Thanks for all the molpish, steakish, and otherwise wowterful poetry, everyone. Even limericks!

I used to be "rmcurtis" but just switched accounts. When I signed up, I just typed in a username based on my name because I was only doing it to get the post times to show up in my time zone. I didn't think I'd actually post much.

I probably still won't post much, but I like this user profile better.

I think I need to blitz the Time after Time newpix to ketchup on what this is all about, floating plants, radiation poisoning, what the chirp?!

The Zanclean Zodiac

Image

The valley already extended beyond the reach of our imagination, yet we know there is more. So is it true, also, of the sky, of the universe. As the day comes that ᘊᕒᖊᐣᑲᕬ decides it shall reclaim the small land that it allowed to be so fruitful, so will become of the rest of the world and beyond. Yet, ᘊᕒᖊᐣᑲᕬ will continue, unrelented by the nothingness in its future.

On topic: I can recommend Bananbok (Banana Book), which only contains verses about bananas, with illustrations. Author: Lennart Hellsing, illustrator: Tommy Östmar. At least take a look at the lovely cover:

http://www.hellsingland.se/bibliografi. ... lar&id=157

I know there was also an edition with notes (music score? is that the word?) by Georg Riedel, I believe. But I can't find an interweb link to that edition.

(Edit: corrected illustrator's name.)
Hatted and wimpled by ergman.
Dubbed "First and Eldest of Ottificators" by svenman.

I just made a suitably molpish bananatar for myself, so at least some of them are self-inflicted.

I'm not quite sure... but First Mate Timborme did hear somethin' goin' on last nix, 'n these wee guys seem to have joined us in th' GALLEON. They seem to be pretty fun-lovin', parrrty-oriented molpies so been decideed to let them join me fer a wee bit. Arrrrr!

AluisioASG wrote:
What do y'll think of custom ranks? Either an userscript or userscript+database would do it.

Uh, when I say ‘rank’, I mean the titles.

Thanks for clarifying! :D Whoa, 397300 registered users, that's a lot  There must be at least 27 times as many who read xkcd regularly.
So to answer the question, yes. My current project "We Love BANA-na-Yada", was inspired by BananaMadness 2014, but I intend to make it last beyond the end of the "I love BANANÄS" period. To that end, I'm making it scan through the page the same way Newpix Converter does, and insert a title under the username, even adding a 2nd title to those who already have a (non-BANÄNA) title. And I've been taking submissions of de-yada lines for those users who don't already have a BlitzGirl-defined verse.
So that constitutes most of the actual JavaScript programming. Your idea of adding a database that contains the custom titles of the OTTers is great, and could be added at any time. The JavaScript would want to retrieve the data once, and store it locally, which I don't know how to do yet but I think we can work that out soon enough.

Actually he's looking for blocks of text containing only "I love BANANAS", which is rare.
@mrob: input boxes don't have TEXT_NODEs.

Ah, that explains it, thank you. I'm using Chrome "Inspect Element" and viewing the Properties > Node section, and every HTML element seems to say "TEXT_NODE: 3" even if it's just a "<br>", an HTML comment, a <meta> tag within the <head>, or anything.

I have a script for that, for anyone who's a GreaseMonkey type. No-Tinytext, in addition to making tinytext readable, limits nested hugetext to 200% (when the "Embiggen TinyText" checkbox is selected, which I know is a little ε, but hugetext is pretty rare).

macraw83 wrote: Boom de yada, boom de yada

Yep, you got it! Image

ETA: I just realized you put it in your post title as well, you clever dragonmolp

Ahhh, so he did, demonstrating that the post subject is a TEXT_NODE and is properly matched by the script. In the current algorithm, that inserts an extra-de-yada line and all following avatars get the verse that's one line later. In other words, @AluisioASG has "I love the newpixbot" in the subject line and "I love the wiki!" under his avatar, then "I love the whole thread" appears under @NoMouse's avatar, and so on.

BlitzGirl wrote: Oh dear, this bananafication might look pretty peculiar if you have the script installed

Nope, it's just fine. If you wrote a post where the whole post is just the three words I love BANANÄS, then it might get changed by the script. (This is wrong, and I'll explain in a later post)

ggh wrote: Maybeeee... I love the molpish vibes. Does that work?

Brilliant. And yes, I've added it.

ergman wrote: For the userscript boomdayada: i love spur of the Mome Unless that's too scrumptious.

It's plenty scrumptious for me! I've added it, and hope you don't mind I made the "i" into an uppercase "I".

ZoomanSP wrote: Thanks for the steakish script4, mrob27! As for the request, I think I prefer to be surprised every Time anew with what I love for this particular post.

You're welcome! And I'll leave your name with no pre-defined verse. For those who are using the script, there will eventually be checkboxes to select whether the verse lines are sequential, or random, or determined by the username. When they see a post by you, it'll default to random or sequential depending on that checkbox.

macraw83 wrote: ETA: YES! 3 in a row!

Wow! I like that is says it's also known as Lord Rendall - that reminds me of the times when many users were misspelling GLR's name. But wait, there's more RELATED stuff!
I clicked the '5 recordings', and got the albums in which the song is. In the first one there's also a song called One True Love. The band has another album called Time. Now, the second album containing Lord Randall also includes songs The Anniversary and Time And Tide. What kind of conspiracy is this? :D
Time. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cueball and Megan. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

That beesnake to their right must be getting dizzy from all that circling.

Also, the riverish raptor from several newpix ago is slowly skittering down a branch on the right-hand tree.

I predict that they will build a catapult and destroy the sandcastle Magic Kingdom.

Queball will inspect the rightmost tower. He'll be eaten by the velociraptor that is still hiding there. As megan inspets his mangled remains she will be attacked as well.. Thus ends Time.

Oops. It's apparently full-on Madness. (Finally.)
I'll use my test again: Russia. Ukraine. Crimea. Crimean peninsula. Republic of Crimea. Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Republic of Crimea (country) [okay, that one was apparently deleted recently]. (Wait, Russia and Ukraine aren't changing anymore? Why?) United States of America. USA. United States. US. Islamic Republic of Iran (that's an awful name really).
Coincidentally, I don't really like the Furious Doodling. I prefer the Reckoning better.

About banananananas:
I don't particularly like them (though I do love numbers and oranges, which is the starting phrase of most biographies of me I've seen). But I admit they're usually pretty tasty.
The whole title idea is pretty darn childish. I hope it isn't there by the 17th of Innocence or so (would be just really unfunny if it stayed).
Fun fact: I found out about the titles on the wiki. They're so inconspicious that I didn't notice them before, and now I cannot unsee it :(
And entirely unrelatedly... I think I recognize that bananana on mrob27's avatar - I've seen a very similar one on another forum I'm on (no, not AH.com, a different another forum):
Image
[I admit: this one probably dances better.]
...Wait, would that count under Molpish Emotions, Actions, or Miscellaneous? I don't think there's a dancing banananana smiley in either.

About the Madness again: apparently "bananas" is a filter now. And so is "banana".
[Specifically: bananas -> banananananananas, banana -> bananananananana. This even applies to all-caps BANANAS. No idea how that works with the titles, I haven't looked yet :)]
There are two films that I particularly like.
One of them is a science-fiction dramatic comedy involving a boy who accidentally travelled in time. Extremely popular when it originally came out in 1985, it retains a major cult following to this day.
The other one, of course, is Back to the Future.

I probably still won't post much, but I like this user profile better.

I think I need to blitz the Time after Time newpix to ketchup on what this is all about, floating plants, radiation poisoning, what the chirp?!

mrob27 wrote:Ah, that explains it, thank you. I'm using Chrome "Inspect Element" and viewing the Properties > Node section, and every HTML element seems to say "TEXT_NODE: 3" even if it's just a "<br>", an HTML comment, a <meta> tag within the <head>, or anything.

You can say that's a class property of Node objects, so you can do e.g. someNode.nodeType === Node.TEXT_NODE (or someNode.nodeType === someNode.TEXT_NODE, but I prefer the former myself). It's also good measure in case they change the value of TEXT_NODE[absurd].

What I meant by “input boxes don't have TEXT_NODEs” is that you're looking for nodes of type TEXT_NODEs, and when they aren't of that type, you look at their children. But input and textarea elements don't have any children; their text content is in their value property.
