Sorry I haven't done any coding for a few NP

Postby Eternal Density » Wed Sep 18, 2013 2:23 am UTC

So I was mucking around on G+ and someone linked a video about Voyager reaching interstellar space in my pants so I posted a quote of the alt text of the relevant xkcd about the number of times it's left the solar system, and when I was writing in the comic number I realised that it was 1189, the final othercomic Before Time Began. Treeish!

Also I'm glad I had a ninja forgiveness left, cos I hadn't clicked in quite a while :o Fortunately before getting distracted I got "Ninja Omnipresence in my Pants"
Ahhh, 4NP until Judgement Dip in my Pants!

I recall a very old Ottercomic about this, with the text changed to something like "Number of times I've reached this comic by clicking on the <Prev button to try to view the previous Timeframe"
Sadly it's not on the Ottercomics page.

---

I was intending to go on http://xkcd-time.kieryn.com/Default/ThreadImages and fill in some gaps in the Ottercomics and OTC Manips articles (and maybe others)
But Google Chrome warns that "Google Chrome has blocked access to this page on xkcd-time.kieryn.com.
Content from john.moisttowelettemuseum.com, a known malware distributor, has been inserted into this web page. Visiting this page now is very likely to infect your computer with malware."

I presume the image hosting site for one of the image thumbnails has been taken over by a spam site. Is there a way to ignore the offending image?

Also I just got 'Blitzing: 8x Sand for 23mNP in my pants', followed (as I type this) by 'Boost Locked: Blitzing in my pants'. But you've probably already seen that.
Hmm but it says 'ONG! in my pants' directly below and there definitely hasn't been an ONG so there must be some mustard with the log. I'll look into that. I've been working on a new round of boosts :D

Also I'm thinking of making Blast Furnace togglable, but a bit more frequent when on. thoughts?

Also I just noticed I keep starting sentences with the word 'also'. Now I seem to be ending them with 'also' also.

[Also] I meant to say, it's currently not possible to get the leopard badge on my phone because the keyboard only shows up when there's something to type into. :(

Ugh, in just a few hours I now feel that my sinuses have been invaded by terrible snot inducing micromolpies. I hate it when co-workers show up to work just long enough to spread their horrible plague, then leave early because they are too sick :x

I may not make it to work in the mornip - guess I shall see how I feel. No single celled molpy is going to get the best of me! They are stealthy, but stupid. I must coma.

Hmm...the problem with that is, unless Program is implicitly called when it's passed into the function (which doesn't happen in any of the languages I know of, at least assuming Program is some kind of class representing a program and not an actual program), it'll just return true all the time. You'd need something like this:

Code: Select all

def DoesItHalt(Program):
     Program()
     return True

(Python syntax because it sort of looks like what GLR has there)

### 0.977
- A whole raft of new Boosts in the Department, available as Judgement Dip progresses to higher levels

Y'know I'm not really sure where all this Judgement Dip stuff came from. It doesn't really relate to the OTC or OTT very strongly, well apart from various Othercomics with Skynet references. Speaking of which I need to make some more related boosts.
[ETA] obviously the bots are causing flooding which is knocking down castles

There's a new Othercomic available in my pants.

Hmm...the problem with that is, unless Program is implicitly called when it's passed into the function (which doesn't happen in any of the languages I know of, at least assuming Program is some kind of class representing a program and not an actual program), it'll just return true all the time. You'd need something like this:

Code: Select all

def DoesItHalt(Program):
     Program()
     return True

(Python syntax because it sort of looks like what GLR has there)
Isn't the point that everything will come to an **d, even Time?

Well, no, not exactly. Let me explain the joke as I understand it:

The halting problem is the problem of deciding whether or not a given program expressed in a turing-complete language (can't remember if this was a requirement or not, but it makes me sound smart) will terminate in a finite amount of time. In the code he shows, a program is passed into a function that decides whether or not that program terminates. I think the joke is supposed to be that if the program never terminates, the function will never return true - but if the program does terminate, then it will. But unless the program is called when it's passed into the function, the joke doesn't work.

The joke in the alt-text, then is that he can't prove that there is something that doesn't die because those he is trying to prove it to will die before it does.

Currently on page 320 out of 1480, or 21.6%.

But this is what I came here to respond to:

The Poles. NP 424.

Rejoice for me, fellow thread denizens, for I have crossed into another new Time Period: Megan has just brought the first Pole. I know that this will bring about the great Scaffolding, but the posts I walk among still fixate upon the Sandcastle, and how the Pole will be used to shore it up. It is evidence of how the more curious among us always look to the past when considering the future, the same impulse which first sent me back to the beginning of this thread and the beginning of Time, and perhaps the same impulse that brings you to contact me from your present. But it is also an impulse that may lead to you becoming lost in the past, as I have.

Lost in the past. So lost. So very very lost.

Blitzgirl gets me. Blitzgirl is the only one who gets me.

Oh, Bad Hair Man, do not fear. In these far-flung future dips, there are many OTTers who have embarked on their own blitzing journeys, determined to get caught up in the dizzying dance of the pastposts - some have emerged on weary yet nimble feet, and some are still tangled in the temporal whirl. In Time you shall see that you and I are not alone. Our kinfolk twirl through both Past and Present now, tossed on the eddies of Time, and though our paths may seem separated from one another, we are all mingling together amid the great ballroom of this needle-pulled thing, to the twining beat of Time's tune.

True, I was trying to make excuses for GLR.
Coincidentally, I happen to be looking at this right now:

GLR seems to think that passing a function into another function will somehow achieve something in my pants.

Molpy Up.

Sandcastle Builder: It seems that sleep mode isn't the problem in my pants. It's just that websites stop once the screen shuts off in my pants. This can only be avoided by making an app to fix it in my pants (as far as I can see in my limited research). I can't write such an app and ED is busy enough in my pants. For now I simply put the phone on "wait 30 minutes before shutting screen off" mode so the game keeps running in my pants.

I've been trying to write a rexexp that puts 'in my pants' at the end of every sentence, but the bit which prevents it from going when a sentence already ends thus crashes the rexexp engine in javascript though it works fine on a site I was testing it on. Oh well. So for a moment there I thought I still had it turned on in my pants.

I got kinda distracted but I'm working on another boost, plus fixed the leopard-click issue for touchscreens.
