No, that's not me typing on a Selectric 251.

You're asking me to work on a 4-month-spanning project with thousands of unique frames and whose complexity grows over time.
I hope you do understand the gravity of that request.

I guess that would be me.

Heh. :) I wonder, will these castles be good or bad once the water rises enough? After all, LaPetite can't float millions of castles on a few dozen scaffolds, can she? Will there have to be a hasty effort to trade sand for floaty stuff?

Do you check amongst your boosts and badges as well? I didn't realize they appeared there until recently, now I see them there all the time.

Yes, that's a good idea.

People should know I would never disapprove of silliness.
And I certainly don't care what people on other threads think of us.
Not when we have such an awesomeful bunch of OTTers here!
Try and find a better thread!
See, it's not possible.

OK, time to get to work without pants.

No problem. Your post seemed out of character, but I thought maybe you got tired of seeing exactly the same joke again and again. And an acrostic is hard to see on a narrow display, because even short lines wrap around.

And I totally failed to notice ChronosDragon's penis and BlitzGirl's boob on page 1445, and I had to go back and look for them later.

Wait a minute now... You fooled me again!

yappobisquits wrote:Image Blixtflickans Byxor...

There could be another Finntroll ottification in that, of the song "Fiskarens Fiende"! But I dunno how I'd write a whole song about BlitzGirl's pants, let alone one in Swedish. :P

I'm sorry, I don't think I can write a Swedish song about BlitzGirl's pants and what they may contain, because it would be against my religion.

Let me just check ... I have to take half my age ... and add 7 ... carry the 1 ... so that would be ... but BlitzGirl is only ... No. The Standard Creepiness Rule of GLR (http://xkcd.com/314/) does not allow me to do that.

On the other hand, I was born in ... and BlitzGirl must have been born in ... let t be the time when ... solve for t ... yeah! I can sing about BlitzGirl's pants in June 2031, without being creepy!

Hm, that sounded creepier than ever. Sorry.

Instead, I give you a old traditional Swedish folk song, appropriate for the occasion. (I didn't write the text. I'm not like that, really. I just like to sing about it.)

Hade jag pengar för mina byxor, jag skulle supa dem upp i kväll,
Och svärta röven, och dansa naken, och vara livad och glad och säll.

If I could get money for my pants, I would spend it on booze tonight,
And blacken my arse, and dance naked, and be lively and happy and blessed.

Starting this post from NP1477 - a ketchup within a schizoblitz, I'll have to be careful that I don't need to blitz on multiple fronts.

SBN wrote:It's all related:

http://thedoghousediaries.com/5347

And what I especially don't need is a temptation to blitz through another comic's archive. Must resist... must... resist... must... res...

(much later) Whoooah. It really is all related!

yappobiscuits wrote:Blame Finntroll! (I dunno, perhaps their grasp of Swedish isn't 100% perfect since they are in fact Finnish as their name suggests, but sing in Swedish since it "sounds more Trollish")

I think I have figured out now why they sing in mustardy Swedish:
Spoiler:
They're trolling us.

Jag får springa, BlixtFlickan med vitssågen kommer...Å

ÅIn English: Gotta run, BlitzGirl with the punsaw is coming...

airdrik wrote:Hearsay: Heresy: Hearsay: Heresy: Hearsay: Hershey: Heresy: ...

Ya know, you've given me a treeish idea for a new kind of candy:
Spoiler:
Heresy's kisses.

...and then the thread proceeds to have a lot of fun in my pants.

mikrit wrote:Yes, I can't resist. But the text was problematic, so I have a rewritten it quite a lot. Hope you don't mind, Yappo and svenman. I give some reasons in the final paragraph.

Vitssågen III, ja.
Inspired by versions by yappobiscuits and svenman
Possibly no longer to the tune of "Trollhammaren" by Finntroll

Spoiler:
Blixtens Flicka rider snabbt i
denna enda sanna tråd.
Motorsågen bär hon stadigt.
Vitsare får ingen nåd!

VITSSÅGEN!
VITSSÅGEN!

Inga vitsar kan hon tåla.
Gycklare, ditt liv är slut!
Motorsågen börjar vråla.
Ingen hör ditt sista tjut.

VITSSÅGEN!

Mullpisarnas krigarskara
ger dig blott ett hånfullt flin.
Redundanta svarta katter
tittar på med sorgsen min.

VITSSÅGEN!
VITSSÅGEN!

Blixtens Flicka rider dädan,
fortsätter sin långa blitz.
Men ur gycklarblod och mylla
växer kanske upp en vits.

VITSSÅGEN!
VITSSÅGEN!
VITSSÅGEN!

And in English:
The Girl of the Lightning rides fast in
this one true thread.
The chainsaw she carries steadily.
Punners get no mercy!

THE PUNSAW!
THE PUNSAW!

No puns she can endure.
Jester, your life is over!
The chainsaw starts roaring.
Noone hears your last scream.

THE PUNSAW!

The warrior horde of molpies
give you just a scornful grin.
Redundant black cats
watch with sad faces.

THE PUNSAW!
THE PUNSAW!

The Girl of the Lightning rides away from there,
continuing her long blitz.
But from jester's blood and earth
will perhaps a pun grow.

THE PUNSAW!
THE PUNSAW!
THE PUNSAW!

Notes on Swedish words I used:

"Blixtflickan" (The Lightning Girl) didn't fit the rhythm, so I made it "Blixtens Flicka" (The Girl of the Lightning, or The Lightning's Girl) instead. It sounds less like a superhero, but perhaps more like a fantasy hero.

Mole is "mullvad", and a short form of procompsognathus(?) would possibly be "compis", so I translate molpy to "mullpis". And "Mullpisarnas" = "of the molpies".

"Dädan" is "away from there", but it is an old and forgotten word, except in some dialects. I like it, though.

The creative process, or why I changed so much:

*Listens to Finntroll clip*
Oh, this must be the metallic music that the youngsters talk about. That's very, what's the word, ... yes, atypical (thank you, HES).
And they sing in Swedish, I hadn't realized that.
But I can't really hear the text.
No problem, Google can find the lyrics.
Hm, Google found several slightly different versions of the lyrics.
And all versions are mustarded.
So Yappo based his Swedish text on a Swedish original that was already mustarded.
And I can't figure out the meter from the lyrics.
In fact, I can't even hear how the meter ought to be.
...
Well, ch*rp ("kv*tter"), I must guess a meter, and re-ottify Yappo's and svenman's ottifications.

Anyway, that was a strange and scary text. Perhaps it is just as well that the only people who can understand it are experienced OTTers who know some Swedish. Let's see, that's me and svenman and smolloy. Are there any Danes or Norwegians here? But maybe the Dutch will understand, too. All Dutchmen I have met could understand Swedish remarkably well.

This is absolutely baobabish! I think you should apply with Finntroll, they could obviously use a better lyricist (unless the mustard in their Swedish is actually there on purpose).

Good advice. I always find it a terrible nuisance to have balls rolling around everywhere in my pants.

Lots of action going on in my pants. BlitzGirl's neat OTC manips in my pants have already been added to the wiki but I'm now doing the same with her redundapantskitties.

Seconded. But the same goes for jjjdavidson, as far as I'm concerned.

Aand I've arrived at the present! (There's of course still my other blitzquest, on which I last had proceeded to NP1399.) Now to comply with BlitzGirl's decree from the previous NP:

"It's 106 miles to our beach, we've got a bunch of maps, a steambottle, it's day and we're carrying bags. RUN."
Apart from Forum Games, mostly active on the One True Thread.
If you need help understanding what's going on there, the xkcd Time Wiki may be useful.

Addams thanks all of us who helped. Her life is much better now.

Yep I totally remember that. Initially I was so pleased with the match up that I became convinced of the November 7th 2013 date. Then over the next day or two evidence began to build up against it. It was a classic example of a good theory being thrown out by a better one based on experimental evidence... Like Newtonian physics versus Einstein's relativity.

This was probably the most exciting time for me on the thread... Randall did an amazing job with the whole sequence... it was just the right level of information at the right pace to cause us to go completely nuts :-)

I remember thirds image well. This was quite an amazing prediction even though it wasn't intended to be. Not only did the milky way actually show up, but it was also the right part of the milkyway... and at roughly the right scale and position. Just the orientation was a little off.

November 7th is approaching -- we should get some star photos taken at the right direction and time to get a cool image match. Preferable this should be done by people at the right latitudes - In NYC I'm about spot on, so I will see if I can find someone with the right equipment.

Also today's #newslide is available of course. I was toying with leaving everyone in the dark [not a pun], but there will be only one more week of Obelisk, so if you haven't caught up or haven't seen it yet you ought to ketchup now before the finale.

Finally, I am asking for your predictions on the ending... and ideas for the next or future stories. Because it's not really OTC/OTT related you could post these here: http://forum.kieryn.com, although posting here might be fine anyway... So many forum rules have been broken here it probably doesn't matter.

Sounds like a simple solution to me. ED needs to build this into an Android app.

Assuming ED doesn't have infinite spare time at Hisx hands this would mean the awefulsome updates Hex has been pushing out would slow down, because that would mean extra work.
Here's the issue, you'll never be able to get the game to run in the background without extra graphical processing while using a browser. The app will allow it to run the javascript and not have the imagery using up extra resources.

But here's a small solution for one issue of phone users: disable zooming. I've seen it on various mobile sites. Do that and you should be able to click as fast as you want.

Actually, revisiting Stellarium... NYC is too far north. For the most similar images, somewhere close to the equator (or even a little south of it) is best. Anyone close to there? Caribbean, India, Mexico?

I just had some phenylephrine HCl myself. De-licious. Shoo, micromolpies! Begone!

I use seaish, riverish, and mustard* all the time. They sound perfectly normal to me. OTTish profanity hasn't made the switch as fully however.

On the subject of ch*rping m*stard, I don't use it Outside as much as I would like...guess I need to spend more time here. Yes, that is a good conclusion to make.

Oh, we're not doing that anymore? Bummer.

Seriously, all the movie lines were awesomefully hilarious, including this one:

Hiya, mikro2nd! Good to see you!

Yes, the DeviantArt folks have good taste. They even gave you a LLama Badge! I assume that a good thing. And yes, that is always a good conclusion to make.

OK, back to the Outside. Ch*rpin' raptors and zombies!

ETA Yay! I got the leopard badge!

Ashaman wrote:So, just a random thought about storytelling and presentation: Randall must be drawing these with a plan, he's got a vision for where the story goes and what he's going to show us next. He's sitting at his desk and tossing out dozens of frames at a time, in rapid succession, knowing exactly how the story is going to flow. There's no surprises or suspense from his perspective, and the contents of the next frame could be done in just a couple minutes if he's only updating the positions of our main characters.

But we keep running into little moments of suspense, like the leg of the tower intruding into the edge of the frame for the last bit of cliff climbing. I think it was there to deliberately tease us, not just because it happened to be on the edge of the next section of landscape. He could have shifted the dividing line between panels by one pixel and completely hidden the tower leg. Instead, he chose to show just a hint of it, and to keep it on the side of the frame for many panels, so we'd have time to notice and discuss it.

Similarly with the stars at night. He chose to give us a long, slow, mostly uneventful night. From a storytelling point of view, it might seem like a mistake. Yet it allowed him to throw in lots of little clues about context, the rotation of the stars showing latitude, the precise position of the planets and key stars hinting about a far future date. Without the analysis coming from this thread, those clues would have mostly been lost. But we were here, picking out every hint of information from every panel. And why not, since we have hours to study each panel while we wait for the next.

This comic is not just unfolding like a full speed movie played at a very slow frame rate, it's deliberately crafted to be revealed in a very slow manner, frame by frame. This thread is, in essence, an important part of the overall presentation. This is a show that is intended to include speculation, analysis, and guesswork.

Or, in other words: "Wait for it--but wait with an active mind"?

Hey - I've seen that in a Brookstone. It says it doesn't stick to anything, but that's not quite true - it sticks to your hands a bit! Not too bad though, considering how good it feels to run it through your fingers
