SilentTimer wrote:CONGratulations!
You ENHANCEd a large fraction of the details hidden in phys. Most of the molpies managed to escape, though. ;-b

"a large fraction" suggests that there are still some kind of hidden details.
What kind of hidden details?

Things hidden by pixel values are already covered by my detecting tool.
It is very good at detecting darkening pixels.
Even if the exact method of hiding is not known.
It reorders the bits in the color data.
So colors which used to be similar but not identical become different and the difference is visible.
It is very good at detecting but not good at making a "beautiful" enhancement.
(But if the hidden things are found, it is possible to prepare a more "personalized" enhancements.
I would like to do it soon.)
So i'm very sure that all things of this category are already found.
Except for the animated frames. I was not able to make automatic enhancements of them because of problems with the library.
(the current one can't save gif, the improved one doesn't compile)
So there could still be some details hidden there. This my enhancement shows that it's possible. (interestingly, the Additional information hasn't noticed it yet)

Other kinds of pixel based secrets could use transparency but phys frames are not transparent.
Or they could use colormap tricks (like t-1 or bftf) but phys frames are in grayscale, and not indexed (when I checked last time) (except animated ones)

So I think that the things still left to find are not things we don't see.
They are things we see but we don't know it.
Or we don't know what we see.

So, small things which are actually important objects, molpies, drawings or writings with hidden meanings, and so on.
These kind of things can not be done automatically.
You actually have to look and see.

About molpies,
If a molpy wasn't mentioned it doesn't mean it wasn't found.
Most often I didn't tell about molpies I noticed. I just thought "a molpy, ok".
But
if you find a molpy
but don't tell it
then you could as well not have found it.
the world will not see a difference.
So
Does anyone want to go through the phys frames and prepare a molplist?

You can wave at a snake (Hi Corinne!) but you can't particle at a snake. Or you could, but it wouldn't be nice.

Also, you can tune a piano.

He says It's ok and only after that asks if venomous?

<computery stuff> news:
  • ResIL library, to use for enhance tools,
apparently I had to download the source from Github and not from sourceforge. Ok.
autoreconf -i was failing because of newline characters. It needs \n newlines, can't have \r\n. \rn is interpreted as part of the text.
How is this still a problem today, really?
    Luckily, there is a solution:

    Code: Select all

    find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 dos2unix -k

After that, the autoreconf and the ./configure finish successfully.
But the next step is "make" and it fails because of not existing files.
    So no much progress.

  • Some time ago I told I told that I wasn't able to install the Debian OS on the new redeundant botcastle.
Later, the same month there was an update and the new version of the installer is working correctly.
    I successfully installed the OS.
When I find some time I will continue setting up everything. And I will have the redundancy I wanted.
But one thing is not working already.
    The power button.
It will not stop the system when I press the button.
I have read that I have to install acpid and make sure that there are correct settings in /etc/acpi.
That's what I did with the original botcastle and it helped.
    But this time it didn't.
Then I have read that actually in this version the power button is handled by Systemd so acpid is redundant,
    and I had to make a "HandlePowerKey=poweroff" in /etc/systemd/logind.conf.
    But that didn't help either.
The installation instruction page says that the official mainline kernel doesn't support all features of this system.
And I'm afraid the power button could be one of them.
It is not critical but it would bu nice to be able to turn it off by a button without the need to connect to it via ssh or serial, log in, and send a command.

I probably wouldn't have this problem (or also some other problems) if I was using a standard x86 computer as the server.
But for some reason I decided to use the Cubieboard as the server and that's the price for it.

  • Once more I got back to the problef of finding out why my Amiga 500 is having memory errors.
After 3 more afternoons I gave up, finally. I decided I'm not able to locate the problem now.
Currently there are 2 problems remaining:
    1. Sometimes it doesn't detect the full 2MB of Chip RAM, but only 1.5MB.
This is probably caused by a damaged connection of the RAS or CAS control lines.
    2. Sometimes during a memory read or write a wrong address is used.
What I managed to find out about the point 2, with the help of memory test software:
    • The problem applies only to the Chip RAM, does not apply to external Fast RAM
    • When there is a wrong address, it's always lower by 8. The bit 3 of the address is changed from 1 to 0.
For example F788 changes to F780.
    List of potential reasons:
    • Damaged A3 pin on CPU.
    • Damaged A3 signal on the motherboard
These can be ruled out because the would cause also problems for the external Fast RAM and also a lot of other problems.

    • A damage of DRA2, BDRA2 signal, or any other RAM control signal on the motherboard
I cheched all the signals with a multimeter (the schematics are available) and I found nothing.

    • Or maybe the signals are short circuited to something else?
I checked for a short circuit with pins and lines which are potential candidates and found nothing.

    • Or maybe the connection is OK most of the time but is a little broken and disconnects only for a short while?
I soldered a redundant path for the relevant signals, didn't help?

    • Or a the Fat Agnus chip (which controls the RAM) is not sitting correctly in its socket and the A3 connection is not good?
I took the chip out and checked if any of its legs, or the socket's legs are out of shape and found nothing.

    • Or the chip itself could be damaged.
To check this I would have to compare it to another one. I couldn't compare it with the chip from the other A500 I have because it's a 1MB version and it wouldn't work with this motherboard.

I don't have any more ideas any more and don't want to lose more days for it.
I ordered a new motherboard. From England. It should arrive here soon.

I searched for it in Poland first, but here I could find for sale only whole computers, and people are not describing what they are selling.
They write stuff like: "Computer tested with 2 floppy disks, works". No information about what's inside, which revision of the motherboard (I need 8A or 8A.1), no pictures from inside.

  • And the reason why I got back to the Amiga is that I want to go back to creating the video signal conversion device, this time more seriously, That's why I need a correctly working Amiga 500 in version 8A, it has the enhanced chipsed which can generate higher resolution video signal, and I want my device to support all video modes.

I can inform when there is some progress, if the OTT is interested of course.

Ok, this post took too much time to write.

Latest phys made me imagine a comedy sketch or something: someone meets someone else's pet snake, asks if the snake is poisonous, and is told nah, he's perfectly safe to eat (but don't let him bite you).

I had such high hopes for this one but right now I feel like it's just a hot mess. I wish my head would just stay clear enough for me to write properly.

Sorry I'm about 5 wips late cos I sorta missed a couple of mips of otting without any good excuse really, I've just had other stuff take up my Time.

Anywho, yesterdip I stumbled across the fun youtube phenomenon of people partaking of a hotdog entitled 'Beat Saber' which is a sort of VR rhythm game. And I found a channel with a RELATED name with a sONG I rather like posted only the dip before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFiKqxmXtQ0
Speaking of youtube I noticed a new thing went up on yappo's channel todip.

In other news I've been mucking around with a hotdog motor called Godot. Seems pretty molpish.

Oh and I've been reading (for over a yip actually) an online serial novel in which Antares is an important name, so that's RELATED too.

Hi all. BlitzGirl, mscha, ucim, imjb, people whose usernames I remember, people whose usernames I don't remember, everyone!

Was thinking about Time this week, because I was posting about it on a blog that's partly about "deindustrial SF," which is fiction about realistic futures where industrialization and technological proficiency has regressed instead of advancing to space flight, AI, alien contact, time travel and all the other usual SF stuff; and without being some apocalyptic fall like nuclear war or a zombie virus. Time is a great and Hugo-winning example of the subgenre. (It's arguably apocalyptic in the course of the story itself, but that event isn't the reason we see regressed technology compared to the present day in it.)

I went back and read most of my own posts and replies to them in the first 1300 pages of the thread, up until just after t** e**. (What do you call that? An egoblitz? Narcissiblitz?) Now I'm just a big puddle of nostalgia.

I got to read OTTifications I wrote that I have no memory of writing. I think I spend the ~4 mips (um, that's months, right? I'm going to have to use mostly English, sorry) of Time (the OTC, right? some of it's coming back) in a different mental state. Fortunately I remembered my login.

Then by coincidence on this newpage (is that right?) I see a colorization by me, that I don't remember doing, though I like how it came out.

It looks like you're all learning the physics of light. Cool. I mean, neat!

Don't mind me, just step around the puddle.
If you're lost you can look--and you will find me
Time after Time...
