10 years for them to come back or that we'll sit here waiting?

Well there seem to be three different servers at least in DNS... could be more, hiding behind a front-end.

Code: Select all

# nslookup imgs.xkcd.com
imgs.xkcd.com   canonical name = 2930-xkcdimgs.voxcdn.com.
Name:   2930-xkcdimgs.voxcdn.com
Address: 72.26.217.136
Name:   2930-xkcdimgs.voxcdn.com
Address: 208.122.31.17
Name:   2930-xkcdimgs.voxcdn.com
Address: 72.26.217.137

Interesting. Here I get different addresses

Code: Select all

Name:    2930-xkcdimgs.voxcdn.com
Addresses:  107.6.92.100
          107.6.88.170
          107.6.88.168
Aliases:  imgs.xkcd.com

Not sure if It's location based and we get different servers here in New Zealand.

Also congratulations Jonas79! Please don't call the baby La Petite if its a girl. Especially if your last name is Mort! No real kid deserves that!

Bog standard geographic location-based content delivery network. I got different results between here (Tucson) and my servers in Chicago; as I recall, the Chicago results were themselves in Chicago, too.

Now, I'm wondering if mini-Jonas79 is the "it" for which we've been waiting. Think we can keep this thread going for 8-ish months?

Edit: I always get mixed up whether the 'D' in 'CDN' is 'distribution' or 'delivery'. Thanks for setting me straight, mscha.

Edit:
There was no water rise under the arch back when it still existed, so the current rise behind the dam can't be groundwater. So it seems like the dam doesn't hold back the water, whereas a castle tower can. Or maybe it was the flag that held back the sea.

Indeed, sea wall 2.0 doesn't seem to stop the sea water, in contrast with not only the tower, but also sea wall 1.0, which kept the water back pretty much until it was toppled.
Anyway, total sea level rise since sea wall 2.0 was completed, 47 newpix ago:

Not much yet, but it has definitely speeded up since Megan and Cueball left the scene.
(I can confirm, by the way, that not a pixel has changed, apart from the sea level rise, since then.)

Maybe Lord Randall chose to slow down the action in the OTR so that the posting in the needle-pulled thingy would slow down so that BlitzGirl could finally catch up. Go BlitzGirl!

Sea wall 2.0 not doing well. Not only letting water through, but also crumbling. Speed of sea level rise increasing. (Or Inside time speeding up.)

It's not a big deal, methinks, as most of the girls in French-speaking countries end up being called "La Petite" for extended periods of their early lives anyway. Similar to "die Kleine" in German-speaking countries, "малката" in Bulgarian-speaking countries :P , ?????1 in English-speaking countries, and so on.
1 that's not badly-converted Unicode, I really don't know.

For us non-French speaking citizens of the world, other than the seemingly innocuous literal translation, would anyone care to explain the seemingly more subtle stigma behind "LaPetite (Mort)," as it ostensibly doesn't translate to English?

Little One is common, in English. Though somehow my (step)daughter has become known colloquially as Squiblodicus or Monkey (she climbed trees a lot as a young child) within the family.

From now on there seem to be three courses of action:

  1. The waterlevel rises slowly and swallows the castle.
  2. The castle and the whole construction will slowly give in to entropy and crumble down.
  3. M and C, or another character will appear and do something.

I know, nothing fancy as far as predictions go, but I think I covered almost all bases...

4. It is revealed that the sand is actually a giant T-1000, and after everyone is gone, it forms into a giant Robert Patrick, and goes off to kill John Connor.

Signpost: Greetings from newpage 393/406!!
I seem to now be doing the Blitzgirl journey in reverse.

Backstory:
I kind-of browsed before, here and there, and jumped in full-stride into the current (pun intended) around newpage 382. Or somewhere thereabouts, when I de-lurked. I was still visiting ultra-present in the the holy book of geekwagon at that point, so each day, after coma, there was a bit of back-page jumping to get to where I last read, plus that disconcerting knowledge of the future while I read past posts. Coincidently, I was still present when the Rest Stop Imperpetual (did I remember that name correctly?) when the I have since given up the present, and focused on soley reading the needle-pulled thingy. But alas, each coma finds me further and further behind. Where I am now (newpix 551), incidentally is right about at the last newpix I encountered at geekwagon, though I might have been one newpix later, at the second piece of dialogue. (newpix 552)

And so, I thought I would throw this lifeline (grapling hook?) out to the present, in the hopes of reeling myself back to the present. As well as, you know, documentation and potential fodder for fun and holy graphs and whatnot. Yet I fear my newpage reading rate may not be sufficient. Well, at least maybe I'll run into Blitzgirl as she races past me... Hi BlitzGirl!!!

"...You're into the Time Slip/and nothing/will ever be the same..."

Edit: And I forgot to add: I totally dreamed about you guys while I coma'd! Crazy...

I am back, once again eager to embrace the OTC and follow the edict of Waiting For It, as was decreed so many Newpixs ago...

After three days spent on a jury for gang-related attempted murder, I must say that I am very relieved to leave the Outside behind, for it is harsh and scary Out there!

I am now around twenty NewPages behind... But as BlitzGirl has shown, it is right and proper to read them all, and so I shall.

So back into the no-so-distant-Time-of-Before I go; Where there is madness, but where it is a friendly and cuddly and soothing form of madness, and I once again welcome its embrace, for it is far, far better than the harsh, cold, and violent madness of the Outside!

see, this is what's never going to be the same about the OTC after it's finished (if it ever finishes)

869-873 5 hours of emptiness. 5 hours of worrying that all that was left was entropy, watching everything we've seen in the last month come to a sad and crashing end. 5 hours of fear for Megan and Cueball on adventures unknown.

When future OTC discoverers watch that, all they'll have is a short 4 second pause where Megan and Cueball nip off for bags. The impact is lost to time.

Preview edit: r is not a vowel, Our is not a true triphthong it's a diphthong. And i don't care how many times Hour, Fire and Loir are quoted at me R IS NOT A VOWEL /linguistichighhorse
