That tower is going to collapse within a NewPix or two. Unless the caffeinesemenbabycancerteamoosedroppingwatergoopystuff hardens to near concrete strength over time - there are comparatively massive stresses on that overhang now.

Long have I lurked. Since First day, and the Beginning. Only the ever growing isolation of recent l'ngpix has inspired me to seek warmth among those who know the pain of Fading.

The loos ends lead me to suspect time will not end during my next coma, or even for several longpix thereafter... the hourglass of my heart nevertheless sends a chill, as its last grain of sand were near to drop away, and it sings me a song of its sorrow.

Oh my... What happened... I was away the whole week-end... And what do I see when I come back...

And here too... But for my relief, I only missed one post of BlitzGirl (but what a post!)... I must admit that I am not as religious as she is... I do not read all Newpages... I only look for BlitzGirl's posts...

I'm afraid I'll have to coma now. :(
Hopefully Time will still be going when I wake up.

Hello all. I have been following the OTC since I noticed the page had changed. I rid myself of a circadian rhythm years ago allowing me to follow the OTC and this thread day and night without trouble. Never has anything lured me away from the outside world as much as this. Lurking through the past until my arrival in the present has been as enticing as Time itself.
I speak to you now because moments ago I came across a discrepancy between the pngs I have manually saved and the automatically saved and "frozen" pages of the OTC. I would like to share my findings but the outside will shortly drag me away. I hope you will wait for me if Time has not, sadly, ended before my return...

This fading is starting to stress me out. I think it's the visibility aspect. I just can't see it well. I have glasses, shouldn't that be good enough?!

I'll get some predictions in before they're proved wrong post-coma.
  • LaPetite will return with LePetite right before 0xFFFFFF.
    • There will be no dialogue.
  • The Fading will be to full white, no transitions to the next scene.
    • Approximately 3 frames of pure white.
      • Then, the fadein starts, with new scene (or scenario).
  • The rightmost flag will fall into the sea on the very last visible frame
    • OR, it will be rescued by the Petite Ones on that frame.

If the color predictors are right, this is going to be a tough lot of NewPages to tread through. Damn comas.

I want this to must be a phase that leads into another phase. Perhaps a 'N days later' followed by an equally slow fade back in. That would be okay.

Wow. I went out of coma, checked aubronwood, saw that it's almost white and then my RSS notification pops out saying the title of the newest comic:
IS IT WORTH THE TIME?

Randall! RANDALL! You're f*cking with us, aren't you? I mean, there's no way the title is just coincidence...

Before I checked it, I really thought the newest comic was about to end the OTC...

Edit: Also, the prediction now seems to be 968. That means just 4 newpixes until the end of Time. Or perhaps until new era of Time? I'm so excited...

Repeat to Fade by Graham Kendrick and Geoffrey Stevenson:

For you the mystery
Of life was never solved
You never made investigations
But slowly slipped into the dark

Closing your ears
Against your heart's investigations
You started out with so much time
And now you watch the digits climbing
Down to zero you're locked inside
Past episodes and endless re-runs
Like an old soap opera hero

Repeat to fade, repeat to fade
Repeat to fade, repeat to fade
Your song is dead
But you just have to play
It one more time

Was it enough for you to pass
Your time just trying to avoid the complications
Was it a trick
Trick of the light
When long ago
You saw a different destination.
Do you believe that there is
Nothing more to life than this?

Hello guys (male and female),

this is my first post on xkcd...

I was reluctant to register to this fora for quite a while (many, many longpix). But now I feel that time's running out. (Pun intended)
I have to admit that I haven't been a devotional member of the religion of the OTC, nor did I have such a strong will and endurance as BlitzGirl. I merely travelled through this needle-pulled-thingy like a stone skipping on the sea (which is big). But now I seek some encouragement and company among you, who have waited all the time.

I see that I am not the only long-time-lurker who feels that way. Probably many more will come.

If time will really end - I don't know. I sincerely hope that the voyage continues for many, many longpix more until one day my son (whose birth is scheduled for july) will wait for the next part of The Adventures of LaPetite™.

I'm guessing this is coming to the end. I've been autosnatching since newpix 004.

I wonder what number this comic will finish on.

984? = 36 full days
1000?
1008? = 37 full days
1024?
1190? = comic # for this comic
1200? = 45 full days
1208/1209? = when (comic # == newpix #) on 08/05/2013.
forever?

Oh, I totally know the original "run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!" context. But the adaptation to the current context, with the "poster . . . succumbed" part, impressed me. OK, so perhaps I'm easily amused, but then again, we are all obsessed with a True Comic that's updated merely 24 times a day in 24 NewPices, aren't we?

There were a lot of newpages to catch up with. Love the hat buffygirl, no need to change it. You have many more hats to make.

Hope there's something else coming after the Fade out and that it isn't the last era of Time...

And BlitzGirl is almost in the present :D She's closer than I was this morning and I managed to catch up, so I think we might see her join the Present today :D

ETA: Wow, BlitzGirl is only five newpages behind now

ETA2: And I forgot, thanks Kieryn for the list of posters in the OTC thread, that was really cool to see that there are more than 1000 unique posters in this thread. It's a remarkable achievement. Also thanks all graph makers, I love looking at statistics :D

The comic is a table showing, given how often an Outsider Activity occurs, and how much you will save on it, how long you can spend on trying to optimize the activity that much before it would be more efficient to not do it, but just watch the One True Comic instead.

The alt-text?

The Sea is Big. Wait for It.

Why is there no column for 24/DAY????

Also, the comic doesn't take into account that, as soon as you have automated a task, people start complaining that they want to do it by hand, and you'll have to turn if off, or at least delay it.
