I propose (if we haven't already) that newpix 968-970 be called Curtain, and 971 Begin Act II. There's such a marked change that it deserves to be divided.

WELCOME BACK HAL!!!!

Also, Helper's back! Cool!
I'll admit that I skipped rather a few pages, so has anything major occurred in-thread since the 25th of April, Outside time?

Not a lot really. BlitzGirl arrived, everyone thought the comic was going to end, and Helper came back, but other than that, it's been quite peaceful.

Um, yes. BlitzGirl arrived. And there was much rejoicing, and writing of songs, and a really brilliant parody (by BG herself) of Othercomic #442. And... and... [head a splodes]

Frame 972 marks the start of a new eon, so I think it is well-divided.

I think one of you is using geekwagon, and one The Book of Aubron. (And I still think neither accurately reflects the number of Newpix since the start of the One True Comic, which may mess us up if we're expecting something to happen on a round number.)
And Welcome, newcomers and returners. You'll get to -ONG yet, Helper.

Here Hal to help catch you up on progress here are the last two BlitzGirl Quest Progresses you missed:
Spoiler:
BlitzGirl wrote:Quest progress: 425 out of 438 pages.
The Fading. NP 924.

Some of you have wondered after me, by message, sig, and pastpost:
macraw83 wrote:We've missed you in the Great Thread of Time... your periodic signposts were full of insight from our Pasts, and it has been such a delight to monitor your constant progress. Last we heard you were only 29 pages away, getting closer!

I do hope there is nothing serious behind your sudden change in posting habits, hopefully nothing worse than a little outside busyness. Or the best case being that you are determined to catch up in Time!

But soon you will be caught up, and then there will be cake! And then it will all be worth it.
lmjb1964 wrote:Blitzgirl, where are you? We're worried about you!!

dreiarmumig wrote:
ggh wrote:Has anyone seen BlitzGirl online lately? I'm worried about her.
Me too. I hope she makes it before we reach white, but the good thing is that posting seems to be rather slow at the moment.
ggh wrote:I hope BlitzGirl is doing okay. I wonder if these pages might go a bit nuts in the next dozen newpics.
EraObserver wrote:Huh, people... Blitzgirl hasn't posted for 11 pages now. Has anyone... tried communicating with her in the past?
What if the past is eroding with the comic??? She may be disappeared with the fading! WE NEED TO SAVE HER!!!!!
Either that or she's just speed reading so she can get here before time ends, and posting would slow her down...
Here begins the tale of my silence.
Some time ago, I began to encounter dire warning sigs (and edits):
AluisioASG wrote:Run BlitzGirl, run! Time is falling apart!
Jonas79 wrote:GO BlitzGirl
Neil_Boekend wrote:Tb OyvgmTvey Tb

descor wrote:Hurry BlitzGirl, hurry Vytron

Valarya wrote:Blitzgirl:

we hope you make it...
Latent22 wrote:BlitzGirl!!! Check your hair. Make sure it's not turning slowly Grey! This seems to be happening in the future/present. Just hope you're not affected as well.
treadman wrote:Don't fade away, Blitzirl
Angelastic wrote:BlitzGirl: If you want to save our world, you must hurry. We don't know how much longer we can withstand the Fading.
EraObserver wrote:EDIT: Blitzgirl, hurry! The future is in disarray!!!

Here, take these! *Gives Blitzgirl Shoes of the High Timewalker, gives +200 to waiting*

...Don't ask how I got those.
The number and intensity of these warnings frightened me; it was clear that the thread-dwellers of the Now believed the End of Time was imminent. I was not sure if I agreed with them, but I figured the least I could do was catch up with them - then we could Wait together, whether Time ended or not. Thus, putting my new Shoes to good use, I undertook a desperate sprint for the future!

I actually sprinted so fast that I passed the remainder of my signposts written up to Now:
351 out of 391 pages
355 out of 393 pages
359 out of 397 pages
367 out of 398 pages
372 out of 401 pages
378 out of 408 pages
382 out of 409 pages
385 out of 414 pages
Many things happened to Time during my sprint. Megan made a desperate effort to rescue the rightmost Flag (and succeeded), but later seemed to turn on the Sandcastle when she Godzilla-stomped the bridge with her foot. Apparently the Sea is sentient (as well as big), and may or may not contain water along with semencoffeecancerbaconbabiesonice. Megan got more flags, and then got bags, and said a sad bye. to the Sandcastle. Then The Fading began, and that's where I have stopped to catch my breath, on newpage 425.

As for general events in the pastposts I passed, there was much talk over the create dates of Timeframes, recursive flooding, and something about a hasheep (sheep from the hashes). There were advanced encriptions that I read, but did not comprehend. I noticed a discussion of favorite words. I found my favorite in a sig, actually:
ChronosDragon wrote:? blitz (plural blitzes)
? A sudden attack, especially an air raid; usually with reference to The Blitz.
? (figuratively) A sudden effort, as a publicity blitz.
? A spontaneous, extended effort to read through the entirety of a piece of media, esp. a forum thread (See: Blitzgirl)

There was a large, flat, boring section of the thread that went something like, "blah blah blah diphthongs blah blah blah" and was easy to sprint over. There was also an XKCD thong, which needs to be a thing. Dangerous creatures I glimpsed included Lemmings attacking the Sandcastle, a rare Time-thread Troll, a planet of apes, and kindles and clowders of kittens and cats. More relevant fare included a listing of potential Outside seas that could be the semencoffeecancerbaconspambabies sea, a visitor map for the thread of Time, the Eras as suggested by descor, and the celebration of the one-month (by Outsider reckoning) tempoversary of both Time and its thread.

And now, I bring you the set of spoilers to end all spoilers in order to individually address pastposts and sigs I spotted, beginning with the dangers I was warned of and/or encountered:
Caswallon wrote:
BlitzGirl wrote:As Megan and Cueball use their bukkit-system to deliver new construction material to the Next Level of the Sandcastle, the thread of Time meanders along. More brief panic, it seems, when the fora were inaccessible (the horror!) and I also squelched through some rot13. Apparently someone tried to make me part of the Temporal Illuminati, but I believe reading it ALL lends me some kind of exempt-status when it comes to translation traps (I have no choice but to translate, after all). Plus I have the Whistle of Temporal Harmony right now, so I don't think it's technically possible to be at temporal secret-war with myself.
Haha! Little does she know, at least at the moment, that she has already joined the Temporal Illuminati (who don't exist) by accepting the title of "Red Spiders Eyes"!

Plus, the Temporal Illuminati (if they existed) are actually content to watch time go by and aren't really at war with anyone. (Plus at this point I'm sure most of the Temporal Knights are members(Although, not really because it doesn't exist(really, it doesn't(Promise)))).

Okay, perhaps the Temporal Illuminati are not as dangerous as I thought. And I realized, since I'm the Patriarch of the Western Paradox Church, that being both an honorary member of the Knights Temporal and the Temporal Illuminati should be right up my alley, anyhow.

BlitzGirl, I am deeply sorry for having caused you extra hassle in your journey.
I also want to warn you, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK BELOW:

higgs-boson wrote:Even more, linking the original image will cause a Great Paradoxon Of Time. Blitzgirl could get hurt.
We wouldn't want that, would we.
The only things that could be worse from her perspective would be another page of rot13, or a link back to the first post, creating a loop from which she could never escape.

You mean, like this?

I appreciate the warning. Here, nearly at the end of my Quest, it would be disaster to find myself back on newpage 1.

Foarm wrote:
Latent22 wrote:Yeah that is a cool idea for looping. Gets to some point and they use 'magic' or build a machine to reverse the rise of the sea. But all it does is make the comic roll out backwards to the first frame and then loop.

I don't think BlitzGirl would like that, because then she has to read this needle-pulling-thingy backwards and forwards for ever!

@BlitzGirl: when you see a time machine, you should destroy it before it is activated! Good Luck!

So far, I've destroyed every Time machine I've seen.

You are remembering that Blitzgirl has made it her Quest to read every single post? Of just the first few spoilers in your list, there were at least two or three that I didn't know.
Now, I'm an old fart, so that's not too surprising (I didn't even see Firefly until this year), but it's at least possible that Blitzgirl doesn't know some of these either.
Can we please agree, for Blitzgirl's sake, that her Quest does not obligate her to read all the spoilers?

Later, SPACKlick wrote:I'll note that in the post, I did try to pick older movies with well known twists but then again one man's well known is another man's unheard of I suppose.

Hi there Blitzgirl, I hope it all makes sense now!

Ah, but you forget the magic of editingTime travel!
And the hats make perfect sense. After all, buffygirl's signature has announced her "Pursuit of Hat Perfection" almost since the beginning of Time (or at least since Newpage 27).
ETA: ETAs, just to keep me honest.

I am reading it all, including the spoilers. Come what may! (Oh, and hatting has been around for a long, long Time. It is a natural part of the Thread, and as such, meets the OTT's standards for confusion.)

Why can't BlitzGirl read the spoiler anyway? By the Time she does, she will have seen that to which it refers already and it won't spoil anything.
Latent22 wrote:Please DO NOT Quote this post <snip>

Maybe I'm just jealous that I didn't post in the right place to take part. Oh well, I sent a message back to BlitzGirl by post editing before all y'all (did we decide that "all y'all" was the plural of "y'all"?) even invented sigcouragement.
Edit to not double post:

Sigcouragement
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sigcouragement, in a web forum or similar venue, indicates a poster's use of the signature feature of the forum to provide encouragement and support to those reading a lengthy thread after the poster has already done so. It is a portmanteau of signature and encouragement, apparently coined[original research?] by user "BlitzGirl" in a progress post[1] on the 1190: "Time"[2] thread of the user forum of the xkcd webcomic, after numerous earlier posters altered their signatures specifically to encourage her progress.

Sigcouragement may be considered a form of virtual time travel, in that it allows a poster to add information about the present to a post in the past without directly altering the post, allowing a user proceeding chronologically to apparently see into the future.

Sigcouragement may also allow a writer to alter the subtext of a past post without directly editing the text.[citation needed]

She will not fight the castle with her fist or foot. She will unleash the rain and punish us with the river. All will collapse to dust. It will be as it began. Tremble before the might of LaPetite!?

that said, I think it would be more useful to look at a Blitzpages per hour (averaged to negate comas) vs Newpage per hour as certain errors would cancel and by that I get a prediction closer to 500
(sorry Blitzgirl, Don't be down heartened, please use this skateboard I have lain here for you to ease your journey a little)

Yeah, I was thinking about putting in the dates of her posts as well and calculating progress based on that... maybe I will do that today if I have time. If you give me the formula for that fancy stat you're doing I'll throw it on the sheet :) I'm sure my analysis is far from perfect since I pretty much just made it up off the top of my head.

Umm, I take the time in days between updates and the number of pages (blitz and new) per update to find the rate of blitz/new pages per day I then average that over 3 updates (to reduce fluctuations) The latest rates are (xPages/day 1 update, 3 update, 5 update, 7 update average)

Blitz (20.5, 16.85, 18.85, 9.12)
New(20.5, 13.48, 11.45, 18.62)

Blitzrate is getting closer and closer to Newrate over time and I worry that it's asymptotic. Working with the
5 update rate discrepancy 7.4 Blitzpages per day, Time sync in 5.136 days (58.8Newpgs)
3 update rate discrepancy 3.38 Blitzpages per day, Time sync in 11.25days (128.8Newpgs)
with the 1 and 7 update rates, Blitzgirl is currently not catching Newpages.

ETA some of your Newpage numbers are different from mine, where bltizgirl has put a blitzpages/newpages and that disagrees with the current newpage, I went with current newpage rather than Blitzreported newpage.
I'm getting sick of the amount of red underlining posts on BlitztisticsTM get...time to update my dictionary.

ETA2: After Blitzupdate 203/286 the rates of both blitzpaging and newpaging level off a bit and that predicts timesync at Newpage 476 May 6th

Oh well. At least we still have our sandcastle.

I'm using the wiki, which is mainly based on explainxkcd.

I'm a follower of the Book of Aubron. I was around1 when it was first linked to, so it holds a special place in my heart.
1Hadn't started posting yet, but that was where I started reading.

Well I created the wiki, so it's natural that I use that.
I believe the Book of Aubron isn't using Frame 683 (because it was displayed at the wrong time due to a glitch in the xkcd server), which is why the numbers on it are out by one.

Explainxkcd had the same problem as the Book of Aubron for a while, until I fixed it.

I'm starting to think there should be a whole new class of era/eon: The forum era/eons.
This would be things such as the bag era, papal elections, hats, and so on. It could even have fancy graphs and stuff!
Dear Time travellers, I bring a gift from the future: A userscript for Chrome (Tampermonkey) or Firefox (Greasemonkey)
This will convert outside time to the One True Time of Newpix

Oh well, since I haven't posted one, here's another pretty obvious one: Their last name might be Baggins.
Meh.

No, no, no! Stop it! There'll be none of that!

It just takes one eensie-weensie lift of the lid, and then the bags are flying out of the belfry, and it's "What about The Bag Lebowski!" and "Oh, the movie where Tom Hanks becomes a little sack -- 'BAG'!", and then it degrades to Monty Python schtick like "Bags, bags, eggs, and bag, without so much rat in it..."

No. Not gonna have it...

May be too obvious to be a new one but...

Silence of the bags... i will show myself out

Can you spoiler posts with inner spoilers? I don't think recursive spoilering is allowed...

Maybe just a links to the original posts would suffice???

Interesting idea, but the forum eras would be less easy to define. Also, some of the periods are influenced by the forum- the What Period-Dark Period boundary and the Age of the Slow Pixel-Great Expansion boundary were defined by a change in mood on the forum.

I was at this thing. Sadly, not as part of one of the top ten teams, but we still qualified and had a heck of a good time in Washington DC. That was from the 25th-30th, Outside time.

I don't think so. We're currently in the era of chaos. I believe it started on NewPage 1...
