It does fit very well with Time. I can't remember seeing it here before, but that doesn't matter because in the OTT what once was old is new again.

Not a mashup, but a song I wrote many years ago which is perhaps apropos. It has castles, the sea, non-romantic love. It's all related.

It's too big to upload here (the smallest I could get it to was 2.2 meg) so I have to point you to where it presently lives on sonicbids.

http://www.sonicbids.com/2/EPK/?epk_id=22493#!audio

It's actually never been performed. Due to scheduling, the recording was done in tracks in my basement and assembled later. Hope you like it.

lyrics:
Spoiler:
The Fairy Princess
Written by: Jose F. Helu Jr.

Oh there was a fairy princess, she lived many years before
She was loving, kind and beautiful, a gift from heaven's door.
With her favorite prince they lived together, happy as can be
Another like her there would never be.

Refrain:
Where she stood the world looked different
To be with her you were changed
and to everyone she'd always be a friend.

Spread her happiness around her,
leave you deeply glad you found her
and the joy she brought will truly never end.

There came a page upon her when the summer days were past.
The page, he didn't know it but the magic spell was cast.
To the prince and princess drawn too strongly to deny
he would be a good friend as the years went by.

REFRAIN

The page beheld a vision that he told the princess fair:
They should build a mighty castle, one that everyone could share
to shelter those who pass this way from storm and wind and snow,
and together, hand in hand they made it so.

m - bridge 1:
The page's plans were faulty, the castle didn't stand.
The rocks and boulders fell away, the courtyard turned to sand.
The page, he fled before the tide so worse he could not do,
but he missed the prince and missed the princess too.

REFRAIN

h - bridge 2:
Far away the page was dreaming his way back one day he'd find.
Not a day went by he didn't have the princess on his mind.
Of course she must be happy, that's the way it'd always be
And when ready he set sail across the sea.

INSTRUMENTAL (as refrain)

He arrived and started asking - has anybody seen
my dearest fairy princess once upon the castle green.
But everyone who heard the question softly answered "no"
She passed away but seven years ago.

End refrain:
Where she stood the world looked different.
To be with her you were changed
and to everyone she'd always been a friend,

and the happiness around her,
left you deeply glad you found her,
and the joy she brought will truly never end.

===

In loving memory of Mari Peterson Ligocki.
May her spirit live forever in song.
Jose

The slow wheels of the Google Play store have finally turned and the new version of the OTC live wallpaper is available. For those who have downloaded it, I strongly encourage an update as the rough edges have been smoothed out (and it will help with your data usage).

Changes:

Spoiler:
v1.01 - 2013-07-03
- Dramatically reduced data network overhead.
- Improved experience for users with devices which have an auto-rotating home screen. Frame should now re-size correctly to fill the screen.
- Added default image when network connection is unavailable on start-up (Frame 2).
- Added colour bleed. Home screen is now filled vertically with white above current image and black below.
- Performance and memory usage tweaks.

Looking at the astronomy again: Venus is on screen for 28 frames (4 frames after the sun is on the horizon) It looks like maximum elongation required, so ~47°(no less than 45 degrees) that puts the sun on the far side of Libra, roughly on top of Zubenelgenubi (alpha Librae) The Celestial equator seems to pass just to the left of Corona Australius, and the sun does pass to the north of west (not sure how much yet) but "early spring" is right.

If you can't tell with a full figured woman, how can you hope to do it with a stick figure?

This is funny. I know the illusion but now my brain just refuses to see the dancer spinning counterclockwise. Well, if I look at the third image in the hint, I see counterclockwise spin, then I move to the middle one and still see it, then I move up to the large image and as long as I see legs only, I still can see the counterclockwise spin but as I look at the whole image, it immediately starts spinning clockwise and I'm no longer able to reverse the rotation. Does that mean something?

In the last few pages I've noticed a couple of us "kind-of, sort-of" questioning partying on NP1000. ("It's just another number", etc.)
Since when has this group ever turned down a reason to celebrate?????
Tell you what, here's a comprimise....
Let those who want to celebrate NP 1000 (look at all those zeroes) can have that page.
Let those who want to celebrate NP 1001 as the milenial page (hey the first page was #1, right?) can have that page.
Let those who want to celebrate NP 1024 (it's computer related) can have that page.
And those who want to party like it's 999, here you go
If you don't agree to why that page is having cake, cupcakes, beer, coffee, strong spirits, then don't post there. In other words don't be a wet blanket and try to tell "us" why you think "we're" wrong.

Well, I just passed my last blindpost, and it seems horribly out of place among all the astronomy discussions considering I wrote it prior to reaching the darkening. This post will probably be just as bad, but I've tagged a few more things to reply to and I suppose it's better to get it out sooner rather than later.

So here's a shout out to all you waiters from back on page 966.

slinches wrote:This is why I like living in a place where we don't take part in this clock-changing foolishness (it's always UTC -7:00 here). No remembering "spring back, fall forward", worrying about whether a recurring meeting will drop outside of working hours later in the year and any time based scripts I write will function without unnecessary switching logic.

Haha! I had that same experience during grad school in Indiana. They've since joined the rest of us in changing clocks, but for three summers I had to deal with this. Keep in mind that I'm from Illinois which is Central time, while Indiana is (mostly) Eastern time, but that Eastern Standard Time is the same as Central Daylight Time (UTC-5).

So during the winter we were on New York time, and all TV shows aired on the Eastern Time schedule. During the summer we were on Chicago time, and cable TV shows aired during the stated "Central" time period, but local channels (the major networks) aired during the stated "Eastern" time period. This was terribly confusing. It also meant that all major network shows were actually delayed an hour to us compared to all other states in the Eastern and Central time zones (for example, SNL is on in Chicago at 10:30 pm (CDT), and simultaneously in New York at 11:30pm (EDT), but aired for us at 11:30pm Chicago time (EST)).

taixzo wrote:Something interesting is that even though the sun set over two hours ago in-comic, the horizon is still brighter. Could this be light pollution? Might there be a far-off futuristic city back there?

I suspect it's the same thing as what made the sky darken prior to actual sunset, artistic license working within the limitation of the medium. It would not do for us to not be able to see our protagonists.

As long as I'm on such controversial topics, I vote that everything post-fading through to the darkening was one day, and they took a couple mid-day naps. All that walking is a lot of work, I'd want to nap too. Previous nights ("We've been walking for days") occurred during the time skip between sandcastle and when we rejoined our two heroes. (This also suggests all the sandcastle building took place within one day as well.)

I have this problem in my eyes that doesn't allow me to perceive 3D in real life. I see, basically, how things look in TV, I deduce distance by object size, so, I carry on fine.

What is the weird thing, though? That I can see those 3D effects in Stereograms and 3D Movies just fine! So seeing these, I see things really popping up from the screen, more so than things that are really in front of the screen!

The fake 3D looks more real than the real 3D. It's also kind of sad to see other people look like that the whole time, though, I probably have to say 3D is overrated since seeing "in 2D" (like in TV) has never been a problem.

Spoiler:

Oh, one more thing. You folks are doing a bang-up job on the detective work with the starfield. Current theories I've read are placing this some 13,000 years or so in the future, although some aspects still need to be reconciled. Since we've also been curious about geography, I wondered if we have to worry about continental drift. Sources are telling me 1-10 cm/year, so the answer is no, not enough that we'd notice.
