Quite Interesting (? sorry if this has been mentioned before!):

Megan: Does it rain on the sea?
Cueball: I don't know.
Cueball: If it does, it seems like a waste.

This passage is a reference/paraphrase to/of Isaac Asimov's Asimov on Numbers, where he in a passage tells a story about how he as a young soldier aboard a ship, is overwhelmed by the ridiculous wastefulness of rain falling in the ocean - his fellow soldiers does not really understand why he uncontrollably burst into laughter.

They're in The Past, they have knowledge of engines of war and preparing battlements, but none about modern astronomy or meteorology.

A lot of dialogue. I forsee the Beginning of the End of Time!

Angelastic wrote:Time is a river, right? Is this a metaph[ys/or]ical discussion about time (the river) and tide (the sea going in and out) and whether there are other timestreams?

"Are there other rivers[streams]?" now has a greater heaviness.

Actually, I see it the other way. I think the dialogue is an indication that we're just starting. It isn't the quantity of dialogue, it's the content. Given just what we know now, there isn't that much that would be a satisfying conclusion. I think it's going to go on for a few more weeks.

Leader: Any idea where the river is now?
People: Still pretty far out. It's actually retreated a little this week.
Leader: I don't understand what the sea is doing.
(All observe a meditative silence)
Leader: I don't think we can build it much taller than this.
People: It's been fun, though!
(The leader makes a sipping sound)
Leader: Pfffth Pthuh! Yuck.
People: I've had worse.
Leader: Guess one of us should climb down.
People: Yeah.
Leader: The sea is rising.
People: Yeah.
Leader: Sea level rises and falls, right? It's changed before.
People: Not this fast.
Leader: The river hasn't even reached the sea yet.
People: The river is small. The sea is big.
Leader: How big?
People: I don’t know.
(Several beats of silence are observed.)
Leader: Does it Rain on the Sea?
People: I don't know; if it does it seems like a waste.
Leader: It rains in the hills where the river comes from, right?
People: Sure.
Leader: Are there other rivers?
People: I don't know.

It's not a quick end, but can't you see the end is going to be revealed to us (even if one frame at a Time), that we'll be figuring it out soon? We'll still wait even if we know how it ends as we must see it.

I see much dialogue was had in my absence. Other rivers! Hills! Rain on the sea!

The dialogue seems to suggest either a layered metaphor or two very ignorant engineers. Perhaps it's overly simplistic and explanatory as a way to clue us in, but if that's the case, our interpretations are still quite scattered. Perhaps Cueball asks about "rain" as a possible explanation for why the "sea" rises, but is thwarted by the revelation that in usual circumstances the "rain" in the "hills" is the cause of any rise in "water" level, "river" or "sea."

I, for one, am anxiously anticipating the moment when the "sea" rises above the dike and begins to flood the "sand castles".

Dude, I know your feel. I scroll with care, averting my sensitive eyes from all bw img posts, so I don't ruin my progress back to the present. I might have missed some of cmyk's funny 'shops not realizing what they were. You'll just have to endure, and educate.

Given the way the dialogue seems to show two people trying to understand the particular geographic and weather phenomena of their surrounding environment, is anyone else finding themselves reminded of The Hunger Games?

We've been so busy interpreting the dialogue that we missed Megan attaching something (a rope?) to the right higher pole, which is now hanging down.
What's up with that? Are they going to raise a flag?

Maybe they are about to raise up another plank to go up the next level above the two polls. This is what those ropes were used for in the past anyway.

Also another thing that has been missed is the water has been rising quite fast on the left side of the Nub!!!

Edit: Note that this change on the left side of the Nub can't be seen easily with the naked eye and looks like it is a change in the sub pixel grey scale level mostly.

Edit2: Yeap look at it zoomed up and animated and you can see the water flowing in slowly! So the Nub has a hole in it now.

Seems to me the conversation isn't quite over. Watching it in sequence, it seems like they're having a Calvin-and-Hobbes-esque discussion while they work, and the last exchange hardly seems final.

Could be, yes. I think that's more likely than a flag or a banner.

It has, but barely in the last few newpix.
Compared to just after the sea wall was built, 140-ish newpix ago:

The end of the original "sand castles," perhaps. After all, civilizations are typically built upon the ruins of their predecessors...
