I want a flip-book of this strip in the xkcd store!
Remains to be seen how thick it would be, though. ;-)

I chaged the time on my laptop and then reloaded the comic, I displayed the first image and then changed to the current.

Curl doesn't like 301 redirects, so as soon as I get wget online, I'm going to do an auto-updating GIF. Should be interesting, will update when ready
[EDIT] As of 5:57 I can no longer access the image, I think too many autopoolers might have killed randall's bandwidth...
[EDIT] I have a working updating GIF up:
Image
The only issue now is Randall's bandwidth keeping me from downloading a new image from redirects...

Anyone wondering if this has anything to do with the fact a comic lately was posted late? I just worry this goes somewhere bad...

Just ignore the random stuff at the beginning, start at the end: It waits for an event (which probably comes from Randall), then JSONs a new hash and changes the shown image.

Maybe because it wasn't there when the strip first went up?

This is easily my second favorite XKCD, right after Click-and-Drag. Where is he going? What's going on? Oh god, the suspense! Will it be worth it in the end?

The new version of the JavaScript simply adds better error handling and hides debugging unless the URL has a fragment identifier of '#verbose'. So no new clues there.
(For the curious: Throw the code at jsbeautifier.org, the important part is the last function wrapper, all the rest is simply boilerplate for HTML5 Server-Sent Events.)

Oh Randal! This is so great!

Not only do the images change, the JS does too:

I've found these so far:
http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time00.min.js
http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time01.min.js
http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time02.min.js
http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time03.min.js
http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time04.min.js
http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time05.min.js

And I fully suspect that this naming scheme continues and http://imgs.xkcd.com/static/time06.min.js will be available soon

@the hashes: has anyone tried "Correct Horse Battery Staple" as Salt or Key yet?

EDIT: Jep, The 06 version is up now, it seems to have triggered at 12:00 GMT+1 thus keeping the half-hourly change

I was just sitting, staring for the 0700 update... and I realized how horrible Randall could be if he made one of the pictures a screamer.

Please, please don't do that, Randall. Please no.

Edit: With the new one, the guy's stopped? No longer walking away? Subtle change this time.

Oh, for those who haven't noticed yet: that's the ocean on the right. Or at least some kind of water.

If you flip through all the different panels, you can see that the ground area where the characters are doesn't change, but the area on the right does wave up and down a little. Which I think means they're on a beach, and that part on the right is the water. Guy is staring into the water.

eventually, and sooner rather than later, she won't be able to come with him anymore. I guess if you have to visualize death this is a halfway uplifting approach.

The image at the top of the discussion thread is of two people sitting:

http://origin.imgs.xkcd.com/comics/time ... 420672.png

The image I currently (2013-03-25 11:13 UT) get is of one lying, the other walking away:

http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/time/426033 ... d650c6.png

The base URL http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/time/ throws a 404 in my browsers.

Further research may be required.

Okay what the hell forums my post gets blocked on the grounds that other posts have been made and I should look at those, then when I try to submit it again it gets flagged as spam

Wait, you guys are getting images? I thought the joke was that the comic never loads, it just waits forever for c.xkcd.com, which given the title "Time" seemed appropriate enough to me...but apparently there's supposed to be something similar to Umwelt. (Which may or may not have ceased to exist?)

...It took me like five minutes to get here because I couldn't remember the forum URL, it wasn't in my browser history, and uni.xkcd.com wouldn't let me do anything while the nonloading comic was loading.

My guess: this was supposed to be a slow playing movie, with a random time between reloads. The time0x.min.js's we're seeing mean Randall's debugging while we watch.

The way I saw it, I think he's dipping his toes in the water. The arm backward is for balance.

I was just about to write that he was dipping his foot. But then it turned out I had no registration here.

Anyway I think this is going to be a LOOONG one, but I hope it's not something too sad.

I mean it is obviously some sort of life change analogy...maybe it's something happy?

Please don't be sad or scary...please please please don't bite his leg off. xD

There is a javascript. It seems to trigger based on reload times.
I'm not sure how to post the link without being flagged as sapm, but the name was "time06.js" if you view source you can find the link.

Mine's currently reverted to that, having had him straighten up and then dip his toe
