You see, this is why you have to keep an eye on your bots at all times. Here I thought lmjbot was just hanging out my kitchen counter, and meanwhile she's posting phys frames! Can't blame her, though, she was probably getting pretty bored.

As it turns out, at work today I was attempting to observe and photograph this raptor:
Image

who was not ch*rping, when it inconveniently relocated itself to a telephone wire further away. So, sometime you just wait to see if the non-ch*rping ones will relocate themselves.

It is good to see lmjbot in action again! :D

Today in "it's all RELATED", I've formed a new folk trio called the Mowdywarps. Mowdywarp is an old Cumbrian dialect word for "mole".

So our band name is an obscure slang term for a mole...

Gonna refer to us as The Molpies from now on.

But then, I'm the kind of person who thinks the italic portion above makes perfect sense, so you might want to take that with a grain of sand.

!
Light speed measured!
By observing Jupiter and its moon!

But

"noticed a delay when the Earth was further away from Jupiter"

this
doesn't really tell me how it works.
A simplification?
What does it mean a delay here?
What is delayed?
And what is it delayed from?

I checked.
Wikipedia has a page about this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%B8mer%27s_determination_of_the_speed_of_light
Go read it.
It is interesting.
The relevant part about what it means by "noticed a delay"::
The key phenomenon that Rømer observed was that the time elapsed between eclipses was not constant. Rather, it varied slightly at different times of year. Since he was fairly confident that the orbital period of Io was not actually changing, he deduced that this was an observational effect. The orbital paths of Earth and Jupiter being available to him, he noticed that periods in which Earth and Jupiter were moving away from each other always corresponded to a longer interval between eclipses. Conversely, the times when Earth and Jupiter were moving closer together were always accompanied by a decrease in the eclipse interval. This, Rømer reasoned, could be satisfactorily explained if light possessed a finite speed, which he went on to calculate.
