so until I bought the MTA that I have now, which has had almost 0 m*stard, and I've had it for almost 2 yips now.

There are raptor Pokémon, of both the prehistoric and avian varieties. Also, IE did something that surprised me: Pokemon was autocorrected to Pokémon. But now that I went and changed one back to say that it autocorrected it, it didn't correct the 3rd one, or any others that I just tested, so maybe I broke it forever....

Do they use 220v electricity back home? (Although, I would expect that to affect the charger, but not the computer itself.)

I think NZ does, but as @taixzo said, that would be a charger thing.
My leopad didn't have that much of a problem when I went to Europe.
It may be a fault with the charger where it is supplying a higher voltage to the computer when connected 220V than it is when connected to 110V. Just tossing out ideas though, the only way to know for sure would be to use a multimeter in both places.

And a very happy 4400 to our resident hamply!

Happy RNM,HES!! I hope Hugh enjoy the cake.

Much molpish news! (redundant for those who read it on my Facebug page.) First, the visit to the vet that I expected would give me bad news gave me good news instead! Despite a serious heart murmur, the x-ray showed that Dixie's heart is in good shape. And her kidney function has actually improved since the last time! That means we can focus on her IBS and getting her to gain weight. And she charmed the staff at the office--I had her leash and she wouldn't sit still, so I put her on the leash and she wandered all around the office, checking out the different rooms.

And then I drove home at 5 PM on a Friday, and there was NO traffic. It was weird, but molpish.

AND, I've gotten the informal offer for one of the MFFS's that I interviewed for recently! It will mean a raise and getting away from my difficult boss. I know two of the people in the new office, and they're great And I would actually have an office, not a cubicle! Wheee!

Edited to fix a really embarrassing typo. I do know it was supposed to be "they're" and not "their." Really!!

Some Organised-sand-RELATED news... probably not of too much general interest so Spoiler:ified:
Spoiler:
I am going to grad. school this fall at Boston university, so I need a new laptop (something I wouldn't mind breaking and dropping). I found one that's amazingly fast, efficient (Intel Skylake), and well within my budget. It runs Linux pretty well, so far so good. I've been installing various Linuces, and discovering things that need to be changed or fixed. Some notes already posted here.

Oh dear I forgot to install the updates. I quit IceWeaselFirefox to start that, and re-opened it to type this. It remembered my partly-composed post!

I had a lovely experience today with trying to use a live CD on USB flash drive to install a second Linux distro on another USB flash drive, whilst trying to make it leave the internal HDD alone (as that also has a very nice distro I'm still trying out). Oops, I uncovered a bug in the EFI/GRUB stage of ubiquity that only happens if you have secure boot enabled in the BIOS and do an install onto an external drive when the internal drive also has an EFI partition. Nice!

And yeah, I'll probably have to hack the kernel at some stage. It seems even the latest 4.6.whatever and 4.7.whatever kernels don't let my CPU get into a package C-state deeper then PC3. Or so says powertop.

What happened to iceweasel anyway? I can launch "iceweasel" but it's really just an alias to Firefox.

I've also started playing Pokemon GO (how do I type an e with acute accent? Compose key? What's "Alt Gr"?) and wondering why nomolpy has OTTified it yet. Or maybe they have, but I'm still behind on my ketchup.

On a leopard with a numberpad, hold ALT and type 130 (é)

On a leopard without a numberpad, google "e acute" then copy/paste. Pretty much as fast as any other method, and works for just about any accent. Google's pretty smart. For example, if you can't remember how to spell háček, then google "hatcheck accent.

Or look at http://www.typeit.org/

Wolpies mostly want to be with their FPs, so while they'll be confused for a bit, they'll be happy. Not sure when we'll actually be living there, probably going to have some work done first, and just go up for swimming and chores for now.

Alt Gr is like the international Alt key. You have to have your keyboard set to international (US). That's what I did. Then you press it [alt gr] and press e and it will show it with an accent on top. You can also press ' (apostrophe) and then the key you want, like an e or even an s, and it will put an accent on some of them.
