I just did something heretical. I've replaced my xkcd/1190 bookmark with xkcd/1350. (I would have added it separately, but that would displace the needle-pulled-bookmark that I access with click-memory)

And that is treeish! It even has past yips. There should be an OTTish one too. ;)

I didn't have a bookmark, but I did have a pinned tab for 1190 on my browser while Time was still going.

tresoldi wrote:So, I posted part 2 of a series of analysis that I started writing last week. Part 1 is very boring and quite difficult, and in short concludes that it is hard do guess the sounds of Beanish if you treat it like an alphabet (but I still propose a monster full of vowels and glides).

Part 2 is a bit more interesting and, while my suggestion does not seem very likely, at least it is not horrendous and, more important, it confirms that the Beanish scripts could very weel be an abugida: http://beanishlang.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... sh-part-2/

(btw, "water" would be read "tebagava" )

Baobabs, we can speak Beanish! Or at least try associating sounds with Beanish glyphs. That's excellent, tresoldi, thank you!

Indeed, tresoldi's work on possible pronunciations will come in very handy if the OTVO project ever takes off again. I do still plan to take up the reins of that project myself at some point and get it going again. But don't hold your breath, there's the OTTscars to finish first...

I have one for this thread (and another for my main email). I stopped using bookmarks months ago (too difficult to find a way to organize), relying on history completion instead.

I must say that Firefox's is much better than Chrome's.

ucim wrote:What do you mean - while time was still going! That is heresy of the highest form! Time is still going, and it will continue for a thousand lifetimes! Dracomax! Where's that cauldron of chocolate??

I disagree. TIME has come and gone. We were its generation. We improved and expanded it, but that's our work. Not GLR's. If there's ever a sequel, it'll not belong to us, but to an other, new generation of Time Waiters.

Reporting in from Beacon Indigo. Apparently I'm eligible for a Welsh cuddle from Corinne! I could definitely use one. These pastpages are a bit hard to read. I'm not worried though. The OTTer spirit always wins in the end. I'm sure you are all dancing and OTTifying and merrily running from the VITSAGEN JA up on np1660. Even if you're not, we'll get back to that if we [sorry Minim]. See you soon hopefully!

Heh, oddly enough, NP1660 is where the OTTer banana first appeared. It's all RELATED. I'm sure you meant 1860, though.

Out of curiosity, does anyone computery know if it's possible to extract a full Madness list from the Madness simulator? It's treeish, but it only works in one direction, and it would be helpful to have reverse lookup.

Not without running some kind of brute force script; the javascript (did you see it?) is only for submitting the form, the actual translation is serverside.

No, but a clever girl could use the tools made available to her by other posters in other threads she posts in to mine quite a bit of the relevant data.*

And the time wiki thread is, by a partially inaccurate count, 54% of the way there. Which is surprisingly good.

EDIT: * Ha, well maybe not. I forgot that this mystery man wasn't also quoting. So the ability to compare original vs filtered is no longer available. Nevermind, I guess you'd just have to ask him if he was recording his results.

Most of the data is in fact likely already in this thread itself, between original posts and their filtered, quoted versions.

You could have placed the 1190 bookmark after your OTT bookmark. Or, rather, you still could ;)

Yes, because quotes are permanently mangled by the madness, we could go back and compare quotes to their original posts. I'd imagine the most difficult step would be to figure out how to find those matches.

There are probably other ways too, if anyone grabbed a furiously doodled copy of the OTT recently we may be able to match that back to a non-doodled version.

That's cool to know. Just to clarify, is that 54% of all the madnesses of every year or just 54% of the two years we've catalogued already?

Heh, well even if I did just give one vote to that it would hardly make a difference as the winner has... well, a lot more than one vote. So there's no point really. :P It was a dunejumpish newpage though.

No, but that was Gmal's point.

Mine was entirely more direct, if not significantly more obscure. Blitzgirl will get it.

This year. I'm not motivated enough to find the mod thread and list that phlip proved us at the conclusion of last year and compare it to the time wiki list right now. But a cursory glance suggests it was much lower last time.

EDIT: Ok, I lied. I am motivated. Just ... just be proud of this year's completeness.

The group page for FF00BF BFFs has a tantalizing message "This is an open group, members can apply to join.", but contains no further hints nor a user interface for joining.
The actual user interface for applying to join a group is in User Control Panel > Usergroups, then select the group by looking in the "Select" column, check the button next to the group in question, and click the "Submit" button at the bottom. The request goes into a queue, much like the firstpost queue.
The group will then appear higher in the list, under "PENDING MEMBERSHIPS".
"The Truly Free" can participate in the anarchistic "FaiD" area, which is unmoderated — and therefore a good place to say offensive things or get offended. "FF00BF BFFs" is @Link's group, and the most I know about it is that the mods will change your name to pink during the Madness and might also change your avatar or signature (which you'd then need to change back later, thus the advice to back up your avatars and signatures.)
"Sticks in The Mud" is for folks who cannot resist the temptation to log in regularly, but know that they should not be around when Mod Madness is happening. It's like giving your keys to the designated driver before you go out to the club.

The BANANANANA... taglines are gone now, and my script still works as designed!
I still need help with getting my Opera 12.16 and its Dragonfly console to display my console.info messages. Any help or answers to my earlier comments (@ergman and @NoMouse particularly)?

Oh yes!!! You make an mrob27 very happy, Image because mrob27 loves crazy algorithms that manipulate English text!

taixzo wrote: Something seems to be up with the script - the titles for the last four posters are:

And all its mysteries

Oh yes, thanks for reporting that. There are three "I love the whole thread"s because @Goggalor, @fhorn, and @pelrigg are all in panel 13 of the second Boom-de-yada: so I gave each of them their own line. That bumps the rest of the lines of that song down a bit. I'll fix soon :)

BlitzGirl wrote: Out of curiosity, does anyone computery know if it's possible to extract a full Madness list from the Madness simulator? It's treeish, but it only works in one direction, and it would be helpful to have reverse lookup.

I looked at that, just as @ChronosDragon reported, it's server-side.
However, as I posted before, I submitted the 10,000 top words in the Gutenberg project to the Madness (through the PM preview interface) three times during the past 2 dips. That gets the common words that you might not think of. I also tried a bunch of countries and languages (for example Lithuanian → Ardanian) but got tired of thinking of countries. And we can guess a lot of the forum-specific words that were changed, at least the ones that matter to us, like "moderator" (big broseph ting) and "OTTer" (Duck).

Fractal sandcastles! ... but there's a limit.

macraw83 wrote: Yes, because quotes are permanently mangled by the madness, we could go back and compare quotes to their original posts. I'd imagine the most difficult step would be to figure out how to find those matches.

Yes, I did that while Blitzing last yip's Madness. Each entry has a link to the OTT post containing the quote, to easily verify the accuracy of the entry, and a {*} in the right column to indicate those that changed at some point.
I'll try to get it on my website, if there is interest. (I have to redact some personal information first). But I only noted transformations that are evident from quotes within the OTT. The madness simulator would now allow us to try other words too.
if anyone grabbed a furiously doodled copy of the OTT recently we may be able to match that back to a non-doodled version.

Yes, @balthasar and I both have it, and another instance of my nopixbot, which is deliberately fetching pages on a much-delayed schedule, will get the unmaddened version in a dip or two. Trouble is, they'll both be the same, precisely because the OTT never had the Madness applied to it, except during the quoting process, and those quotes are frozen in their maddened state.

Yay! I've always thought the wordfilters were hilarious, which is why I wrote three of my own as part of the script I use to generate and check my BBcode (so I can compose posts offline).

Have I mentioned I like wordfilters?

Heh, oddly enough, NP1660 is where the OTTer banana first appeared. It's all RELATED. I'm sure you meant 1860, though.

Ha, indeed, thanks. For some unfortunate reason, I've always had trouble with most significant digits. I gloss over them and notice the last couple numbers. I usually get the minutes right but end up saying a completely random hour when someone asks me what time it is.

Where I live time is written in 24-format but usually spoken in 12-format. So 17:00 is 5pm but sometimes I think 7pm. (I don't have this problem between 20:00 and 12:59)

For the record, this list?

20%

So.. yeah, this year's 53% or whatever is an immense improvement.

Yeah, that list isn't very good. I think most people used the spreadsheet that yip, which is a little better. I'm not sure, I wasn't one of the ones doing the cataloging then (missed most of last yip's Madness).

Oh... yeah... obviously.

Did anyone happen to grab an archive of OtherThreads during the latter stages of the Furious Doodling?

If I find some Time... I might start adding those to the proper Wiki page. Though I should be schizoBlitzing.
In a comically tragic turn of events, Addams didn't die. You can help her here.

Does the basement ever end?

Good luck to all the Blitzers out there!
