From the fact that they don't know if their are any other rivers or not. And that water falling on the sea is a waste. It is possible that they are in fact on an island with hills and possibly only one river ( that they have found so far anyway). Are they getting all the building supplies from a wrecked boat maybe? Do they have to drink the seminatedcoffeecancerbabies because it is the only liquid they can find on the island? Are they in fact building a raised house to keep them safe from local wildlife? Just some ideas anyway.

Edit: Also maybe if you are trapped on a deserted island together with no hope of rescue and you're Cueball and Megan then first thing that comes to mind is 'Why not build some sandcastles"

It still appears to be quite random. Sometimes, there's no change to the sea level at all when the apparent Inside time per newpix is large, and sometimes there's a visible change between sentences in a dialogue.

We certainly do not. That's part of the reason I'd like to see the graph with those times highlighted. If the slope is constant during those times, then it's likely that the time is constant, and the rise. It's possible the time and rise could change just right to cancel each other out, but rather less likely.

They know each other well. They are comfortable with each other, and with silence. Perhaps there was actually a long silence between the sentences.

Megan is doing something at the bottom of the poles in the last two newpix. It doesn't look like she moved the rope. Maybe she's shoring up the foundation? Also, I'm glad Cueball decided to stand on a bucket this time to do whatever he's doing. Given his past clumsiness, balancing on the railings seems ill advised.

I've noticed that a lot of people recently are posting the wrong image link. Was there some kind of change to the structure of the comic1 (during the recent server problems maybe?) or is it just a coincidence?

On topic: I have a new (loopist) end of comic theory. Perhaps they angered Randall, so were sentenced to keep building semencaffeinecancercrudeoilhelpimtrappedinauniversefactoryraptorbacononice castles, just to have Sisyphe come rolling down with his boulder and crush them (the castles, I mean). It would explain why they sometimes seem to just know what's happening (they can hear Randall but we can't) and the unpredictable physics (if you were a god punishing people, would you give them reliable physics? :twisted: )

The interesting thing to me, is that the water level has risen above the barrier, but has not flowed around or through it. If it was sand, even if the barrier is a semi-circle or if the world really is 2 dimensional and not a 2d representation of a 3d world then the water would have flowed through it. What this means to me, is that this is proof that there are physics at play here in the Time World that are not of the 'external' world. Points of comparison may therefore be futile, but heck if i get a chance tomorrow I will see what other interpretations and graphs I can do. I love me some pointless data visualization.

Just tried that to confirm, and got the hash in Copy Image. Refreshed, and got time... Weirdeness.

Ok hypothesis: The rise in sea level is somehow proportional (or otherwise related) to the activity of the pair of them, like maybe to do with how much sand they are piling up. This would be a nice metaphor for manmade global warming or something like that, which is an idea that's been floated around. Hmm. float. hmm.

I like the man made connection. Hadn't considered that kind of thing. It will disappoint me if the non-linear rising fluid isn't connected to something. Just not sure what as yet.

I had thought the same at some point a while ago too. Still not enough evidence to say one way or another, but yeh, the idea of borrowing from one to add to the other; there'll be a tipping point of diminishing returns and/or eventual collapse back to equilibrium... or to quote Glen Phillips: "Winter Pays for Summer".

RE: sea-level physics, I'm not getting too worked up over, since the characters confirmed the tide is accelerating, even more than usual, and... yeh, it's a comic. Sometimes it's necessary to forgo realism for visual communication.
