It has jumped from RGB(14,14,14) to RGB(16,16,16) or HEX #101010. My prediction has also jumped from 1027 to 1012.

I was just going to remark on this myself, but with extra emphasis on the fact that this is the first time* it's actually incremented the value by two in one NewPix.
* I believe; it's a bit confusing to keep track with all the confusion caused by the different renderings.
P.S. I am Randall, but not that Randall.

That's actually not true. It has jumped from 02 to 04 between frames 905 and 906.

Whatever the case, I think it goes without saying the rise of the sea and the degradation of the sand castles is greatly accelerated compared with the prior 800+ frames.
But I said it anyway, because sometimes things that go without saying are worth saying.

I agree with the theory that the fade is more of a lighting change, such as the glare that might come from a sunset.
Also, here's a replacement for Angelastic, the tray now says "Snacks." rather illegibly, but it's there.

WARNING: Color space nerd-post, feel free to skip...
Chrome seems to be displaying a gamma of 1.0, or a Linear color space (as opposed to sRGB which is an odd linear/2.4 gamma mix, averaging a ~2.2 gamma correction).
sRGB is the de facto color space/gamut standard for the internet, most computer/mobile displays and in-application workspaces, although an absolute linear color space is now gaining much ground popular as working color spaces in CG animation and other graphic/animation color workflows.

Wikipedia wrote:The following illustration shows the difference between a scale with linearly-increasing encoded luminance signal (linear input) and a scale with linearly-increasing intensity (i.e., gamma-corrected) scale (linear output).
On most displays (those with gamma of about 2.2), one can observe that the linear-intensity scale has a large jump in perceived brightness between the intensity values 0.0 and 0.1, while the steps at the higher end of the scale are hardly perceptible. The linearly-encoded scale, which has a nonlinearly-increasing intensity, will show much more even steps in perceived brightness.

Not necessarily. A visible gradient presupposes that the frame is oriented West --> East (or East --> West) and that the sun must be to either side.

Yeah, either way the uniform color means it's a full frame fade of some sort. I just wanted to sneak in the Spinal Tap reference and update the progression.

Yeah, either way the uniform color means it's a full frame fade of some sort. I just wanted to sneak in the Spinal Tap reference and update the progression.
As you can see from my deliberately misleading example images:
Having the sun set from the right or left would produce noticeable gradients
Whereas if the sun were oriented perpendicular to the XY plane of the comic we might not notice any visible gradients until after it was nearly below the horizon
In all cases assume that the sun would (over the course of a sunset) be traveling down in the Y direction
Edit: oops. I forgot the important part:
